I am so happy to report that it's been a couple of weeks since I filmed this video, and both taste and smell are returning. Hooray!!!❤And thank you all for the well wishes and encouragement. ❤
I'm so happy for you Emmy!! When I lost my sense of smell I tried using a method where you smell 4 to 5 different essential oils every 2 hours and fortunately I recovered my smell in two days. The moment I started smelling roses I literally cried of joy, I thought I would spend months without smell like I've read in so many comments. Hope to see you happily tasting again!
I work in the fragrance industry, so needless to say, I almost had a nervous breakdown when my sense of smell got jacked up because of covid. It was not something that came back “overnight”. So many times I thought I would never smell things the same again. It was very slow and gradual. Actually almost a year after I got covid, I was still smelling SOME things differently. So, it can be very slow in returning and you might notice that even after many months, certain things might still smell alien. Thankfully, two years later, I can confidently say that my sense of smell is 100% back to normal, and I have an even higher appreciation for this gift.
I got covid late August - early September last year and now some stuff still smell weird. My bodywash, deodorant, fragrance mist and hand sanitizer smell really off. At first, after I was able to smell again, my bodywash smelled like chemicals, now I can smell the original scent with a bit of an extra something that is really weird. I used to like all of these scents a lot, now they are a bit unpleasant
I’m a collector and I lost my sense of taste and smell for a long time. I can smell some days now, but other days it just goes away out of nowhere. What sucks is I get excited for new frag deliveries, but sometimes I can’t smell at all and sometimes things smell weird.
I lost my sense of smell for a month and when it came back, for a week I lost the nuances of smell like Sour cream onion chips just taste salty. Coke was just flavored water. Now I've been smelling smoke all the time. Its called phantom smells and covid does affect your smell receptors in a permanent way. Two years now since I got covid and I'm still smelling smoke. Perfumes I loved before I can't stand smelling.

Luckily the loss of taste and smell isn’t a permanent side effect! I know I would still be devastated at the loss of taste and smell for as long as it’s been though, poor Emmy, she’s such a trooper.
@@jacquesc0usteau that’s not guaranteed. Some people from Covid have lost their senses of taste and smell entirely. Some rare and unlucky few have also had a side effect called Parosmia which develops after they regain their senses. It basically makes everything that is fragrant as food taste and smell like burnt sewage juice and faeces. It has actually ruined these people’s lives. They can barely eat because to eat anything is like trying to gag down a bunch of things you found at the bottom of the toilet in every conceivable way. It’s horrific for them. It’s one of the most horrific side effects of Covid for some people. They’ll never enjoy food or eating again. They’ll only ever taste and smell sewage and poo again.
@@jacquesc0usteau Not for everyone. I know people who’ve suffered from it for months. Not just loss of taste/smell but everything tasting/smelling disgusting, like poop or chemicals etc. Here’s hoping Emmy’s resolves quickly 🤞
@@jacquesc0usteau But for some people (myself) it can last months and then your taste can also be permanently changed. I was tasteless and scentless for 3 months and for three more months all my food tasted rancid, particularly meats. Up until a certain point, my taste was altered in an indescribable way and just recently started returning.
i started crying watching Emmy not be able to smell. she seemed like she was hurting even though she was maybe trying to keep things light. i have always loved the way she describes the complexity of taste and smell--there are a few words that I learned because of her. I'm so glad to read that her senses are coming back.
I've had covid three times. I only lost my sense of smell/taste the second time. It's insane how depressing it is to not be able to taste any food. All those things you'd eat when sick no longer bring any joy. To say I was miserable that second time would be a massive understatement.
Sorry, this didn’t work! Tik tok is really becoming the 5-minute crafts of social media platforms - so much misinformation, it’s sad honestly. Hope you and your family feel better soon!
