  • Modelling is a compositional technique where you use a single reference track as a detailed blueprint to create a new cue... a sort of Sound-A-Like which is something we are often asked to do as composers when directors and producers give us temp music or references. This process involves analyzing those reference track's form, structure, instrumentation, harmonic language, and rhythmic patterns to guide the creation of a new cue that retains the stylistic elements of the reference but is original in its melodic and harmonic content. Let's have some fun, and here is the link if you want to have a go too: www.atomicamusic.com/tracks?t...

It was truly worth the hour of my time to watch this… gaining a greater understanding of how to make a sound-a-like track based on a provided track from which to use as a model. Cheers, Dex!

Thanks for the reply, and I think it realy depends on what you are trying to learn from these videos... hopefully I'm showing some useful insight as to how I work... which is something I didn't have a reference for when I started composing and just thought I was really slow or bad at composing. Also bear in mind this isn't the whole process, but it is real time. If anyone has feedback where you feel I could help please leave it in the comments as composing can be a lonely pursuit at time... all the best, Dex :)
