    What I learned from the video:
    *Esters often have a pleasant smell, meaning they are sweet or fruity.
    *They are volatile, meaning that esters can evaporate easily.
    *Uses: Used in perfumes and food flavorings.
    *Carboxylic acid + Alcohol ----------> Ester + Water (A concentrated sulfuric acid catalyst is used)
    *Moreover, when carboxylic acid and alcohol combine or react together, the carboxylic acid loses its -OH group, and the alcohol loses the hydrogen atom from the -OH group. Together, these three atoms form a water molecule (byproduct)
    Eg. Propanoic acid + Propanol ----------> Propyl Propanoate + Water (Concentrated H2SO4 is used)
    *Conclusion: Esters are another homologous series with a -COO functional group, which is called the 'ester group' or 'ester link.'

    Hi, I just wondering, since the carboxylic acid is more "acid" they will release their hydrogen from -COOH functional group. So the acid will loose the Hydrogen and the alcohol will release the -OH, isn't it?

      Hi, have you gotten any answer yet? I'm still wondering why carboxylic acid loses it's -OH and not the -H..

    • @Chuuya-Nakahara46
      @Chuuya-Nakahara46 Год назад

      @@Hassan-ow1qu (ooc)
      It’s because the -OH molecule is Hydroxide which is connected and can’t be separated by a lot of methods which is why the acid loses the -OH as a whole and not just the -H
      (Hope this helps :))
