As an Italian I like my flag carrier, but what has to be specified is that ITA is recovering from bankruptcy and has little to no budget, these seats are from Alitalia and are one of the reasons of the company's trouble, to test the actual experience you would have to fly on the new A350 or A220. But a thing that I'm very happy about is that ITA's crew is one of the friendliest and most well trained in the world (including pilots). In December I'm going to fly on ITA's flagships in a flight (PMO->FCO) A220 and final leg (FCO->SFO) A350, I'll update this comment when I'll finally get to try ITA's business class and not Alitalia's
@karate163 avrò esagerato con ashamed ma per il prezzo che paghi io la ritengo una delle business migliori al mondo ma le sedie dei vecchi A330 non neo le ritengo inaccettabili
Being a barista, I immediately knew they would get confused when you ask them for a latte. If they didn't clarify, you would have just been given a glass of milk lol

Too funny. Cafe Latte! The lounge looks greats! Pizza for breakfast, yum. Sorry your seat is so crummy. Nice amenities kit. Your food looked great! Oh no, stinky loo!
The jig on "latte, macchiato, caffelatte, espresso" was fantastic. You have been very unlucky to be seated in 5J which substantially an aisle seat and is very close to one of the J class galley. Only rows 2 and 4 should be chosen on this plane. Moreover, as far as I can remember, your specific seat is the crew rest seat (for pilot) for longer flights and it is not sold, f. example, on GRU or MIA routes. These 330s do not have crew bunks. Look at the curtain the runs around your seat that explains all. As you said, the hard product is quite old on A330-200, though not so old as some Asian airlines (777 Thai, f. ex). Waiting for the 330-NEO this year to see the improvements. Seems to me all your ground experience from check-in to some sort of "VIP treatment" on the lounge, to boarding process was absolutely friendly, warm and flawless. Departure was on-time, as you mention. On board, by your words: "beautiful amenity kit", "really quality food", "proactive crew". Your food review though seems a little "slim", since ITA offers 4 course menu which is considered among the best in the world (Alitalia won many times "best food onboard" awards) and you give the idea that only one course was served. Very unlucky also with your loo-review just after the previous "shitty" visitor. We will be anxiously waiting for the arrival of your country (DE) giant airline to see how things changes for the better (ironic)......
As an aircraft engineer , sporadicly working for ITA i have to say that their aircrafts are painted in the most beautiful blue i have ever seen (Azure-blue). I wish my car had this paint job...
First, a disclaimer. I am an ex-AZ manager, who ran AZ in SFO. What I can tell you is that ITA is still in transition. They are working on getting the A359 into their fleet and this aircraft will be their long haul workhorse. The shorter flights will be operated by the 332. The hard product on the 359 is competitive, but not industry leading. Combined with the soft product, it is as good as any other J class in Europe and in some ways far better. Eventually the hard product on the 332 will get swapped out… When ET put money into AZ, the product improved dramatically. When I was there, we focused on making the experience as personal as possible in both Y and J, but in J because we had a smaller cabin, we could focus more and those that flew from SFO had a consistently great experience. What I saw was a lot of that personal “Italian touch”. However, be mindful that there are three things that are sacred to Italians: Food, wine and coffee. If you understand that, you will have a fantastic time in Italy. It’s good to see that this extends to ITA. I am generally disappointed with the slow return of the full J experience, but ITA had focused on this and they get that on long haul, the soft product matters. Once they get hard product sorted, they will have a very competitive J product. LH may change that…but for now…ITA is very underrated…
I flew on board the ex Alitalia A320s and the new A220s, the hard product on the ex Alitalia planes was terrible but on the planes it was amazing, I hope that the 32Ns we’ll be good
Thanks for the video Josh, I hope you get to fly ITA on a new non ex Alitalia plane and do other review and see if there are and differences with seat layout and seat comfort.
Don’t complain. I just flew 14 hours on United. Polaris seat was great but the food was frozen tv standard at best. Don’t get me started on breakfast. Appalling. I’ve had much much better food on Qantas domestic from Kalgoorlie to Perth and I am not exaggerating. ITA food looked lovely.
That lady that checked you in, was awesome / great company attitude, friendly and helpful., pity about ITA Airways though that's gotta suck. Great flight review as always there Josh 10/10 rating👍✈
Great review Josh! I am curious to see how ITA develops in the long term as well! From what I understand, the 330s are to be replaced eventually with -neos, and they are to take deliveries of the 321neo’s with proper business class, intending to use them on flights to Africa and the Middle East. Besides, an interesting flight to review in Italy would be Silver Air - a small regional airline operating Let L410s from Milan and Florence to Elba, which is pretty unique!
