Jon's stance on jar jar changes so quickly after unlocking him and realizing he is a wizard with a funny running animation
darth jar jar has some wizard skills
Has Jon never played a LEGO game, before? The ability to violently murder your co-op partner is an essential feature.
Yes he played Harry Potter with Claire
LEGO: Where every franchise becomes GTA.
Jon sees Jar Jar and is disappointed he can’t kill him
Also Jon, “this game is awfully mean to Jar Jar.”
Classic Jon.
A quick and merciful death was all Jar Jar or we could ever hope for. Prolonging thing just makes everyone suffer.
Jar Jar not being hurt by lightsabers is clear evidence that darth binks is confirmed by the LEGO star wars devs. of course a sith wouldn't be hurt by mere lightsabres.
Plus the not-so-subtle Yoda gesture at the end. "Always two there are". Nice one Lego!
Remember in Episode One where the trade federation, unprovoked, decided to gas the 2 jedi ambassadors and shoot them on sight? 1:58 is why.
Jon playing lego games is peak gaming. This game is not ready for his staggering intellect.
I remember when the Lego game was a diner with wandering characters and doors to walk in.
Also back in my day they didn't speak this human speech!
You can actually enable mumble mode
@@KelgorothTheFinalShape you whipper snappers and your choices! When I was about your age I had one voice line mode and that's all there was. You didn't like it then you had to go outside!.
@@KelgorothTheFinalShape It's nowhere near as good as they way they did it originally. Mumble mode in this just changes the speech, not the cutscenes themselves - they don't mime everything out and have the fun visual gags that only work when a cutscene is built solely around no dialogue - like Darth Vader telling Luke that he's his dad by pulling out a picture of pregnant Padmé and pointing at her belly then him. I'm honestly not very interested in this game (or any of the newer Lego games) because of that.
I wasn't that keen on this when I started looking at trailers, but when I started playing I really appreciated the re jigging of the story elements.
@@IncapableKakistocrat Honestly they keep the humor in a good way by using official voice lines in completely different contexts.
I'm impressed at how organically they've managed to combine the heavy use of identifiable lego bricks in the construction of the world with situations(most commonly in character animations) where the action departs from basically being stop-motion animation with lego and things that are immobile in brick renderings(like jar jar's ears/tongue) start moving around.
It definitely feels more fluid than a strict stop-motion-legos arrangement would; but doesn't make the transition feel jarring.
I love how far the game has come from its first iteration in 2005, to the "Original Trilogy game", the complete story, Episode 3/clone wars, TFA, and now the Skywalker saga. All of which added new features, parts of the story, and little tidbits of lore that made it super flavorful and fun to play through despite already knowing the story. You go from a Level selector Hub in the first one, to each level has its own hub and playable area in this new game. Really brings back memories from my childhood. In addition to new character mechanics, I remember R2D2 and C3PO being NON combat characters, You had to use them with puzzles, now you can just fight as them and really play how you want to play.
I specifically remember the Pod racing segment in the 2005 release, being REALLY hard, you had to play almost perfect and hit all the speed boots to even have a chance at the end. I remember Subulba hitting the end of his 3rd lap, halfway though my 2nd...
19:40 is GOLDEN
I, on the other hand, dislike almost every 'improvement' they've made to this game. I'm finding it a huge slog. Never felt that before with a Lego SW game. I know I'm in the minority though.
@@GedUK I get what you mean, at least the older games had the gold doors so there is something to work towards. Once you unlock the multipliers and have the level ups you need the game just becomes a collectathon in each hub area. Character missions are fun though and at least the levels have been halved in size
This would make the best matn series ever, please Jon play this through to the end
Jar jar is batman? Makes sense when you think about it. Has anyone actually seen jar jar and batman in the same room together?
Meesa da night.
Nana, nana, nana, nana, nana, nana, nana, nana, Binksman!
Explains why batman has pointy ears, it's where Jar Jar puts his eyes, also explains the white lenses from the comics to hide where human eyes would be
17:20
He wins due to a combination of:
1. He's a good engineer and very resourceful (he built 3po despite being a slave), which explains why his pod is so good, and how he adapts to all the problems he has during the race so easily.
2. He's extremely powerful in the force. Despite having no practice with his abilities, his reaction times are literally negative. Even if his pod isn't actually faster, he can drive it faster because of his force abilities when other racers would have to slow down to allow themselves to react to obstacles.
