This is incredible Teo! Definitely following her work now! What I really would love to know, is How on earth she does the effect and editing! I'd love to experiment with this style of work.
You can always try the negative clarity and negative texture in lightroom, I usually do it with a brush mask myself, with a slight bit of haze to make it feel even lighter.
Her images and her words are full of wisdom well beyond her years and suggests a very creative mind and keen eye for detail and observation . We are all blessed with skills and often don’t recognise them until somebody points then out to us . I hope this video inspires others to just go out and photo the places they like and then ask themselves how they could alter the image to make it more soothing and mysterious as well . Brilliant video and such a fascinating artist .
Great exploration of her work, I would really be interested in a more in depth look into the techincal side of her photography as well, these textures she is able to achieve are too good
She appears to use the Distressed FX app and edits on her tablet. The birds in her images are from that app too. Very simple to use but cheating (IMO) if you fail to mention it.
I've been a bit lost lately, a child grown up in the "productive" world for the better part of a couple decades. I found photography a few years ago. It got me out of the house when there was nothing else and made me appreciate moments that are likely only to be appreciated by myself, yet priceless for that reason. This video made me feel something for the art that is human creation out of emotion. These days the attention span is so sought after that there is little time to let ourselves react in a human way. Her art is compelling but your presentation adds to it in a captivating way, I felt soothed which let me open up and take the moment to feel human and appreciate how special that is. This is the first video of yours I've watched but I can tell you I will be back. Feeling human is a wonderful feeling.
Wow! I love her painterly style and she definitely nails the emotionality in her photos 😩 so inspiring! Your careful analysis is also fantastic to hear, love hearing your philosophical take on photography ❤️
I am no expert in painting or photography, but I know a good picture when it conjures my emotions and gives pleasure to my senses. Samantha pictures does that and more. in one word it's refreshingly sensational.
Great analysis! I love these videos that go over the work of various artists. I love these ethereal and painterly photos! I definitely feel the contemplative nature that she is trying to convey with her photos.
Witnessing someones photographic journey is always an interesting feeling. Appreciation for their art as well as some jealousy of their seemingly complete "style". I love picking apart what makes an artists style and applying certain elements to my own to see if something new will happen. Maybe this is the process most artists go through to reach their "style". Lovely video & thank you for sharing Samantha's work Teo ❤
Wonderfully Done Video Teo!! You discovered a Gem when you discovered Samantha and I thank both of you for allowing this video to get into the world for ALL to SEE!!!!!
Two thanks for introducing us to Samantha. She has done some beautiful work! One small criticism however. I found the background with the moving dust, etc. quite distracting while watching the video.
I love Claude Monet and Impressionism. Really inspiring to see how expressive and experimental Samantha is with her work that leads to such as visceral and distinct style. Your video and animations you used complements and highlights her work really well.
Teo, thank you for sharing your thoughts on Samantha’s photographic style. Both your work and hers offer solace and inspiration at a time I need it the most. I hope you’re proud of your work here-you should be.
Thank you, thank you for existing. I found you yesterday and I didnt know the perfect youtuber was just right here. An austrian bloke waiting to be discovered. I love your videos, specially the ones that are more documentary-like. Keep doing this please because this for me is the best content ever done. 🤎 A fan from Spain
When the artist crosses boundaries of medium like this, it's even difficult to call it "painting"...did she apply pigment to a canvas with a brush? I suppose calling it photography is appropriate-ish, simply because the bulk of the image-making process is from using a camera...but at the same time, it's hard for me to call the final result a photograph.
Been binging a lot of your videos the last week or so, and this might be my favorite one. Really enlightening and inspiring video and work from Samantha!
I always loved painting, drawing, also photography/videography. I aspire to draw landscape similar like her photos but I am no where close to that level. So I was thinking why not taking pictures while travelling the world, living my life. So inspiring! Thank you for this video really opened my eye to a new perspective.
Thanks for showing some recent interesting photography. I'm lucky that RUclips recommended me this video. if you're interested in poetry for photography, I think William Wordsworth or Robert Frost are classics that feel a bit similar to these photos. honestly, i had to read their poetry in school but ended up kind of enjoying them.

