Old Mr. Holmes is still rocking. I wish i could have seen the look on your face when that guy Ron said my name is Ron not sir and you said ok Mr. Ron yes sir. I was laughing so hard. Mr. Hal as always stay safe. Oh yeah love the 2-60 AC.
I love the split booms on the 750 I remember splitting the booms once to lift a undamaged car out of narrow creek we put our one ton wrecker on the other side as a counter weight then drove both wreckers away from the creek with the car hanging, I wish we would of had videos back in the early seventies !
We did some really crazy things we blew lots of tires and bent more than one frame when I started our 3/4 ton homemade boom wrecker had a 20,000 pound pto winch our 1960 F-600 Ford had a 40,000 pound winch and the 1965 White had the 600 Holmes split boom had the two factory winches plus a 40,000 pound oil field setup geared thru the transmission we often broke the one inch cable and bent the booms more than once. We were lucky we survived but we worked with what we had and God was clearly looking out for us
The old Holmes 750 is still getting the job done! Although with less cooling comfort than the other trucks. I enjoy seeing you work with the old girl Mr. Hal The only truck I like better is the Red Pete. Keep the videos coming and be safe out there till the next one!
I see the knobs on your hitch pins are gone. I love those, allowed off center hook up, then lift and bring it to your truck or block front wheel on tractor and back up. Self centering. Those saved a lot of back up pull up positioning effort. I worked on commission so I was always in a hurry for the next job. Any thing that was safe to save time, I'd do it. Trying to center an under reach at an angle would be a nightmare for me.
Nice job Mr hal safe trip back home my freind take time know will if feel sleepy pull over for brake god bless keep safe and well love u willbert ect and family love kindness sent Rob over pond in uk 🇬🇧
That video was titled Holmes 750 split boom in action from about 1 year ago if anyone is interested.? I didn't see a playlist dedicated to the gopher.? You may have to create one.?
I always enjoy your videos and especially enjoy the old school equipment like I learned on starting in 1970. God Bless you Mr Hal and your Sumter Wrecker family
Great switch out Mr. Hal. I'm like you, I want move 6 inches without the seat belt through the steering wheel. Every time we go to Kiawah Island we spend a couple of days in Charleston. It's always hot as heck. Pretty town though. Love the carrige rides. Take care and God Bless.
I was taught that any of the Holmes "slings" were always attached to the casualty so that the sling arms were at a downward angle to the casualty. Reason being that if the sling was level with or higher than the tailboard, the casualty could move forward and onto the back of the wrecker in the event of panic braking or someone striking the casualty from the rear. So I always dropped the airbags (if any) on the casualty, chain the axles , then did the hookup. Just a thought from and old man.
Great video, Mr. Hal. Great explanation of how to rig a big rig for towing. I thought you were in trouble when you found the pin had backed out but you explained why you wasn’t on that. I guess you could say it was very educational for me lol. Thanks for sharing!
Mr Hal like I've said before I love seeing the old school trucks still working I got to ride along on a Holmes 750 when I was a kid and have been hooked ever since lol which led me to a 35 year career in collision repair and driving a tow truck as well thank you for the videos keep up the good work
Perfect Mr Hal. That brings back lot's of very good memories. When I operated a 50 Ton that was all I had. 2 Winches on the boom to the tow bar and a Bull winch at the rear deck. Mine was all hydraulic no cables on the boom holding it up. My boom also was 3 stages. Thanks for the video Mr Hal. Stay safe out there...
i have several trucks with 2-60 air....works good until it starts raining. then not so much. i like the new trucks you have but there is just something about these two older trucks you have. those holmes units are just so simple and so reliable.
Mr. Hal, You could do that a lot quicker if you could learn how to jump over the back of one of those trucks. Maybe some roller skates would do the trick.
I enjoyed that , does a truck that size push you much if you have to slow it down or stop fast. I figured you ease around with it anyway. Thanks for sharing
The reason I found your channel is because I bought a 1970 Ford F600 wrecker and I was trying to find out what wrecker bed I have on it. My plans for my wrecker is off road (mudding) recoveries, I will not be a business. I think after all my research, my wrecker bed may be a holmes 600. It looks exactly like the one on this truck, but a little smaller scale. Any chance you could do a video of a walk around of this wrecker bed explaining how everything works? I even have those big steel chocks with chains on them like I see in the bed of your truck. I have never owned a wrecker and you guys obviously have great experience, so I think I could learn a lot if you did a video. If you don’t have time, I understand that too. Thanks either way and Thanks for all the videos.
Good to see the oldie still earning. I know you do it out of politeness but some people including myself prefer to be called by their name and not Sir or Mr...... . Alot of people who are 'Sirs' don't deserve the title anyway. Keep safe all.
@@SumterWrecker OK--what you can do to alleviate that problem or issue again--and I use a 750 for several years is leave the snatch b;locks in he lines all the time--but cross the two lines going back up to the boom ends. That way each boom is supported by the other side boom. It'll look like a X if you stand at the back of the truck. Just an idea.
Oh--Mr. Hzl--another suggestion about that boom pin on those Holmes units--the two 'ears' I guess that connect--one on each boom-smear a thin coat of grease on them--then also a smear of grease on the boom pin itself. Do that every couple months--it'll help keep those parts from rubbing so hard on each other going down the road.
in your opinion i will never have the need but would a Holmes 500 be capable of towing a truck like that from the rear. like i say i don't tow for public and will never tow one just wondered if it could do it
I towed many miles with a 500 on a GMC 5000, No problem with the 500 if the truck is heavy enough and long enough wheel base to handle the towed load. I did twin screw Petes, both conventional and cabovers with sleepers, no problem. Be sure to double your cable {snatch blocks} to the hitch. You'll also need a truck hitch like he has, a car sling with belts is not rated heavy enough.
@@terryharvey4811 thanks so much most of my wreckers have been home built I did have a Holmes 440 on a 1ton chassis. I don't plan on ever towing large trucks just trying to understand their limits. My truck is probably not heavy enough it's a D500 dodge 2 spd axle but only single axle though. It's for personal use .i.have only done one heavy pull and found out it will break 3/8 cable without straining at all.