Yes, ITA is due to receive some A330-900 to replace the "old" 332s, one is already being painted so it's coming! More 359s are coming, 4 or 5 iirc, already received three A320neo and there are 321neo LR in future plans!
Back in the days you had Alitalia but also ATI on national routes. It was ok or miserable, depending on the flight, routes, days, wind...just kidding. After the Alitalia crash in 1990 (Zurich on short final), things even went worse since many people felt unsafe flying Alitalia. But now, there is a new airline, newer planes, a highly motivated crew and a nation that stands behind the new product. I wish them all the best since it is now time for Italy to be a 100% back in the sky.
Lounge looked amazing as did all the staff from the check in agent to the cabin crew, unlucky seat choice though and that dated cabin didn't add to the enjoyment of the flight, but the basics are there and I hope will improve with newer and refurbished fleet.
Nice review. I love listening to the Italiano accent. Now that you have given the number one food and lounge rating to Rome, you should also rate the inflight meals and tell us which has been your best experience.
Ciao Josh! I suggest you another Italian hint! Cappuccino or caffelatte or latte macchiato should be drinked only for breakfast and never after 11 AM! Caffè macchiato is ok for every hour of the day. But NEVER drink those stuff before (or after or with) a pizza! Have a great day!
Oh my God, I remember all those flights on Alitalia planes where I had to seat 5J 😂 you’re absolutely right, that’s a very unlucky seat! And I don’t know why but every time I had to sit there, I swear it seemed also that the seat was tougher than the others… I gotta say, though, that new ITA Airways A350 planes have a GREAT BUSINESS CLASS! I’ve already flown with them almost 10 flights on A350 and I honestly tell you it is one of the most comfortable business class of the industry, I have great sleeps on those seats! And I totally agree on the crew, they usually are very friendly and pleasant crew, more enjoyable that many others. Maybe it’s also the Italian culture 😂 And about the lounge I think it’s a bit too small but I totally agree on the food, next time try pasta and desserts, they are AMAZING! In a few months they are opening a new lounge in FCO and I really can’t wait to see if they also improved the interiors! Thanks for your video, it was very enjoyable! 😛

I agree with your review 100%! I am a nostalgic Alitalia frequent flyer.......Alitalia of '70 and '80 was another category, a top notch level airline, for a certain period the best in the World! Good old times dear Josh!
The light can be turned off, but crew must know it's a separate "zone" on the computer that they use. 5J is a crew rest seat (can tell by fact there's a curtain that can go around seat). They must select that additional zone to turn it off
Alitalia used to be a very mixed affair. They had great flights once upon a time in the Med region on sleek MD 80's but then began running their domestic routes with ATR's, resulting in bumpy flights, frequent delays and a few crashes. Nowadays Ryanair has a near monopoly on all domestic and short haul routes to/from Italy, so ITA won't become a player in that sector. With this hard product I guess it will be tough to keep up in the revenue making longhaul too, except on such routes like this one where the direct competition is represented by Air India.
We flew this plane in 2016 from MXP to AUH, we had under Alitalia the best lounge experience ever and a wonderful flight with an excellent crew. Will never forget it!
We normally not getting headache with some glasses of wines, but after having a bottle of Ferrari Brut in the lounge by the Ferrari sommelier, they want to give us also some more of the bubbles and some reds. We insisted also that we had enough alcohol, but they opened a bottle of a very good Primitivo. We had that much, we could not drink any more in the Etihad lounge and on the plane again to JNB 🙂
Wow ferragamo amenity kit !!!!! That’s the nicest amenity kit I’ve seen. Idk why airlines still have curtains has a separated, it’s so freaking loud in the crew kitchen
Unfortunately ITA still has a lot of ex-Alitalia planes that just received a new livery but nothing new on the inside. Many new planes are coming, 24 only this year iirc, and in due time the 332s will be replaced by 339s and by more 359s
Happy New Year Josh, Looking forward to watch more of your 2023 airlines evaluations, survey, comments and more. Enjoyed them immensely. Few days ago I flew first-class Alaska Airlines from San Francisco to Austin, TX. The sets smells.
It is not. It's a new company ran by different people and with a different business plan, that was created in 2021 using ex-Alitalia assets that are now starting to be replaced. But I get why everyone tends to still associate it with Alitalia
Bravo Josh for becoming teetotal on board. Never worked for me on flights. Mine was dizziness. Now I don't drink at all. People think it odd but I feel better after the flight.
It’s always been Latte e Caffe for decades from the days of my great great grandfather..then Starbucks comes along takes an Italian concept and started changing things including dropping the word Caffe from Latte e Caffe.
You need to start drinking more liquids when drinking alcohol if you have headaches. As you age your body needs more liquid so your kidneys can work properly.