Hey not to be a dick, but this isn't a tiktok idea, this is a Jamaican remedy and had been around far longer than the app, she just did it wrong in both iterations because unfortunately, as you said, there is misinformation
@@pillkink Yeah, she should've drank American remedy called snake oil instead. Just gotta get the "real" stuff and it will work for sure, and if it doesn't then she got the wrong stuff because misinformation. /s
Im so sorry you are goinn through this Emmy! Your videos bring so many people so much joy and you are just so lovely and educational. Thank you for that. I love watching your videos and your voice is also very soothing haha. I wish you a very speedy recovery.
@@kaylaklover I think she's already done a vid about cast iron, but it'd still be cool for her to include it in an all encompassing vid so people have one reference to look to. (Sidenote: i am a dummy when it comes to cast iron 👀)
My taste and smell came back after a couple months. Smelling vinegar and garlic helped. Also I'd try cinnamon, anything with a strong smell will get your process going.
MONTHS?? Omg I knew about the loss of smell but I figured it was just for the duration of severe Covid symptoms, or at least no longer than you’d usually have something like a bad cold, 2-3 weeks tops 😧 had no idea it lasted so long
Strong and familiar smells are important from what I heard. So like cinnamon for example: your brain knows what it’s SUPPOSED to smell like, so it’s easier for the body to remember.
Oh, I hear you. It's been three years. I'm still shocked when I can't smell something at all (it tunes in and out now like a bad radio.) I no longer enjoy onion, garlic, dark leafy greens, my pre-COVID favorite perfume is kind of...yuck. It's a struggle but I guess I'm kind of getting used to it.
It was so much more depressing than I ever could have expected to not be able to smell and taste for so long. It took a year for my senses to go back to normal but even now, some things don't smell the same anymore and I don't think they ever will
Some people found taking mushrooms caused their sense of smell to return mid trip. It makes sense given the way it interacts with the brain, might be worth trying if you're desperate.
Emmy has mentioned how her oldest son has started getting BO, so maybe it's a good thing, lol. Teen boy hormones and BO can be a terrible mix sometimes!
Maybe mine needs a little back story. I used to smell my mom, not in a bad way, she had like a floral honey natural scent. She hated it, but I knew I wouldn't have it forever and I was right. She passed Halloween of 2018. I miss the comfort it would bring. So hearing it taken away from someone else, no matter if it's short lived, makes my heart hurt.
I hope your sense of smell comes back soon! Watching you smell things and describe them is oddly one of the most entertaining things about your videos 😂
agree that the enjoyment of smelling and tasting and describing all the feels while trying all the thing is one of the things I enjoy most with these videos. The joy and expressiveness even when not good is so fun
The essential oils in the peel are extremely volatile so they are basically gone when it's donde charring. Smell therapy has shown results, but it takes time. Also, recently there was a trial with injections of platelet-rich plasma from the person's blood, and half the patients seem to have recovered (Stanford Medicine news center). I hope you can find an alternative that helps you, Emmy.
I agree! Barkeep's Friends is a terrific solution for scalded/ blackened pans.I am so happy to learn your sense of smell and taste have returned. What a relief!
Hey Emmy, my sister had Covid. I did find some techniques to bring back smell. Eventually your body will recover, everyone’s different, but I found an simple method that did help my sister. It does help to continue to smell things even if you can’t, your brain is elastic and can form new neuro pathways to help restore scent. So maybe several times a day, have an assortment of scents to smell, and repeat this process. Slowly you’ll begin to start smelling and then taste will follow. Ultimately my sister had to just let her body recover from loss of taste and smell, but trying out a regular method of smelling familiar things did start to work, even if just a little bit.
It's not the brain that COVID is affecting. It's the receptors in the nose. My son tried scent therapy for months. Over 2 years later and he still can't smell after COVID.
Your videos have always been so sweet andpleasant to watch, I just know you're a cool person. You are literally the last person I'd ever hope to lose their senses :( The way you get excited about weird foods and describe them in such detail is just the best and I hope you recover soon Emmy!! Thank you for your fun videos!
