Love these two videos! I really enjoy Shelfside's little skits. As someone who loves both Eurogames and American style boardgames, this has been wonderful.
But why though his arguments in euro video were he does not like RNG, He does not like miniatures, he does not like story and he does not like competing, and he does not like violence like wtf kind of argument is that XD
Eurogames have their merits and I don't turn up my nose at them if one comes up in a board game night, but I'm an Ameritrash guy through and through. All my favorite games closely intertwine their theme and mechanics. To give an example, I played War of the Worlds: The New Wave for the first time recently, and playing as the humans, I really felt the desperation of trying to buy time and set up some sort of defensive line as the Martian player steamrolled me in the opening turns.
Each video on its own is already great, but together they're even better. Nicely done! Loved the extreme denial going on with the Ameritrash gamer near the end here about TI4, haha.
What's interesting in my experience is that us American-style fans still have an appreciation for Euro games, but often the same can't be same in reverse 🤷♂️
It really depends on what aspect of Ameri the Euro gamer hates, tbh. Most "Euro only" players just don't enjoy the inevitable interaction between players, meaning they don't enjoy older-style Euros as well. Something like Troyes, Catan, Lords of Waterdeep or Princes of Florence is as bad as Descent for them, it's more of a "I enjoy my sandbox" than "I don't like Ameritrash". Ain't met a person enjoying sum backstabby business in Waterdeep who would deny some ameritrashy fun. Met a bunch who would just go "yeah, it's okay if we ban Intrigue" though
Hehe, I'm from Europe and I actually agree (mostly). Some Euro games can feel like trying to have fun with Excel. But meeples are awesome ;) ...just look at Root or Oath!
both sides have ups and downs its just like a ying and yang thing you’re collection must be balanced….. though most of my games include minis XD Anyways super awesome video guys really cool to see that you are trying something new
@@closedchill5243 oh you know what, I just looked it up, and I'm pretty sure that Daniel played High Frontier in college once ahaha. Maybe we'll revisit -Ashton
I love theme and all but I hate minis I also hate cubes but somehow can live with it For me always card games, theme put there sure I guess love the third kind - hybrid but soloable 😁 The conflict? Is with the game, the component? Can be whatever just not minis
Between the terrible choice of either playing a game with interesting decisions (Euro) and playing a game where you actually interact with the other people at the table (Ameritrash), I like to chose the third option where you do both: economic train games. Brass counts, it has railroads, it can come too.
we really gotta try some more train games here! One of our friends was gonna PNP some 18xx game at some point, and I'm thinking about doing a vid on TTR someday. Cheers! -Ashton
I love how there's so much effort to defend something that has trash in its name by definition. That being said, I love ameritrash just as much as I love junk food and coincidentally they both come from the US.

@@fbibarbie ??? That's just a personal argument. Some people don't like some things. Some people just like some puzzly games.
@@DeyaViews ????? just as puzzly if not more so just with better models and harder variables.
Speaking as an engineer, I agree with Ameritrash guy. Who wants to do more engineering?
Just bought a copy of TI4, can't wait for the game to arrive to roll bunch of dices and allocate a bunch of space workers to conquer the galaxy
lol this is how I found out most of my favourite board games are Ameritrash though

I'm a simple man, I see HeroQuest... I click
I know this is supposed to be 1 of 2 different points of view, but the whole time, I was going, "Right!? He gets it!"
hahaha glad you enjoyed both of them :) -Ashton
Whenever I'm at a board game night the people playing the "Ameritrash" games always sound like they're having the most fun.
People who are averse to conflict and randomness tend not to be fun
Excellent concept, writing and execution of these two videos, have definitely leveled up your filmmaking skills 😎
Look at this cubes. Oh no no no no no!
Look at the top of this board!
Look at this meeples!
HAhHqhahhaahhHAHWhzazhs

thanks! Was really fun making these, the riffs really start to get exciting when played back to back. Cheers! -Ashton
Really loved the evolution of the characters in this video almost felt like i was watching a movie and laughed out hysterically at the end XD

If we can't trade our figurines according to some arcane/historical market rules, what's the point? :-P

Eurobore or Ameritrash - what's better? I prefer GOOD games.
You lost your American audience with the 1cmx1cm remark. 😂

Can't really go wrong with having minis! Thanks Bastian, this one was a fun one to experiment with! -Ashton
"Shubb-demonitized " 🤣 good one.
it never gets old! -Ashton
I had to do a relisten of the "Demonitized" part 🤣🤣
It... just ever gets old for me :) -Ashton
Two for the price of one. Also, where's the Abstracts are Better than Everything video?
oh gosh, that one will be a fun one to make, thanks for suggestion man! :D -Ashton
@@Shelfside I love that RUclips decided 2 weeks was a good time to wait before notifying me you replied XD
Can't we all just get along? 😂
i choose the algorhythm enhancing comment
thanks man! Appreciate it -Ashton
This video and the "other one" have 1 dislike. That means there is someone out there who hates both yet is still subscribed to Shelfside.
Amen!😂😂😂 Ameritrash with Euro-y strategy is fun, but some Euro games are slow and lack theming!
You're forgetting the final frontier and smuggest of them all: simulationist
ohhh boy, I will have to look into that! -Ashton
@@Shelfside High Frontier 4 All is really tempting me right now. If I can only fool *I mean convince* my friends to try it.

Miniature wargaming will never die
"Shubb-demonitized" .. word lol
gonna check this out
I thought hero quest was designed by the british?
I still have no clue, about the nuisances I just know I like minis.
them minis are there -Ashton
Shub-demonetized was fantastic
I think my favorite ameritrash game would have to be Merchants and Marauders (with house rules).
The great wall left the chat.

Ticket to Ride and 18xx all the way!(?)
If it don't got Trains, it ain't a game.

I just want a game i can learn in 30 seconds and something and something i can use to fuck with my friends
Thank u for the video
i dont play wargames, it makes people fight you, in real life

Both informative and amusing 👏
thanks man! Glad you liked it -Ashton
Just as in real life. The European is more obnoxious and even though the American might be wrong (I don’t think so) he’s at least likeable.
Usually the American is wrong and unlikeable
Um, what? Blood rage is a Euro game. no dice, all choice = Euro.
lol shub-demonitized
Nice bookends.
thanks man! -Ashton
I play both sides sides so i always win
amen to that, used to do that solo a bit when young with monopoly :) -Ashton
I ❤cubes
ameritrash objectively better. :) (jk i enjoy everything)
bruh
*died from cringe*
This is so forced it's getting cringe to watch.
