Inaction on part of banks and govts so much unethical and criminal, leaving victims helpless and hopeless. Govt must bear all coasts because it is their failure to punish fraudsters. When receiving texts or phone calls from your "bank institution," I suggest not text them back or click on the link (if they send one) and if you answer the call, just hang up & call your real bank (or you can just ignore the call.

Your account details could be on the dark web if you've ever used a card. PayPal, Optus Medicare, ahm, link tolls, etc have all been hacked, and hence so have you!
I realize people are not totally up to date with these scammers, but the Banks should be more responsible for security on accounts. What safety does the elderly have.
I actually saved a person account the scammer pretended to be a phone service provider approx 3yrs ago. I phoned the bank up of the person and blocked the account so the scammers couldn't get any money out. The scammer are I think based in Australia somewhere.
Bank will only call you if you owe them money ! Police will not call you if they want to arrest you! Bank and police should start telling all their customers !
The problem banks have is if they refund money as a matter of course then everyone will be lax in their financial transactions and they'll end up losing more.
Perhaps. Or they'll tighten up their security systems so that the scammers aren't able to be nearly as convincing by knowing people's personal banking information.
Spammers/scammers really think that they are so clever. When it comes to money and valuable things, we have to place them in separate accounts, places, etc. Also, we need to have extra protection and verification if something or someone suspicious contacts us.
It is very sad for the people, I do feel sorry for them. But how is it the fault of the bank when they give out the number over the phone to a stranger? Why should the bank pay for their mistake?
As much as I sympathise with victims of scammers & I can understand how convincing scammers can be but there is one simple answer call your bank straight away & they will confirm you have not been compromised. It really that simple & if we all did that scammers would be out of business. Also not matter who I think I'm talking too I would never ever give personal information over the phone even if I thought the person I was speaking to was legit. All it takes is one simple phone call to have peace of mind
Can the customer set a limit of withdrawing ? If the limit has to be increased, the customer needs to go to bank in person with his/her ID to request the change. then at least customer can limit the loss.
When you suspect something, please report the incident to the bank and the police. Most call and social apps have block and report options for sus calls. Use them. The number of scammer calls and messages will decrease.
Banks should go after the accounts where the monies are transferred to if the banks are honest. The monies are not withdrawn by cash so go to the bank account where the funds were sent to.
I am in the U.S. so it may be different but everywhere on the bank website or when I receive the 2FA text, and when I log into my account it says “STOP!! NEVER. GiVE THIS AUTHORIZATION CODE TO ANYONE.” And, it seems there are a lot of news about this, so why does it do people seem to fall into this?
NEVER trust incoming calls or texts. Always call back using the phone number on the back of your credit card, or on your statements. Also - never give anyone your security code. As banks push us to bank online, they want no responsibility for people being scammed. This sucks.
That’s why I ALWAYS only pay with CASH !! All these sheeple that pay with their phones and cards etc are contributing to this, there’s no hope for humanity. I even got rid of internet banking, and I don’t have any bank details online.
The access code comes with a warning, saying do not give this security code to anyone including bank staff. What do these people do, give the security code over the phone to someone they think is bank staff. It's not the banks fault if you do not follow what the text says.
Put an online debit block on your main account, only leave your small transaction account unblocked. Do your transfers in branch. If you take a call from any institution claiming you need to take action, hang up and phone the institution directly.
Never been scammed. When I get a call from bank or whatever, I say I will go into their branch to talk to them directly. The calls ends there. The banks should NOT reimburse these people because people like me who will never been scammed end up paying for these people. The banks, though must keep their branches open in exchange.
Surely these banks should be reimbursing these poor people? The banks are making huge profits and obviously using cheap security. Where would the scammers have found these people’s details, if not by getting into the banks’ system, which obviously has flaws. Interesting that one of them is a smaller bank and not one of the big four, suggesting the smaller bank doesn’t use same level of expensive I.T. as larger banks. Two people who replied to my comment probably work for one of these smaller banks.
My advice to all humanity is, treat ALL emails and texts as a scam. Rather than calling the number provided by the emails and texts, go directly to the source. You will NEVER go wrong. To proceed forward in both of your lives at this point to survive, get rid of your animals. Dogs' medical treatment is very costly. After getting back on your feet, you can have animals again. Take my advice seriously. Good Luck !!!!!
How did the criminals know enough details about these people to fool them into being scammed? Are employees now being bribed or extorted in order for these criminals to access secure internal systems in banks and government organisations?