I think you should try the A350, which was delivered to ITA with a specific new cabin. Those A330s come straight from Alitalia. The airline is still undergoing "rebranding", as for example cabin crew are still wearing Alitalia uniforms...
Many years ago I travelled Alitalia. I asked for a meal without rice (allergy). This was translated into a Vegetarian meal, despite the fact I never asked for that and am not a veggie. This 'meal' when it arrived turned out to be 3 slim triangles of sliced cheese, and NOTHING else. Never flew them again.
All A330s with different airlines I have flown I always found seats to be very small. I think it's a Airbus A330 problem rather than being a airline problem.
Josh, next time try Seat Guru, a very useful app to see seat quality in each flight. It will avoid to be booked on the "bad seat" in Business Class. And yes..."Latte" means milk in Italian as you mention.
Josh I just love your videos! I feel you're part of a large family and I am in it. ❤ I live my dreams through your life in the world. Thank you for all that you do. It's got to be hard and extremely exhausting. But the rewards are forever happiness. You rock!!!
I would fly transatlantic to Europe with Alitalia often (economy), and honestly it was a better experience then Lufthansa. Food was better, and more legroom. Perhaps the entertainment system was a bit more dated, but selection was equal. Best part - tickets were cheaper!
Great video as usual. I traveled with ITA last year MIA to FCO and I also traveled in the A330-200 with the ITA livery. The plane was really dated inside and everything was Alitalia. The service from the crew was awful.
Italy is very proud of its food. Justifiably! I have never had as good of Italian food in the USA, even in restaurants, as I have had on the old Italia airplane food.
@12:20 I disagree that an employee of any establishment should be "insisting" that you drink if you already said no. Many people don't drink for many reasons and a "no" is a full statement.
How are you not scared? ive seen many of your videos, and i always wonder how do you do ? im so scared of planes, flying... i hate turbulences and feel like crying the whole time, its exhausting.. so please, if anyone can give me advices or anything, i take it...
Thanks for yet another frank review Josh. Here's hoping ITA fare better then AlItalia which was one of the most poorly run airlines I've ever flown on!
sorry about the winej-induced headaches. you might try napoxium sodium (sp?) i find it very effective. also, i have mentioned this before, dear josh, you can do better on your food reviews. i do not think i am the only one who is interested, e.g. the cold plate. what was on it. terrific about the lounge. i gather they have a separate one for first class?? that seems wasteful to me, but then i am pretty grounded these days, in more ways than one. hugz.
Everywhere you read reviews about hotels, restaurants and airlines “ never again!” But I can say that after a serie of multiple hick ups of familiy members and myself, I have never used Alitalia again. And neither my victimized family. Long haul , intra Italy or European. When I do a flight search and this ITA thing pops up, I don’t even look at the details. Too much had happened.
It doesn’t look that bad for me though. As long as the seats are clean and working. What i hate is when the seats looks like its gonna fly out in space🤣 Its true that there are a lot of old airplanes and its not easy gor them to make new ones specially we had pandemic for almost 3 yrs. They had no flights. And i think its not the same as price of etihad or oman right?i am not italian but I really love to see crews of airlines and the business lounge crews too are really super friendly and accommodating. I will really appreciate them and they actually make the travel comfortable. And having a superb food on plane is a +++ sometimes if the plane is small then we can’t expect big seats like throne of swiss airways of any arabian big airlines. But yeah i will be visiting italy too so i will think if i will pay business class from ita airline. Im a foodie and good service good food it will really make my day happy😂
Hon...domestic carriers need to step up their game in lounge access. Domestic flights are going to be a mainstay and if the lounges dont start recognize that it is gonna be a problem.
Great video, I am sure the new A350 is a joy to ride.👍 You reminded me of my visit to Milan a few years ago, I asked for a coffee with milk omg then the great debate began, Italy loves their coffee and you need to know your stuff or expect a lesson! 🤣
Love my Costa's cafe latte... Italians are very friendly people, I had the privilege of many friends from Sicilly, Genoa, Bologna and Milan very nice people.
Seems they need to upgrade the interior of their old planes to match their new ones. Also, Alitalia apparently had a reputation of loosing people's bags, so hopefully ITA Airways doesn't have that issue.

Great review. And your sense of humour was in great form.
Note to self: don’t watch Josh’s loo reviews while eating.
Now in SMELLYVISION!
“Latte” is the direct translation for “Milk” in Italian. That was prob the reason for the confusion. :)
As an Italian, I felt the pain when you asked for the latte!
Great review Josh. Like your balanced reviews. The staff in the lounge at Rome came across very well
Happy New Year Josh,
Looking forward to watch more of your 2023 airlines evaluations, survey, comments and more. Enjoyed them immensely.
