Not just that, the gameplay is somewhat simular to the plot of the horror short, where the boy uses his camera to see in the dark while following the killer who is willing to "fix" his broken camera.

My one big problem with "it's actually a Real person with a Real threat" twists is that things that look definitively supernatural are then left unexplained and kinda arbitrary. Why did Jimmy see a spooky shadowy figure atop of his closet if it's a man luring him in? How did the guy in The Closing Shift survived that brick to the noggin and kept going? Most creepypastas and short stories with that twist have this issue as well, where the antagonist is omnipresent and omniscient yet the story is supposed to be actually happening in real world.
Yeah I hear that. In this case maybe Maria was real and knew about the murderer nearby. Like she can't directly hurt Jimmy but she can lead him into danger.
For the Closing Shift specifically, people have survived worse injuries. It's more a matter of blind luck than anything else. Sometimes a blow like that will kill someone instantly. Sometimes they have nothing more than a bad bruise on their head. There are so many factors in play that can't be truly controlled like the exact point of contact on the skull, the exact point of contact for the brick, the exact angle the person's head was pointed, the exact rotation of the brick as it fell, any pre-existing conditions or injuries, etc...

I think the game wardens like U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service would be a good agency for these sorts of stories. They're the guys who spend all their time in the woods.
Two things that would improve your future games are 1) go lighter on the filters. There's so much noise and shake added that it makes it annoying and difficult to read and explore and you can make it clear the audience is looking at a VHS without a bunch of filters. 2) Use spelling and grammar check. You wouldn't expect the FBI to misspell the word "bureau" in official documentation so little things like that can take the player out of the moment. Bonus suggestion: misappropriating the wendigo as a horror game character is considered disrespectful to the Anishnaabe people so if your goal isn't to do that you could always use a different name for your antlered monster or even invent a new monster that is unique to your story. I think you did a great job with the atmosphere and the moment where the narrator states the subject is about to be attacked and then you prompt the player to run is very fun and scary.
It was an interesting game that seemed to be pretty well done. My suggestions would be in giving the player more time to read some of those captions (Manly missed a few, and I only saw a few when I rewound and paused the video), and having someone double-check spelling before release (unless the typos were actually intentional to show that, perhaps, it was not actually produced by the fbi).
first game just made me remember "The Kid and the camera". heck I even thought they'll use the "sleep fairy" when the guardian angel starts speaking haha. and ye, the immediate jump on the end is kinda fast. wish there was more build up by hearing a footstep noise or something.

Being an avid state park camper, I can confirm that late night trips to the bathroom building are dangerous. Mothman, bigfoot, wendigo, all kinds of monsters are attracted to the smell of a human desperately trying to make it to the toilet before it's too late.
Especially if he "doesn't believe in all that kind of thing", and is the sort of person who can see it and "still doesn't know for sure what he witnessed, buuuuut..."
I realize this defeats the point of the game, but I don't care who or what wakes me up in the middle of the night and tells me to come play outside, I'm not going. My own parents could've told me that, and I'd be like "Nah, you're some sort of fae creature that wishes to eat me."
Seriously. "Little Jimmy" had the self-preservation of a panda with a lobotomy. Even at 4 or 5 years old you couldn't have convinced me to go out alone into the woods at night following a scary voice even if it promised me a lifetime supply of every candy known to man.
The first game is a really go example of how hard it is to make a idea really work and how copying ideas doesn't always work. The original short it is "based" off pretty much perfectly sets everything up and builds to its payoff. But even little things like putting the "friend" in a place it wouldn't make sense for a person to reach really undermines the whole thing and the amount of grain just makes my head hurt and doesn't even make sense.
@@AC-jt8wq Well Little Jimmy's Gift takes a lot of inspiration from that Short Film. At first it looks like a simple quaint 3D kids cartoon about a kid playing with a camera. I totally loved both games. (and your voice is super calming) Yes, i feel like they could really go wayyyy bigger with the camera game, cus the video that its "loosely" based off of was extremely creepy. Thanks for the video!!!
They smack little Jimmy and his camera into the woods pretty abruptly. And his camera is pretty crappy. Little Jimmy's natural eyesight is also a VHS filter. The investgators in the second game wanted to go home early and marked a lot of stuff as irrelevant. The sound is pretty good. The crickets, the deer and the monsters popping up around you.
The first game looked pretty realistic at points, especially the pics Manly took pointed at the ground. It’s probably because the heavy filters masked some of the detail, but still, I’ve seen plenty of those VHS style horror games that didn’t look nearly as convincing.
"Weird stuff can sometimes go down in these campgrounds though." Reminds me of the one Disney employee that got arrested in Polk County for trying to reach his hand into a deputy's pants on one of the public boat ramps.
The first game kinda has the problem of that one backrooms game where referring to a character as "little [stereotypical kid name trope]" ruins the horror for me
Um, awkchually, Wendigos are not equipped with antlers according to the lore, it's more similar in apearance to an SCP called shyguy, a good example of true wendigos are the Until Dawn wendigos.
I always found it funny when something like the second game happens and the govenment decides to keep it a secret to prevent panic. Like if it was in the US and they jsut put a bounty on them, the problem would be solved in like a week.