3. Some of the racers (including Sebulba) spend more time trying to sabotage other racers than they do trying to go fast, allowing Anakin to catch up.
It all makes sense now, Rebel Friend had it all planned out from the beginning, it was he who pulled Palpatine's strings to create the empire to give him a good cause to rebel against and become the hero he was destined to be
John is currently producing one banger after the other. New Vegas Randomizer, Empire TW and now this
"We humbly appoint you to the Jedi Council... Master Binks."
Surprise at Jar Jar being a wizard.
Someone is unaware he's a Sith Lord.
This is a surprise.
But a welcome one to be sure.
We couldn't have expected this outcome, but it IS intriguing.
I played a lot of Lego games when I was younger. Good to see that they've kept all the charm, but tightened up the gameplay over the years. I think I'll have to get this one
Never played them, but I heard a review of them saying they were charming and fun, but were "Can beat bosses with your eyes closed" easy. Which is going to far for me. This seems to have some actual gameplay, and still has the charm. I may give it a go.
The cut scene humour is pretty damn good
I thought Jar Jar was canonically a trained warrior, he just happens to also be a comic relief goober.
32:47 : The fact that Jar Jar entered the frame when Yoda said, that there are always two, a Master and an apprentice, is evidence for Darth Jar Jar!
Incredible thumbnail Jon
Qui Gon's voice actor is doing a fairly OK Sean Connery Impression
HUZZAH! Thank you for playing this, Jon! You are amazing!
JarJar was given the essentials tag to troll every player out there.
Fun fact: The text that pops up when Darth Maul appears transliterates to: "Red Dude With a Bad Attitude"
Finally a game where we can relax, chill and most importantly - lego ;)
It's easier and less grim than when Vera Keyes is trying to talk you into letting go; that's for sure.
Having grown up with the first few lego star wars games, it’s bizarre seeing such an expansive lego star wars game. It almost doesn’t seem real.
the LEGO games are, in my opinion, best played on an old PC using half a keyboard while a friend/sibling uses the other half. Bonus points if the keyboard is old and sticky and the letters on it are barely legible.
I have been WAITING for you to play this!!!! I'm so happy
I do miss when they didn’t have voice acting, I know this game has a no dialogue mode but it’s not quite the same as when they built from the ground up to act out the plot.
Edit: also people are way too mean to Jar Jar.
Lego games had voice acting for 10 years now, a longer time than when they didn't have voice acting. It's not gonna change.
@@dermathze700 I know that, excuse me for being nostalgic and thinking things were better BACK IN MY DAY!
@@seanmcloughlin5983 The complete saga and Lego Indiana Jones were also my first Lego games, but I still prefer voice acting.
I can't believe how many changes and upgrades this re-release brings. Bravo Lego games.
Darth Binks will get you. ♥
I’d love to see this on a livestream Jon!
Jon : Lego podraceing sounds fun
me: cries during the pod raceing
Glad Jon decided to play this
Please please continue this series! Loved your reactions!
26:30 Maul just went "Tis but a scratch"
Jon I needed this today, thank you! 😆🥰
The LEGO sense of humour is wonderful, truly.
Okay I would really like to see the rest of it, please!
Darth Binks has revealed himself
I’ve never been more happy to see something in my life
I love that scene in the Phantom Menace where our heroes arrive on Tatooine, immediately break into a random house, and murder all of its occupants. Best part of the film.
I was wondering why the voice of Qui Gon was so familiar. He's voiced by Tom Kane, the narrator of the animated Clone Wars series.
Obiwan, Anakin, Padme, Clones, Maul, Windu & Yoda are all voiced by their clone wars actors
It makes the game so much better having the recognisable voices from the characters
You don't know the power of Darth Jar Jar! Don't risk upsetting him!!!
Hearing Jon say what ho what ho what ho @12:40 like jeeves and wooster made my day
Jon's about a week early for this. Should have done it next week for May the 4th. Could have brought it back the next day even for Revenge of the Fifth.
this better be a series
Oh Jon you are scratching a very specific itch by playing this, I was dying to find out what your take on this would game was
Full series please!
Anakin won because he has superhuman reaction times
I would love for you to make a series of this.
The complete saga was my first video game back in the day
This is a real nostalga trip for me, genuinely
The ‘modern’ Lego games are phenomenal fun. When I was getting back into console gaming, my girlfriend and I played quite a few - such great memories :)
"Now we're going to be tag-teaming him!" Oh Jon, honey, no.