Few days ago I flew first-class Alaska Airlines from San Francisco to Austin, TX. The sets smells.
Can't argue with their livery though, one of the best (if not the best) liveries on the planet imo.
As always, great review Josh. I was not aware that ITA was the former Alitalia❤️✈️
It isn't exactly. ITA took over the routes and the hardware of the former Alitalia but it's a new company.
The MilleMiglia programme was not part of the restructuring though.
It is not. It's a new company ran by different people and with a different business plan, that was created in 2021 using ex-Alitalia assets that are now starting to be replaced. But I get why everyone tends to still associate it with Alitalia
Italian food served in Italy tastes amazing ! I have never had bad food in Italy
I would have said café au lait but Italians don’t like French too much. So it was appropriate a latte.
You need to start drinking more liquids when drinking alcohol if you have headaches. As you age your body needs more liquid so your kidneys can work properly.
Hi i have question did you ever fly with ČSA or Smartwings? If yes, how was it?
Hey Josh normally Lufthansa should purchase 40% first and than go 100% later if the Airline works. ITA should get into the LH Group.
Thank you for this honest review Josh.
Josh, next time try Seat Guru, a very useful app to see seat quality in each flight. It will avoid to be booked on the "bad seat" in Business Class. And yes..."Latte" means milk in Italian as you mention.
Moving to the US? Not the best of times.... but I hope that you come to the Republic of Panama and review COPA Airlines.
wtf US is 100000 times better than Panama if it wasnt south and central americans wouldnt rush in to the US even illegally
That is so funny when you said "whoever was last in here took a massive SHIT. Hahahahahahahaa. I have been laughing for 10 minutes.
Great video as usual. I traveled with ITA last year MIA to FCO and I also traveled in the A330-200 with the ITA livery. The plane was really dated inside and everything was Alitalia. The service from the crew was awful.
Yes the lounge food is for us still the best we ever had!
Instant subscriber! Loving these.
We should also appreciate one of the few airports (Leonardo) where for the security check we do not have to unpack anything!
They charge $140 for a normal size checked bag to go from NYC to Rome!
Hey man! Love the aviation videos!
Another great video. Keep them coming mate, 👍
Don't care much for the ITA livery but the lounge service and cabin crew seem first rate!
Josh great reviews ! is the ITA lounge food better then Emirates?
sorry about the winej-induced headaches. you might try napoxium sodium (sp?) i find it very effective. also, i have mentioned this before, dear josh, you can do better on your food reviews. i do not think i am the only one who is interested, e.g. the cold plate. what was on it. terrific about the lounge. i gather they have a separate one for first class?? that seems wasteful to me, but then i am pretty grounded these days, in more ways than one. hugz.
That seat also looks like a crew rest seat or non revenue passenger seat, with the curtain that can be pulled around the seat
Josh I love your channel! You and Jeb Brooks are my favorite reviewers. Is it possible you could do a review of ANA first class?
Enjoying this as usual. Still a bit puzzled, heard you say new plans/new role so are you giving up youtube?
They'll have to change names again LMAO !
Can you do Air Arabia review (from Sharjah to Amman)
did you get a headache after the wine ? great review as always
Great vid as always!
I do miss the previous livery ! nice video as always
dont have telegram thanks though love your vids
Nice review as always. 💕
The experience is so close to reality that they get upset if you don't order correct food or coffee...
The ground staff seemed great
Everywhere you read reviews about hotels, restaurants and airlines “ never again!”
But I can say that after a serie of multiple hick ups of familiy members and myself, I have never used Alitalia again. And neither my victimized family.
Long haul , intra Italy or European.
When I do a flight search and this ITA thing pops up, I don’t even look at the details. Too much had happened.
Same here for me: longhaul and booze doesn’t work out anymore for me
I've been to that lounge. The guys are amazing. Obviously all Italian food is great. You don't joke with food in Italy.
Im a foodie and good service good food it will really make my day happy😂
your vids are really very entertaining 🤩🤩 keep it up
It would be great if you could review the plain economy class as well.
So, that curtain track on the ceiling seems to hint that it could be a crew rest seat...
Some ITA Airways planes I think are still in the Alitalia livery still so they are basically still recovering from Alitalias fall
Italians are the best with food and culture.
Love my Costa's cafe latte... Italians are very friendly people, I had the privilege of many friends from Sicilly, Genoa, Bologna and Milan very nice people.
Good to try that and point on problems. Good trip 👌
I flew AIitalia once via Rome to Buenos Aires and it was just fine. No specific memories
Seems they need to upgrade the interior of their old planes to match their new ones. Also, Alitalia apparently had a reputation of loosing people's bags, so hopefully ITA Airways doesn't have that issue.
