The fruit/veggies spoiling on the plant is a common thing for PC. From my understanding, the spoil timer starts the second the island renders even if you don't "land" on it. I've found quite abit of spoiled fruit on the plant on islands that are visible from another island by the time I get there. However I have found that islands outside of your view distance, if you go straight to them once they "pop" into view, the fruit is good. Just my findings.