😂Ha! "Loading skip"..I like that, Manly. It feels like the "other half" and I were experiencing more than our fair share of 'loading skips' in real time last week.
gotta disagree with manly on the feeling of isolation in woods at night. I feel isolated in cities and crowds but i feel alive at home and connected to all things in the woods especially at night. Tho i do understand that I am the exception and notthe rule in this regard at least in modern times.
i think this was based on the very real story of this killer who took this girl, chopped her hair off, abused her constantly and took pictures of her. there are pics out there of her last moments when he has a knife while taking pics of her. its a real thing that happened, i dont remember the name of the case but i mean just google what i said about it and you should be able to find it easy. edit: lmao the FBI vhs warning! i remember seeing that before every movie on vhs ever. def a fan of these lancaster leak games now the second games camera footage is sooo bad. i grew up on VHS and it never looked like that lol. it was slightly blurry if anything and if it was played too much you'd get random snow lines that annoyed you and if you didn't have a VCR or TV with those knobs to try and fix the snow lines, you were shet outta luck. i think it was to fix the tracking of the vhs? sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't, all i know is i had some VHS's that got snowy AF because of how much i watched em. one was terminator 2 the other was the ewok adventure movie from like 1987 with wilford brimley. it was the only star wars thing i loved as a kid incidently. oh also if you're turning on a camera just to film you'd most def be talking to explain why you're doing it. no one just turns their camera on and goes, especially in the 80s. the cameras back then were HUGE and heavy AF, again i know this because my family had one. this guy would be like "ok its 10 pm on this date and im recording here and so and so park because i think there are wendigos here". i get they wanted to make it a mystery because thats scary but they did it in a way that makes no sense and it ruins it. also did a lot of camping as well and not many people actually showered while camping. only time i ever did was because i was on my period lol. my one issue with camping is the bathrooms. most places dont even have flush toilets, they have pit toilets which is exactly how it sounds and i can't use em lol. its a deep hole, there are bugs everywhere, just no. and its mostly the spiders. i fugging hate spiders so much and yeah....i love camping, i really do. i just hate not having a flush toilet and the bitey bugs. im sensitive and bugs just eat me alive cuz of my sensitive skin. shet sucks man, it sucks. kinda off topic but ive been camping since i was born, so 34 years now, and in the 90s camping was GREAT, not many people around and it really felt like you were in nature but more so in the 2000's thats when camping started to suck. campgrounds became like suburbs where there was a campsite RIGHT on your arse so you had no privacy anymore. thats pretty much when my family stopped camping as much, it was getting expensive and too popular and it was just ruined because of that. camping was turning into just glamping and thats not fun at all.
13:43 "When the subject got back there was an unidentified white male in their campsite. At this point there is an around 90 minute time pause between recordings. When the recording picks back up the subject is 2 miles out from their camp. We do not know why the subject decided to take a hike." As usual, the bacon brigade has no clue what they're doing even when evidence is biting them on the tail. 😊
I like the concept of these games. The first one is a little odd, in that Jimmy supposedly hears the voice of "Maria, his guardian angel," then ends up killed by some...organ smuggler or whatever. Are they saying the kid was hearing voices, or maybe a demon pretended to be an angel and led him away to the killer...? Any way you slice it, it doesn't make sense that the killer lured him away, as it appeared to be an adult male, not an angelic woman. The second one had a few spelling errors in the text. For example, "bueruo" instead of what I'm guessing was supposed to be "bureau." The only thing I don't like about both of them is that the VHS filter is too strong, to the point where I couldn't look directly at either for long b/c it hurt my eyes. I get that the player has "found an old VHS tape and is watching it." So the crappy quality is not because their camera is broken, but because the tape is old and worn out...but it's just too much.