Black is the new orange... Seriously, LOVE your channel! Losing just one of our five senses has to be really scary. Losing two must be very alarming. Please, may you recover completely 100% your taste and smell.
It took about 1.5months for the smell to return a little when I had it in april 2020. And about 4 months till I could smell finer herbs like basil again
I just watched a video from a channel called Homemade Wanderlust about how they and their family finally got their sense of smell back by getting something called a ganglion block. It's pricy, especially since it's mostly one clinic in Texas doing it specifically for parosmia, but an interesting option to know exists! Her video has her whole story.
Emmy. I just thank you so much for saying what you said about Covid. I actually lost my brother due to complications of Covid back in 2020. I think there's such a tendency for folks to think it's over. It's really not. I'm in my forties and I just lost a friend YESTERDAY from Covid complications. My husband and I still lose our sense of taste and smell from time to time. My heart is with you and I'm so glad to see your update comment. Nothing but the best wishes for you and your family ❤️
Thrilled to see your Common Ground Fair t-shirt! My family and I go every year. Best little country fair ever. Hello Emmy from eastern coastal Maine! ❤️
A great test for smell is Tiger Balm. Strong enough to pick up the faintest hits. I lost smell after a covid delta episode, but only four about 4 or 5 days if I recall. Glad it's returning.
I've seen this online and wondered if it would work. I'm so glad your senses are returning! I lost my sense of taste from covid 1 year ago. I can smell just fine I just can't taste! I thought they were connected so I thought it was strange to only lose one! It sort of helps if I smell the food as I'm eating it but only a little.
Editing to add: basically the burnt orange trick is consentrating smell in this case an orange, and getting your nose some exercise therby working in a similar way to the concentrates used for nose scent therapy! Thats the theory anyway! I'm surprisingly early! I've seen the orange trick float around. Apparently the best think is to do sent/nose therapy which is basically just sniffing super strong smelling stuff (more work but that's the super oversimplification 😂)
glad your family is feeling better. when I got COVID last year I lost senses. they don't feel like they have been the same since. wishing you the best. still enjoying your videos
We ended up getting a supplement called L-arginine. Everything I ate tasted like salt. My cousin said citrus tasted like dirt. This stuff worked well for the both of us.
emmy! you and your family are sick with covid and you're making such fun, positive and hopeful videos. what a relief that your senses are returning! i hope you've been able to take plenty of care of yourself off camera
Have you tried olfactory retraining? Basically you take strong scents, like those essential oils, and you smell them while thinking about/imagining/remembering what they smelled like. Supposedly it has positive results for many people if you do it consistently (from what I've read it can take up to 6 months for best results). Some people also said Flonase helped. As with anything, it's hard to say what's actually helping when the results take weeks or months because it could be the treatment or it could just be the passing of time.
Oh, Emmy, I'm sorry you've lost your sense of smell and taste! When I had it a little over year ago, I lost mine for a day and was so scared it was gonna be long-term or permanent (my sister still hasn't gained hers back completely after over a year) and was so grateful and relieved it came back quickly! I hope and pray that yours returns soon! I know that's so hard for someone who loves food and all the nuances of flavors. Best wishes for recovery for you and yours! 💌
Adding a little baking soda with the water to lift off burns. For those of us who eschew using possibly harmful chemicals, or allergic to anything with a scent.
I lost most of my taste and smell for a few days due to Covid and I had no idea how much it would affect my life. It was oddly sad. So much enjoyment comes from these senses. The one thing I could kind of smell/taste was citrus so I just kept making soup and adding a lot of lemon into it so I could taste at least something. Wishing everyone well!
I've had covid four times now. Not vaccinated. Lost my smell and taste the first time two and half weeks all returned. This last infection I only lost smell returned after five days. Usually it returns after a short time. As we get vaxed or natural exposure it seems to get milder each time. At least that's my experience. Just saw your update. Glade your getting it back. Stay healthy.