Beautifully presented, totally absorbing, an artist new to me. Samantha''s photographs are actually paintings in one sense. Presumably they originate as digital images. So in post processing she appears to use painterly ideas to manipulate the pixels in some detail. I would not wish to analyse such beautiful images. Her reasons for photographing them are similar to my own but my results of course differ, since I am from a different generation with a different background though with shared interests. But I would wish my images engaged with this intensity. You are very good at presenting this, obviously really inspired by Samantha's ideas and imagery. You communicate it well. Bookmarked!
It’s a wonder this is actually a thing I’ve been doing this for years but also a discussion in photography Ansel Adams veered away from this genre to more realism. It comes natural to me so I embrace it. People think there is a lot of editing involved since a tremendous amount of photography is photoshoped an some do but I come out of Natgeoyourshot group an you were allowed minimum editing, now I don’t know how much she edits. This is very attainable photography, there is tremendous dynamics in nature an wildlife if you know what you’re looking for. I’m glad to see someone else involved in this genre of photography. Light an shadows every where
Mr Teo, this delightful and informative artistic video beautifully colors the photos, the artist and your genuine appreciation for sharing passions which enrich our human life experiences as if you were communicating with Angels in Heaven. The voice and selection of words are seemingly from or of an Angel to another Angel. It’s 6:00 AM in California and this video captivated my imagination. Bravo! My gratitude.
I'm very curious about the color grading and overall editing of the different photos of Samantha. I love the feel and I want to be able to express my own dreamy feel.
I discovered your channel after it was recommended by YT and I am so glad I was because it is excellent! And I love the beautiful photography of today's essay, Samantha Cavet - just achingly gorgeous.
I love Samantha’s work and was brought here because of her. Such a delightful work you made here. I’m definitely going to subscribe. And thank you for taking the time to share this with one of my favorite photographers 🤍
I am glad I took the time to read the posts already attached, I too thoroughly enjoyed the video but also found the background animation a bit distracting.
This was very inspiring, and I should have a closer look at Samantha's work! And I should have a look at your other videos (I think I've already watched one in the past, but I'm not sure). Edit: Found it, "Why Film Photography is popular again."
I might be 2 weeks late but nevertheless I feel extremely obliged to find this video. I find myself enthralled by both Samantha's work and this video. Thank you so much! Man I'd love to take a workshop with Samantha or at least get to talk to her a little bit.
Fantastic video. Wrt poetry, I would recommend the Japanese haikus. They are the poetry most akin to photographs, since they describe precise moments in time.
John Keats, Teo. John Keats. Could be a little over the top in terms of emotionality to you. But his poetry seeps with an intense, short-lived passion for existence in our world. I have never read anything that close to describing natural places. It brings you right there.
I'd love to know more about her practice, how does she create the photos? Are they multiple exposures on film, or layers in photoshop? Or something else?
You can see in the video that she uses a digital camera. So it is photoshop. There are many effects already in photoshop which you can use mimicking the effect of pastel drawings, oil paintings, watercolor and so on. But that would not be enough on its own because then all the pictures would look too similar. You'd have to use very little % of those effects. Just to give that painterly feel. She uses canvas textures or paint textures probably snatched up from google images and then overlays them on top of her photographs with opacity changes in both images. Then there is the obvious saturation/hue/contrast/blur effects going on as well. Either in-camera or post-production.
You'd probably love the poems of Mary Oliver or Amanda Nadelberg. Mary Oliver specifically, she has a wonderful way of crafting images and invoking something in me that drives my desire to be back in nature.
Thank you, Mr. Crawford. I found this very inspirational. Samantha's eye is quite good and I really appreciate your informative interview I am glad to subscribe to your Chanel. I would like to thank Alex Kilbee and his Photography Channels 'RUclips DOESN'T WANT To Show You! video for turning me onto your work' In response to your request about inspirational poetry I would like to recommend the great nature poet Mary Oliver; for example; "Wild Geese" " . . . the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting - over and over announcing your place in the family of things." Also, I might recommend the haiku of Basho. To me, both haiku and photography express that "moment of experience" in there on unique mediums.
YES! I also want to make more of these kind of videos more frequently and they are coming, but not so soon yet. These require so much work, that I currently can't afford to do these as regularly as I'd like to, but once uni stress is over in autumn, I'm going to increase the frequency of video at this quality standard🤗
Thanks for the excellent video Teo! Try reading some poetry by Elizabeth Bishop. She had an amazing eye for detail which translates well to photographic inspiration. For me she inspires the music I make, but I think it would help with photography too.
Actually I don't know too many contemporary poets but Ben Howards album Noonday dream is actually made of his poems I think his poems/songs are unbelievably visual.