100%. It feels like a pretty straightforward adaptation (same 'guardian angel' setup, and it even ends the _exact_ same way), but the fact that the short isn't mentioned anywhere as an inspiration kinda makes me go 'hmmm'.
The devs need to crank up the filter, I think I can see a game behind it.
My one big problem with "it's actually a Real person with a Real threat" twists is that things that look definitively supernatural are then left unexplained and kinda arbitrary. Yes, i thought about that too and would like some more information about it.
I think Jimmy just had a imagination and in reality he heard a man at the window or something
The dude was just built correctly
Closing Shift guy could've totally survived that hit. Boxers take worse hits than that, I'm sure.
Jimmy is out here with the brightest flash to ever exist
he has one of those brightest flashlights in the world from tiktok
Unfortunately he was not as bright as the camera flash
Don't let Jimboy in the cinema
"Turn off your flash, you friggin moron!"
I can see that the first game was heavily inspired by the short film "The Boy and The Camera".

I guess you meant "The Kid and the Camera"

It's copied from an short film though, like basically the entire thing
@@fbiagent3998yeah but without like a puppet figure thing
I totally loved both games. (and your voice is super calming) Yes, i feel like they could really go wayyyy bigger with the camera game, cus the video that its "loosely" based off of was extremely creepy. Thanks for the video!!!
Everybody thinking of that short horror film about a kid and his camera and I'm over here like 'how tf he taking still images with a VHS camcorder?'
i love you, never change manly
They smack little Jimmy and his camera into the woods pretty abruptly. And his camera is pretty crappy. Little Jimmy's natural eyesight is also a VHS filter.
The investgators in the second game wanted to go home early and marked a lot of stuff as irrelevant. The sound is pretty good. The crickets, the deer and the monsters popping up around you.
I grew up in the 80s around Lancaster, CA and I’ve never heard of the park in the 2nd game in this video. Yeah, I know, it’s a video game😁
Kids these days would be like "screw you I've read this creepypasta."
imagine my delight waking up to a manlybadasshero upload, lets goooo
The first game looked pretty realistic at points, especially the pics Manly took pointed at the ground. It’s probably because the heavy filters masked some of the detail, but still, I’ve seen plenty of those VHS style horror games that didn’t look nearly as convincing.
First game made me think of that animation the kid and the camera crazyyy
It's 11:pm here was about to sleep until I saw your notification xD
"Weird stuff can sometimes go down in these campgrounds though."
Reminds me of the one Disney employee that got arrested in Polk County for trying to reach his hand into a deputy's pants on one of the public boat ramps.
The boy and his camera vibes
The monster in the second game actually made me jump, lmao. Just turned the camera and there it was.
Was about to go to sleep but got a notification about a new vid, gonna watch it now lmao
The thing on top of Jimmy's wardrobe was clearly a Furby.
fully was expecting the kipsneed to pop up at the window during the first game
iykyk
For those here after 3:35PM, 22, november 2023, rewatching this video or first time watching this video, here's the timestamp's for when each game starts:
0:01 Little Jimmy's Gift
6:35 The Lancaster Leak, O'Brien State Park
(I'm doing this cuz i was looking for The Lancaster Leak, O'Brien State Park, cuz i was gonna watch the sequel, and wanted to watch the first part.)
@ManlyBadassHero Your laugh is so adorable lol. Thank you for sharing gameplays
"A lot of mosquitos."
Manly about fireflies.
Holy CRAP that first game set my aura off QUICK. Can count on epilepsy to make horror games even more scary lmao
Anyways, the sound the entities made was friggin terrifying 😭
I need to see more of the first game!!
omg the boy and the camera fangame?? lets go
Fist game, that poor kid😭, second game BUDDIE system 😬
Now hold on there...that fellow at your campsite in the second game...isn't he in the sequel? Dude wearing all white?
Two games the same day? Damn it's our lucky day
That Stock sound effect at the beginning. It's the same one from a cooking easy cooking channel I watched.
i hope you know, youre the best horror game ytber alive atm, if you die, i will go back to no comentary shit, so just so you know, my enjoyment of these games is in your hands
The way the legs were moving after the attack I was considering transformation to be a possibility.
Wendigos, soooooo damn tired of all these damn Wendigos!
Screech this, remove organs that, blah blah blah.
Your voice is so calming and soothing
😂Ha! "Loading skip"..I like that, Manly. It feels like the "other half" and I were experiencing more than our fair share of 'loading skips' in real time last week.
Second game gets -10 for the VHS filter but + 18 for a good wendigo so that's an 8/10 from me
I can't get over the animation of the wendigo killing the guy, tbh. It looks like it just dope slapped him and then left. Wendigo got hands.
>completely normal elk bugle
FBI: THE E N T I T Y
Manley, I believe "Ojibwe" is pronounced _Oh-ji-bway_ if you're curious. Great vid is usual!
I only know this because I follow a couple Ojibwe creators on TikTok 😂
gotta disagree with manly on the feeling of isolation in woods at night. I feel isolated in cities and crowds but i feel alive at home and connected to all things in the woods especially at night. Tho i do understand that I am the exception and notthe rule in this regard at least in modern times.
