    13 foot rod with softer action that bends all the way through the blank. Centrepin reel. When fish pulls hard you can let it go with reduced pressure. Then clamp down harder when fish not running. Here in Canada we catch trout / salmon into double digits running leaders as light as 4lbs with this set up. Would work great for your mullet!

      I had been thinking about a softer rod. I was a bit obsessed with a fast action to pick the line up quickly on the strike but like you say a softer rod will reduce the pressure. Loving the Centrepin idea. Thanks for the input

    Lovely stuff Adrian. For what it's worth I use 6lb Daiwa Sensor for pretty much all my mulleting and have done for years. Where I need a finer presentation at the hook end, such as in clear water, I use a 4lb fluoro trace - typically Drennan Flyleader which is very robust and abrasion resistant. As for a run of losing fish, it happens to me too - all I do is fish through it and hopefully come out the other side. Hooks are a matter of personal choice, mine being either Kamasan 981s, which are barbless, in size 8, or Kamasan 983s, which have a micro barb, in size 10. The 983s are extremely popular within the NMC and amongst other mulleteers I know. Tight lines mate, Pete

      Cheers Pete. I shall try the 983’s I think the large fish I am hooking are feeding in a lot of silt and their mouths are softer. I shall try a sliding float, to stop it waggling around so much in a long line and possibly working the hook loose plus the 983’s. I am starting to wonder if my road needs to be more through actioned to absorb their lunges? I love my cadence rod because it picks the line up at distance so we’ll but it may be too powerful? We can but try I guess.

    I feel your pain. I've had a run of lost fish recently and have gone through all the possibilities in my head. It could just be the fact it's mullet and the way that they feed 🤔

    • @TheConstantAngler
      @TheConstantAngler  2 года назад +1

      You are probably right but I shall keep trying different things from a softer rod to slider floats etc

      @samuelpitcher4680 2 года назад

      @@TheConstantAngler I have also considered the softer rod approach, but the venue I mainly fish is tight with snags, so I'm mindful that for my situation too soft a rod would give a bigger fish more chance of reaching a snag.

    Enjoyed that. First week back for me on the mullet. I was obsessed back in the dim and dark past in Plymouth. 35 years on and I managed my first ( of my new era lol ) at 3lb 6 today. Well pleased with myself lol. Right, my point of commenting is what landing net handle / pan are you using and are you ok to recommend it ?

      The Dart is full of fish of all sizes even with the Seals. Loads of tiny mullet.

      @mulletmanpete 2 года назад +1

      Fortunately we very very rarely get seals venturing up the Camel. Trouble is, once they cotton on to an easy food source they just keep coming back for more. We used to have terrible trouble with them on one of our winter marks where there would often be 5 or 6 at a time.
