As someone who loves SK I can definitely agree that the beginning is the weakest part of the manga. I did like certain parts like Horohoro's intro & Ren's rematch with Yoh but I feel the story doesn't pick up at least till they get travel to America & meet Hao. For me, the meat & potatoes of the manga is where the canon material of 2001 anime stops. Think a lot of the best character moments happen once the mediums diverge (Especially for Ren, Yoh & Chocolove). But I'm also one of those fans who won't sugar coat things & say if you're not feeling the story by the time the teams are made & the 2nd phase of the tournament starts then it probably won't hit for you cuz that'll pretty much be the vibe the whole way through from that point on.
The early stages of the manga were rather episodic. I personally think that Yoh and Manta's friendship, as well as showing us who Yoh is, willing to help anyone, is best portrayed in those early episodic chapters. As well as having just about the most nostalgic art and vibe out there. I genuinely think I've never read a series with art thah has just appealed to me in such a way like SK.
I wouldn't say mediocore but i do agree the 2003 anime is better at the start it improved on the manga. I think at the start hiroyuki takei is kinda trying to find his vibe.. I think some of the changes in 2003 are interesting like introducing horohoro early making their tournament match more interesting. To me it's really once the anime seperates from the manga that the manga was better for me. With the only exception that the 2003 anime cut out ren killing the patch guy which is a scenario where i do think ren is portayed more menacing in the manga or even the 2021 anime that i hate
Maybe I'll feel the same way once I get a decent way through the manga. I do feel like the author was still feeling things out in the early portions so it'll probably get better.
Your problems is your are too impatient .you just want everything to be perfect right off the bat. That's not how stories work. The msnga improves greatly later on but given your tone you are probably still going to hate it. Just say you don't like shonen and move on.

Honestly as a whole Ryu I feel is a worse character in the manga continuity, which is a shane because when I first watched the Anime I thought he was pretty neat character.
@@ReelJV I enjoy the manga more than the 2001 anime, just felt Ryu in the manga fell flat for me. Amoung other things I didn't like how Ryu being into "younger women" was more prominent in the manga. Though characters like Hao & Chocolove were a lot better in the manga.
Early Shaman King is a little rough in my opinion. I feel like it picks up a lot when Silva first shows up, and then picks up even more when the gang reaches America. Although I will say there are a few moments after that fall off hard for me. I don't like the Yoh and Anna flashback.
thats a bummer to hear i've not read the manga so its kinda sucky the beginning isn't that interesting i liked how they went about the 2001 adaptation for the reasons u said in the video shame its not there hopefully the rest of the manga gets better

Good video this shows anime can have stuff enhanced the story of the manga better than the manga so filler can be good if you have the proper writers.

Shaman King was always mid. Takei could never surpass Watsuki

Try edens zero manga. It's very good. I am not big fan of anime. Anime is average for me compered manga.
I've heard pretty good things about it and I'm a fan of fairy tail despite its reputation so I might enjoy it.