Never have I clicked and liked a video as fast as I did right now 😂 Love your videos Manly ❤
Hey Manly! Thanks for the content!
The Kid And The Camera 2 - The Man Named Mr. Nick
Good video manly.
i think this was based on the very real story of this killer who took this girl, chopped her hair off, abused her constantly and took pictures of her. there are pics out there of her last moments when he has a knife while taking pics of her. its a real thing that happened, i dont remember the name of the case but i mean just google what i said about it and you should be able to find it easy.
edit: lmao the FBI vhs warning! i remember seeing that before every movie on vhs ever. def a fan of these lancaster leak games now
the second games camera footage is sooo bad. i grew up on VHS and it never looked like that lol. it was slightly blurry if anything and if it was played too much you'd get random snow lines that annoyed you and if you didn't have a VCR or TV with those knobs to try and fix the snow lines, you were shet outta luck. i think it was to fix the tracking of the vhs? sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't, all i know is i had some VHS's that got snowy AF because of how much i watched em. one was terminator 2 the other was the ewok adventure movie from like 1987 with wilford brimley. it was the only star wars thing i loved as a kid incidently.
oh also if you're turning on a camera just to film you'd most def be talking to explain why you're doing it. no one just turns their camera on and goes, especially in the 80s. the cameras back then were HUGE and heavy AF, again i know this because my family had one. this guy would be like "ok its 10 pm on this date and im recording here and so and so park because i think there are wendigos here". i get they wanted to make it a mystery because thats scary but they did it in a way that makes no sense and it ruins it. also did a lot of camping as well and not many people actually showered while camping. only time i ever did was because i was on my period lol. my one issue with camping is the bathrooms. most places dont even have flush toilets, they have pit toilets which is exactly how it sounds and i can't use em lol. its a deep hole, there are bugs everywhere, just no. and its mostly the spiders. i fugging hate spiders so much and yeah....i love camping, i really do. i just hate not having a flush toilet and the bitey bugs. im sensitive and bugs just eat me alive cuz of my sensitive skin. shet sucks man, it sucks. kinda off topic but ive been camping since i was born, so 34 years now, and in the 90s camping was GREAT, not many people around and it really felt like you were in nature but more so in the 2000's thats when camping started to suck. campgrounds became like suburbs where there was a campsite RIGHT on your arse so you had no privacy anymore. thats pretty much when my family stopped camping as much, it was getting expensive and too popular and it was just ruined because of that. camping was turning into just glamping and thats not fun at all.
god I forgot how creepy freaking elk sound, 18:05 scared the bejesus outta me
This game reminds me the "the boy with the camera" horror video. Scarryy...
Thanks for the content!
Dang Jimmy needs to quicken the shutter speed for photograph mode, I mean sheeesh
Cool! We're a Psyker in this one!
13:43
"When the subject got back there was an unidentified white male in their campsite. At this point there is an around 90 minute time pause between recordings. When the recording picks back up the subject is 2 miles out from their camp. We do not know why the subject decided to take a hike."
As usual, the bacon brigade has no clue what they're doing even when evidence is biting them on the tail. 😊
I heard that screech at around 16:00, that same screech is from “Do You Copy?”
Fuck I haven't thought about James Bond Junior since like 94 lmfao
ouch jimmy, my eyes man 💀😣
“James Bond… James Bond, Jr! James Bond, Jr. chases girrrls around the wooorld!” Good theme song.
Oh-jib-way is how you pronounce it. Lol
When Manly said “James bond Jr. 🎶🎶” I felt that
The first game was lit but the flashing vhs effects hurt my brain a lot
I like the concept of these games. The first one is a little odd, in that Jimmy supposedly hears the voice of "Maria, his guardian angel," then ends up killed by some...organ smuggler or whatever. Are they saying the kid was hearing voices, or maybe a demon pretended to be an angel and led him away to the killer...? Any way you slice it, it doesn't make sense that the killer lured him away, as it appeared to be an adult male, not an angelic woman. The second one had a few spelling errors in the text. For example, "bueruo" instead of what I'm guessing was supposed to be "bureau."
The only thing I don't like about both of them is that the VHS filter is too strong, to the point where I couldn't look directly at either for long b/c it hurt my eyes. I get that the player has "found an old VHS tape and is watching it." So the crappy quality is not because their camera is broken, but because the tape is old and worn out...but it's just too much.
the first game reminds me of that animated short: The Kid and his Camera
We all "The Kid and The Camera" fans I see. 😂
Manly your truly a badass
i liked the narrator it added a nice atmosphere
I'd love for the camera to make that grinding sound from "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" as the camera prepares for the next shot.
Very perfect video to watch at 2am