I read the title wrong, read it as paintings that look like photographs and as a painter myself was very interested. While watching the introduction of the "paintings" I was confused as I thought to myself these artworks obviously look like paintings and not photographs. And then I re read the title of the video and gasped.
Try this book : Self Love Poetry by Melody Godfred. Thank you for sharing her work and subscribing to your channel was never a regret, looking forward to more!
Lovely video covering beautiful art. You should check out Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke. It’s one of the things that opened my eyes to want to shoot anything and everything! Or at least feel like I could.
Turning a photo into a painting is a great way to start if you cant paint but ultimately untill you dont brush that oil onto canvas then its not a painting
Beautiful approach, but so much manipulation in the editing process, it looks like heavily darkroomed in color grading, mid tones, highlights, blending and saturation. Also, I think she adds a texture using PS plus noise , dehaze and so on. It's nice artwork and she has the skills of a good photographer, but it's just a different digital aesthetics . by the way, wonderful video Teo.
i love her photos, but i have some questions. Are these edited? If then, why is it so fascinating? There are many people who edit like this. If i sound like I'm criticizing, that is not my intention. I just thought if it was shot purely on film, i would be really shocked. And i understand not everything is supposed to be shocking, just curious. The photos are amazing, also thanks for the video!
Although I do think most of her work is nicely composed and has some great technique and style, I believe her "photographs" are overedited and shouldn't be considered photography at a pure level. I would assume the raw images are just fine, but there's a point in these images where there's more editing than photography. I would call this more digital art rather than photography. I also think that your explanations of the photos are a bit of a reach. (it sounds like your just making some stuff up at times and kinda sounds pretentious). I like your videos generally but not so much what you're saying in this one.
I wouldn't call them "over" edited as art is subjective and that's just how some people's work is... I will say though that the lines are blurring and I have been surprised to discover that some of the photographic artists I follow use Photoshop a lot more than I initially realised, not really sure how I feel about it personally. I prefer to create most "effects" in camera but then I must ask myself why? Why does it matter? Does it even matter? If the artist is not presenting a documentarian style then is it even an issue?
I really wanted to watch this, it seemed interesting but the black spots on the background jumping everywhere made it impossible to focus on the subject…such a pity
This work is not all the authors. I recognised the flock of birds in one image as being from the “Birds” collection in the iPhone and iPad Distressed FX app. I checked and they are identical, that particular one is named “swirl”. I suspect also that the artistic look Samantha achieves are all from the same app. Is she cheating? Well yes if she has used apps and is presenting the work as her own. Some images here are nothing without the treatments applied.
These images have a clear line back to Monet, Seurat, Magritte, Pissarro and other painters of that period. They are very pleasant to look at but the photographs are only a base upon which to "paint" using photoshop manipulation. In that regard they are only a few steps up from "paint" presets in many cameras. For that reason they are bordering on pastiche or even mild kitsch. But they are attractive and a lot better than many other photoshop manipulations most of which are awful.
I love it when photographers go further than simple shots, the editing gives the art back to the medium.
Samantha is a great photographer and friend! I'm glad i followed her journey from the beginning, Amazing video Teo!!

You can always try the negative clarity and negative texture in lightroom, I usually do it with a brush mask myself, with a slight bit of haze to make it feel even lighter.
Smart objects, history brush, masking, textures, mixing brush, smudge tool, brush with color type change and filters. Nothing incredible here.
combination of patterns, filters, overlays and certain leyer effects in photoshop
It seems also a fair use of Luminar’s AI (the birds and clouds). This is so amazing style and body of work
Her images and her words are full of wisdom well beyond her years and suggests a very creative mind and keen eye for detail and observation . When you're photo editing this heavily it's not really just photography anymore, it's somewhere between painting and photography.
Digital art I'd say, not painting probably
Yeah, it's a bit too much for my taste too. It has a look of AI art as well.
When the artist crosses boundaries of medium like this, it's even difficult to call it "painting"...did she apply pigment to a canvas with a brush? Beautifully presented, totally absorbing, an artist new to me. Samantha''s photographs are actually paintings in one sense. Presumably they originate as digital images.
It’s not all her work. These are mediocre images with some extreme filters (and birds) applied from the Distressed Fx app, probably on an iPad.
But they are attractive and a lot better than many other photoshop manipulations most of which are awful.
you forgot rene magritte
