Such cutting edge design, George, and pioneering stuff on electronics. Its very hard to find your way through the maze of possibilities, and find the perfect fit. Several others have said the same thing about the smaller inverter being very handy for small jobs without the huge draw of 2K or 3K sized inverters. What a joy to see this beautiful van being built. Such artistry by Alex and yourself, and fine mechanical work by Gus. Thanks for sharing, always a joy on Sundays!
While I enjoy the finished tours, I also look forward to these quick snipics of thoughts and progress you put out. They are always educational and entertaining. Thanks George
@1:50 Screeeeeech brake! Why not a hinged right side? Options. I suspect Sam will find he'll need to get at those things, specifically the Weboost, more often that he thinks. The inside of the "panel" door could also have netting to hold things like papers, park maps, brochures. It could have hooks to hang keys, a small face level mirror, any number of clutter items depending on available depth. The more depth available and no door, the greater the wasted opportunity.
Do you think I would waste an inch of space?! 😱 Possibly, the camera angle is not accurately depicting the usable space inside that cabinet. It will be a removable panel, but not one you need to move daily.
George, years ago Family Handyman had a tip where the hose for a kitchen faucet extension was installed in a vertical 3 or 4 inch pvc tube and the hose was weighted at the end. The hose would then smoothly retract in and out of the tube and this prevented it from binding or catching on anything. Might be worth a look.
@@HumbleRoad George, you might be looking for a pull out bathtub sprayer: Patriarch 2-Handle Deck-Mount Roman Tub Faucet with Handheld Sprayer in Brushed Nickel. Another idea might be a "sink faucet hose sprayer" that has a more compact and coiled hose which takes up less space.
Nice job on the shower. Plus, it has been painfully obvious to me how many rv's are built without any or too small to be useful mirrors. Looking forward to how you finish it out. My first thought re: the bed was to replace the linear actuators but like your solution even better. A small, efficient inverter for minor loads is a great idea.
The linear actuators on the bed actually run at 29VDC. I just don't like the voltage boosters on the market now. They are all cheap Chinese and I would never risk my client's safety. So the small inverter is a great option.
Not that you don’t have enough going on, but if you added Amazon (or other) links to the parts you show, like the slam latches, you would be doing us viewers a great service and make a few bucks on the side. The small second inverter idea is a also great for changing electric bikes, which require many hours of charging at 48 volts.
Great stuff George. Diving into the 8020 now for our build. Great stuff. Super strong but complicated at times with the machining I have to pull off. Taking my time and measuring 3 times🤣
Hi George! To buy a van like YOU build from one of the many other manufacturers would probably cost $300K…but, we all know that we’d never find a van of your build type ANYWHERE other than your shop. I’d be real interested to know how much ‘your’ cost would be for a van like the one in this video. I’m constantly amazed at y’all’s beautiful [not to mention doing it the right way] and luxurious builds! Have a blessed Sunday! ~Jim~
The lockable wooden box is worth about three seconds if any miscreant has a crowbar. If he needs a safe box, it should be a proper (not Amazon) safe, that's bolted into the van superstructure. That would at least slow miscreants down.
Typically, van or RV crime is a crime of opportunity. The crowbar crowd generally peruse the sticks and bricks. And this drawer is not meant for high value items. Mostly documents.
The second alternator's sole function is to charge the house battery. It's dedicated to that single task. DC to DC chargers are tapping (and some would say overworking) the chassis alternator which also must work to charge the chassis starter battery and run the electrical appliances in the vehicle. However, if you have a high output alternator as part of the chassis set up, then there is extra power there to allow for the DC to DC chargers. For perspective, I installed two 30A DC/DC chargers for a total of 60A being pulled from the chassis alternator. The second alternator sends 280A to the house battery! No longer any need for the DC chargers.
@@HumbleRoad Huh, I never thought of using two dc-dc chargers for extra power. I’d been thinking of getting a large alternator (320 amp) and a large dc to dc, but was a little disappointed in the sizes available (a sterling 70 amp, or maybe a victron buck boost 100 amp), but two smaller ones might work ok. Just curious, do you know if it’s possible to wire 2 12v ones in “series”, to charge a 24v system? Being able to do so might open up options on what I could make a system out of.
@@HumbleRoad Ah, I was afraid of that. Thanks for the response though; it’s always inspiring watching your stuff, even if occasionally that which is inspired won’t actually work. I’ve been thinking about a second alternator, but I’d be building it on a Promaster and your (and others’) comments on problems with that approach are giving me some pause, so I’m checking out other alternatives. Still, that 200+ amps is tempting…
@@HumbleRoad Wow, too bad...a second alternator is practically a must for these massive battery systems. Without a second alternator, this van needs to run at road speeds for almost 10 hours. I guess the N62 option on the Sprinter then.
When the Ford Transits start flowing again, they have the factory dual 250 amp alternator option that is a builder must to get. I have it on my Embassy Traveler Sport with a four AGM setup. A boondocking must if you go with a Ford chassis.
So George, doesn't the Loctite on yr 80/20 fittings make it difficult to move it all around. Anyway never did get any details on when you all actually put the Loctite on the bolts ...
I use the BLUE locktite, which is removable. I have done a couple videos where I explain my 8020 design and build process, and when it is time to apply the locktite. Here's one such link: ruclips.net/video/_AhHhmyphu0/видео.html
nice show....hire your buddy's band and get original music, no "canned" youtube music for your totally original channel, in my HUMBLE opinion LOL great channel
Not canned RUclips music! Two very talented composers from England. I use several of their tunes consistently, depending on the content of the scene. Viewers become familiar with what each melody will reveal.. It's an integral part of my branding.
Can't wait to see the finished shower cubby/toilet area. That's the one I've been waiting to see in both modes. Awesome, thank you!
Alex’s woodworking is perfection!!!
Mama and baby inverter, good idea. Glad the background music is back. Have a nice Sunday.
Innovative and always great work George, Alex, and Team!
STILL one of my favorite channels to follow 🖖
Impressed as always… can’t wait to see the final on the shower. Thanks for sharing the build.

A modular and cantilevered design is possible for almost everything with that 8020.