@galen__ Basically every organisation or app will be harvesting and on selling data. Not every one of those will have the same level of security to protect it. Just assume everything you put online is known to others.
Let unknown calls go to voicemail. Scammers rarely leave messages. Don't trust a bank phone call unless you have a working relationship with that specific person. Beware situations where the caller controls things. Check your account on a computer or another device. If you give up control, you are handing the scammer your keys and wallet. It's not the bank's fault if you voluntarily give away your security keys.

Telcos here can do things that they aren’t doing. It should not be possible to spoof certain numbers. Banks also are slack, they won’t do more until it’s affecting their bottom line. People on the bottom are naive but it’s unrealistic to expect most people to be hip to this stuff, and technical measures are only available to the telcos and banks, so, obviously only regulators can put pressure on them and they should
Inaction on part of banks and govts so much unethical and criminal, leaving victims helpless and hopeless. Govt must bear all coasts because it is their failure to punish fraudsters. Banks and govt levies so many charges and earn so much from accounts holders, they must bear cost of deficiency in their systems.
Yes , Life Sentances for Scammers...!
Go back to old school, we never had these head aches b4, governments and banks not doing enough to protect our information
I hope that more people start teaching themselves about financial education and putting their money/assets into separate bank accounts.
I got hacked in CBA and they did not care at all.. I was disgusted that I was basically told tough luck!
When receiving texts or phone calls from your "bank institution," I suggest not text them back or click on the link (if they send one) and if you answer the call, just hang up & call your real bank (or you can just ignore the call.
Most people with a brain would go into their bank
I don’t understand why there is no ability to trace the money and figure out where it went.
Yeah cause if you or I did it we'd have been raided by the end of the week!
They are all moved to India eventually
Because the best computer scientists do not work in the legal circuit . Presumably they can make up to 50% more if they develop sw to scam people .
I imagine it gets moved around or transferred into Bitcoin pretty quickly.
Banks should be held accountable. They know exactly where the money's going .Just watch how fast scams start to dry up.Letting scammers take hundreds of thousands of dollars from people without there authorisation is beyond negligence regardless of ANY situation or scam!Problem these days banks are becoming too automated and not enough actual staff..MAKE BANKS ACCOUNTABLE!Like they already do in some countries.
The worst part is bank is entertaining even $30 scam report but they dont entertain $50k scam report. It really happens.
HSBC would have had to reimburse you were you in the UK.
That is very unlucky.
Shame on them.
GoFundMe for these poor people and their doggo???
Was waiting for it...
That's the whole idea of going on television! Embarrassing the Bendigo bank or collecting donations. Either way, they will get their money back.
Scams happen as often here in PH. It's appalling!
Ban India from calling Australia
Will save Australian's millions of dollars.
ban stupidity.. oh wait, that doesn't suit your racist hate of foreigners.
😂😂😂
That's so true and our government is importing millions of them. They will scam and fly back anytime. They will be king there.
Simple- stop closing branches. Give vulnerable people a physical location to go to for help
"Be Strong And Keep The Faith". 👍🙏👍
I have never been scammed because I never ever ever conduct banking business over the phone. Drop by the local branch.
Your account details could be on the dark web if you've ever used a card. PayPal, Optus Medicare, ahm, link tolls, etc have all been hacked, and hence so have you!
It's not difficult to go to your bank.
@@keepingitreal618 Absolutely. If a bank doesn't have a branch and must conduct business online, don't do business with them.
Why can’t these scammers be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law
Shattered is how we feel!
You poor people 😢
Do not answer numbers you do not know.
I agree. If it is a genuine call they will leave a message.
@@joanturner530😂😂😂😂 you do realize they do leave a message which then scams you 😂😂😂are you really that thick
I realize people are not totally up to date with these scammers, but the Banks should be more responsible for security on accounts. What safety does the elderly have.
Most elderly people don't have internet banking so it should not affect them.
This is ridiculous. If Scammers get into the bank message chain they have to take some responsibility
I'm not a scammer, but I could easily get into the message chain. It's a fairly simple thing to do. You could do it with a bit of Google searching.
If Scammers get into the bank message chain our communications providers need to take some responsibility.
Unfortunately SMS is unsecured. So the bank shouldn't even be using it in the first place, as it's too easy for scammers to spoof SMS.