Get well soon Jon, glad you're being sensible and taking a livestream off to help you recover :-)
Fun fact, some of the creators of this game are also fans of Xenoblade, and managed to sneak in a reference to that game somewhere obvious.
Mesa vengeance! Mesa da night! Mesa Batman!
Palpatine being evil was the best part of the prequels, and Lego knows it
'Always two there are, a master...' points at JarJar
I hope Jon finds the infinite clone creating army by using Baby Yoda that way Jon can create his own Order 66.
Episode 1 technically did have rebels since Naboo has no real army.
Better call Maul? UACCEPTABLE!!
With the voice actors it seems to be pretty much a lot of clone wars series VA's with Qui-Gon being voiced by the person who did all the Narration at the start of the episode Tom Kane.
Please do a full play through!
Jon hitting Jar Jar binks reminds me of a mini game that came out just after this film called gun down the Gungan. where the aim of the game was to kill as many Jar Jar binks as you can.
I hope this becomes a livestream series
Mini series, mini series, min-i ser-ies, min-i ser-ies, min-i ser-ies!
imo Lego Star Wars were the best co-op games growing up outside of L4D and the Halo campaigns. I hope Claire and Jon get to play this together!
Would have been great if the friendly lightsaber throw would have been what killed Qui-gon, "Et tu, Obi?"
I demand the other 8 episodes.
I need more
Jon "Jar Jar Binks is Batman"
Me "A surprise to be sure but a welcome one'
I played episode iv and it was a LOT of fun
YES! YES! YES! YES! YESSSSS!
Oh gods, they talk. The old charade shenanigans were a large part of the comedy in the original Lego Star Wars games
Now we finally understand why Jar Jar Binks is so very socially inept: He's Bruce Wayne and also an IT specialist.
Jon: "Yes I can beat up Jar Jar!! Best game"
Jon 5 minutes later: "This game is mean to Jar Jar."
more please!
Romance the Jar Jar!
OMG I actually played the very first version of this when it came out like 10 years ago!!!! It's an amazing game glad to see you playing Jon. Love your content man you brighten may day so often with your jokes in Empire. Carry on good sir!!
That podracing scene made me wish we would get a new Podracer game.
I'm amused that Jon brought up the same thing about Qui-Gon's voice that my wife and I brought up in our video 😅
This is the closest I've gotten to wanting to experience The Rise of Skywalker.
I've seen people have a ton of fun with co-op in this game. You should make a part two with Claire or someone from podcats
"which I'm pretty sure don't exist at this point in continuity" should basically be the tagline of this game
Going to Coruscant at the beginning of Episode 2 and seeing Clones everywhere was bizarre
This game is ridiculous and weird. I like it!
Why is Jon so surprised with Jar Jar? He is only using 4% of his Sith Lord powers.
There's actually a different cutscene if you lose the race that you see before it asks you if you want to restart. The combat in the game definitely isn't difficult but the races, timed challenges and obstacle courses are. For anyone who's played the other games, as a comparison for "the amount of stuff" in the game, in LEGO Jurassic World there's roughly 200 Yellow Bricks to collect, in LEGO Skywalker Saga there's 1166. I do like how there's options on how you deal with things, there's options for stealth instead of combat in some cases. Running around as R2-D2 or BB-8 and electrocuting everything is very fun (almost as fun as being a velociraptor in LEGO Jurassic World) and the Jedi's destroy stuff with the Force skill makes up for no destruct-on-contact upgrade option. The biggest thing I found frustrating was the amount of cutscenes in the battles, things like moving from level to another are cutscenes when it could have just been the enemy running and you following.
Jon, you should do a throwback to LEGO Jurassic World when Jurassic World Dominion comes out 👀
what i do really like about this game is that they use a lot of the voice actors from the clone wars series
not even a big fan of star wars, but i have seen episodes 1, 2 and 3 on VHs, so might get this one, it looks like great fun!
Please play more!
I think I’ve still got the original ps2 games around somewhere, they where great.
PLEASE do this in a livestream Jon
This could be a good coop game for streams with Claire
Yousa not allowed to murder Jar-Jar. :D
James Arnold Taylor voices Obi-Wan in both this game and in Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Well isn't this just a lovely treat? :)
ah, I remember me and my brother playing lego star wars the complete trilogy on PS2
