As a both _P:GR_ player (I also play _GI_ btw), I can say that _HI3_ is very close to _P:GR_ and allows me to adapt easily.
I'd say it's any new player who'd be confused, not just Genshin players. Honkai just drops you into the story with little background for the characters.
Those are not skin, they are "Battlesuits".
-Each character has multiple Battlesuits;
-Each Battlesuit has different Type, Ability and Fighting style;
-Some Battlesuits have different Skins which are only change of looks (event reward/purchase);
-Some Battlesuits have an augmented version that has different power;
-Some Battlesuits have shared ability, so you don't need to spend the same resource twice.

Correct. If you're asking "why?", probably because with this concept, the story is able to be expanded with relatively less characters while having fresh gameplay as if having new characters. This way, you won't have too many characters that becomes irrelevant to the story and be able to get to know each characters deeply and follow alongside them in this journey.

The "Skins" are like the characters on different arcs of their lives and each having different abilities like Yamabuki armor which has the ability to shield valks.

Yamabuki Armor was my favorite.
Back before they nerfed her, you could do nonstop infinite laser.
Having that early game was so fun.

Pleaaaseeee, definitely upload more. Finish the entirety of part 1 of honkai's story even 👹 there's nothing more that i love than seeing new players play honkai, especially genshin players, and have them experience everything this masterpiece has to offer.
Nice that you pointed out Mei looking like Ei. Yeah, miHoYo did that on purpose because the Honkaiverse is FILLED with reincarnations and alt-universe versions of the same character.
Also it's important to understand that a single character can have multiple battlesuits with their own unique skills and movesets. They can be used within the same loadout as the other battlesuits, so it feels like she's changing her suit in the middle of battle every time you switch.

Yup, Mihoyo likes reusing their designs as much as they can. Kiana is from their first game, _Fly Me 2 The Moon_ . She and Mei were also in their subsequent successful game, _Honkai Gakuen 2_ or _GunGirl Z_ . Then, of course, they're here, so it's easy to see how the Sustainer would be an expy of Herrscher of the Void (who is a good starting Physical DPS artillery unit), Raiden Ei is an expy of Raiden Mei, and Yae Miko of Yae Sakura (or just Sakura). As you'd see from the PVs (version trailers), Keqing was also in the _Genshin_ crossover. Sadly, she was event-exclusive. But Fischl stayed.
One of the nice things about _HI3_ is you can unlock a lot of the best Support units from the shops using in-game materials and currencies. Getting HoV and Swallowtail Phantasm in the Starter stuff also provides a nice boost to your teams. They changed the Starter Banner in kind of an unfortunate way, since Herrscher of Sentience used to be on it, and she's still the best Physical Support. Good news is that Palatinus Equinox Durandal is a top-tier Physical DPS, and HoH Elysia is a top-tier Ice DPS. But you do need the same elemental support types for their teams. You can get Griseo and Starlit Astrologist to support Durandal, and Li Sushang or Haxxor Bunny and Pardofelis to support Ellie. Fischl is still great Lightning Support beside Eden, and for Fire you can use Chrono Navi. Sadly, Fire's been somewhat neglected for Supports that aren't gacha-only. There _is_ a new entry, but she's multi-role, fitting everywhere but on a Physical team. Sadly, HoTr Bronya is gacha-only. And the battlesuits start to come alive when you get them at least their best weapons.
Fortunately, the Expansion and Focus Supplies, for battlesuits and their gear respectively, give better guarantees than _Genshin_ Limited banners do. But you'll more than likely end up with some copies, and they're not as helpful as they are in _Genshin_ . On the other hand, the only RNG other than the pulls themselves is on the stigma (artifact) affixes. Everything else is fairly predictable. And you'll only feel the need to gacha if you're competitive in the endgame content. The game will start to give you Trial versions of battlesuits pretty early into the story.
If you want to try battlesuits to see how they handle, you can look for their Tutorials, either under each individual character's file in the roster, or under Trials. Most of the older suits don't have tutorials, but all the later ones do.

funny thing with battlesuits, each has their OWN outfits each so you will be drowning of outfits if you play every event every patch, I got a lot, like 149, according to hoyolab anyway

Honkai imapct 3 is the most wholesome game ever, Himeko staying alive for the whole storyline and no character is sad in this game🥰
Little info: Even if it seems like a new skin, every character 'card' that you see there have different types, different elements and different attack types. The only things that stays the same is the weapon class each character uses. For example Bronya always has cannon as her weapon type but each character card of her will change how she uses the weapon and of course what I mentioned before. You will notice the differences more with story related newer characters.

y'know, I think this is my favorite reaction to the beginning of this game so far, considering I was just about saying similar things about it picking it up (and quickly putting it down) right after global launch.
In case you don't know, you can enable 120 fps in Ai-chan phone settings. I just discovered this after over 2 years🤡
Yamabuki is a very solid early game valk. You can farm her fragments in expeditions(recommended) and eventually start getting something call "Kometa cores" which allow you to upgrade her beyond that. Imo, very solid early investment character. I still use her in raids sometimes at level 80 lol

Expansion supply is where you pull for characters, dorm supply is like standard banner from genshin only pull on there if you have dorm supply cards, sometimes there are elf supply it dosent matter until you're lvl 50 but its not recommended to pull either was, adv supply and expansion supply are where your crystals should be going mostly expansion supply because adv supply dosent carry your pity onto the next banner when it goes but expansion will so keep spending your Crystal's there, you and also get characters from the asterite shop the ones you should be getting are 500 asterite each shard,dont sell any of your materials yo get asterite since there are MANY ways to get more and use your asterite for Eden, Pardofelis especially pardofelis to get her to SSS rank! ! ! My family (mom and sis) argued and it affected me emotionally. When playing the Chapter 9 and/or 10, it worsen my condition to the point I want to cry, head felt dizzy, and chest hurt. While my physics recovered in an hour or less, my emotion was still down until the next day.

Pro tip: DO NOT PULL ON DORM SUPPLY. That is the standard banner in the game. Pull on STARTER SUPPLY instead since it is ONLY available to new players
I will be honest, this game fixed my dodging skills. When I got Zhongli I relied on him all the time and was destroyed in abyss without him. This gameplay style betters your Genshin one. The difference is very clear.
Unless youre on mobile and get used to honkais decently arranged buttons. Somethimes I go back to Genshin for jokes, and the buttons feel so terribly put on the interface. Genshins controls in general feel very sloppy. (Srry for rant, I went to play Genshin as a joke today and I hate its UI but never see anyone comment on it)
Well, the first few chapter does too hilarious. We admit it does feel hard to get interested with those character at first because they all still unmature in the story.
But if you patiently playing until it reach the phase where the story become more detail that you can even compare it too Visual Novel. Believe and you will not regret it.

Edit: Haha, another RUclipsr being confused about Honkai's character system. Well, you didn't get a skin. Skin is much more difficult to acquire. And Yamabuki Armor Bronya is a good pull because she provides you off-field shield.
Edit 2: To be honest, I don't have much grudge against The Unknown Goddess in Genshin because the most we've seen her doing is just kidnapping Traveller and their sibling... we don't know for sure if the Sibling's fall to the Abyss is the work of Unknown Goddess or it was the Sibling's own doing. But the "Unknown Goddess" you see here in Honkai is someone you'd be get real pissed off at. You'll see why soon enough.