I don't know how ppl in 2024 are still being scammed 🙄
Exactly. These people are young, they could easily have gone in to their bank.
At least 5 scammers call a day, block them all.
Banks should be part of this. They can find better ways. Maybe return to old system. These phone applications are becoming very dangerous....
The problem banks have is if they refund money as a matter of course then everyone will be lax in their financial transactions and they'll end up losing more.
Perhaps. Or they'll tighten up their security systems so that the scammers aren't able to be nearly as convincing by knowing people's personal banking information.
If you have an iPhone. You will get scam calls. Period. Stop giving scammers your money people.
I'm glad my phone is a Samsung. It filters out 99.9 percent of scam calls.
Spammers/scammers really think that they are so clever. When it comes to money and valuable things, we have to place them in separate accounts, places, etc. Also, we need to have extra protection and verification if something or someone suspicious contacts us.
Could the scammer have any insider info 😢 feel for the couple
It is very sad for the people, I do feel sorry for them. But how is it the fault of the bank when they give out the number over the phone to a stranger? Why should the bank pay for their mistake?
Because the scammers are able to get people's personal banking information in order to sound convincing. That's the banks' fault.
I wouldn't call I would go in
Scams should always be refunded. Banks have money, it's ridiculous. Heartbreaking.
Can the customer set a limit of withdrawing ? If the limit has to be increased, the customer needs to go to bank in person with his/her ID to request the change. then at least customer can limit the loss.
The first thing that has to change is the telcos need to stop allowing fake phone numbers to be presented to the caller ID system.
Good idea. You should let the banks know. They may have missed that approach.
This sucks.
Digital id and cashless society! What a great idea
@@sonjakozman1699 it works in china social credit score.
But don't step out of line or think independently.
That’s why I ALWAYS only pay with CASH !! All these sheeple that pay with their phones and cards etc are contributing to this, there’s no hope for humanity. I even got rid of internet banking, and I don’t have any bank details online.
It’s time for banks to upgrade to Passkeys and/or Security keys, and get rid of sms for confirmation of transfers
Doesn't help if the person being scammed gives the security key to the scammer anyway.
Good point.
If you think the bank has called you, think again cos they dont call you... at all. Even when younneed them too
No give anyone your password/PIN/security code
The access code comes with a warning, saying do not give this security code to anyone including bank staff. What do these people do, give the security code over the phone to someone they think is bank staff. It's not the banks fault if you do not follow what the text says.
he seems so casual about it? If it was me I would be physically sick being scammed so badly
Going on television they will end up getting money back from bank or from donations.
But you would have gone into your bank and talked to them
Scammer will feel sorry if ever brake into my account. It’s always in minus 😂😂😂😂
Put an online debit block on your main account, only leave your small transaction account unblocked. Do your transfers in branch.
If you take a call from any institution claiming you need to take action, hang up and phone the institution directly.
Start a bank that is off line like the banks before internet.
What do we do? How do we get justice?
"You should never share the 6-digit code generated by your security token with anyone."
You shouldn’t be giving away your access code to anyone. And if you are talking to your bank they don’t need it.
go to bank when there is problem ! No phone calls no text . simple
Absolutely, it's that simple. Unfortunately people are too lazy to do that
I tell them, I will hang up and call them directly. My bank have no clue by the time I call back. I change password every 2 weeks.
After getting back on your
feet, you can have animals again. Take my advice seriously. Good Luck !!!!!
Delay transfers for 24hrs.
How did the criminals know enough details about these people to fool them into being scammed? Are employees now being bribed or extorted in order for these criminals to access secure internal systems in banks and government organisations?
all details were stolen from each cyber beach and sold. No one is safe these days. To get scammed is only matter of time.
@sylviac2520 if you have ever been online you can assume your data has been sold, simple! 😮
My thoughts exactly. Only insiders know all the loopholes to pass on.
@galen__ Basically every organisation or app will be harvesting and on selling data. Not every one of those will have the same level of security to protect it. Just assume everything you put online is known to others.
Give the dog away so you can save money. I swear people go broke behind having a worthless dog😅
Nobody will ever contact you. You contact them
They intercepted the banking and victim message thread.
We need the "bee keeper" if you know what i mean. 😉
Can we donate to these guys? Can't find a gofundme.
we don't donate to stupidity. this is a learning lesson for these numb nuts
Laugh all you want at me, but I save in Bitcoin (cold storage). I spend via my credit card and settle that fortnightly.