I love everything about the burnt orange cure. It’s a modern folk remedy, which is wonderful. No matter how much we advance scientifically, humans still try to find our own cures and medicine.
I would assume it has some validity to it because vitamin c does help heal. Also the burnt smell and taste with the bitter flavor may awaken dulled senses. Maybe it isn't as strong against covid symptoms. But I'm sure as an old remedy it could have helped some people.
Hopefully watching & can’t wait for the outcome! I have heard about the burnt orange, but haven’t tried it… I tested positive for Covid 12/28/21. Was very sick for the first 2 weeks of January 2022. Lost my sense of taste AND smell. It’s been ONE WHOLE YEAR now, and it hasn’t returned 😞 I can finally OCCASIONALLY, sporadically smell or taste something. But mostly what I can distinguish in taste is salt, sometimes spicy, and if it is in the item, citric acid. BUT, I’m still here and that is what’s most important! I do hope they both fully return, because I am a “foodie.” I have always ENJOYED food… the smells, all the ‘tastes’ and everything that goes with it. I hope yours returns soon! I’m glad you & your family are good! ❤
I lost my sense of smell and taste to a year and a half ago when I had Covid, and I am just now starting to be able to smell some things or I get a brief width of something and then it goes away. I am hoping that it’s gonna come back. I feel for you Emmy!
I recently saw a video called "How I FINALLY Regained My Sense Of Taste & Smell After 2 YEARS" and the account is "Homemade Wanderlust" and the woman along with 3 of her family members were able to smell and taste after that. I don't know if that could be helpful to you of not.
Emmy, my heart is weeping right now. I'm so glad to hear that your sense of taste and smell have started returning. I'm wishing you and your family a speedy recovery
Hi Emmy! I love your channel! I watched a taste expert in a video recently, and she said that exercising your senses can help bring them back quicker. Essentially, she recommended using essential oils to try smelling different smells, thinking what it's supposed to smell like, and trying to trigger memories of those smells. I don't know if or why this might work, but I just really wanted to help if I could. Best!
I regained my sense of taste and smell the next day after I did the burnt orange trick. Loss of those senses was the worst of my COVID symptoms, thankfully.
I'm still waiting for mine to return completely. Some days I can taste and smell things a little but while eating it goes back to nothing. Definitely tasted sour and salty etc. Hope your's comes back soon.
My son and I had COVID almost three years ago. I lost my a sense of smell and some taste. I have two oranges in the fridge, so I will be trying your test tonight. They say everyone's different, but I do have hope.. Thank you so much for all you do. Love your channel.
I'm going through COVID right now, and a few days in, started loosing some of my taste and smell. I've totally lost sweet, and have reduced umami and sour, salty and bitter are still present. Glad you're doing better!!
I had the same thing happen and my senses were gone for weeks. I did "smell training" where I would sniff things like teatree oil and say out loud to myself what it is. My senses came back pretty quickly after that. It could have been a weird coincidence but who knows.
Taste and smell mean so much to people. My mother lost her sense of smell and taste from cancer. (Everything had no taste or a weird taste) From the moment she lost them, she kept trying to find something that tasted normal. She couldn't. As a person who loved cooking and trying new dishes, she kept cooking and trying to find something enjoyable. She never did. She gave up. Stopped eating. Eating gave her pleasure and it was lost. She became very frail and bone thin. She had been previously declared in remission. It was while she had cancer and was in remission that she stopped eating, so she was given a feeding tube to keep her from dying from starvation. She grew so weak that when they found that the cancer had come back, she had no strength or will to fight it. She immediately gave up. She was tired. I feel that she may have been strong enough to fight the cancer, again if she was at a healthy weight and hadn't lost the desire to eat. I never quite understood how losing sense of taste and smell could matter so much that she'd stop eating. But I think for her, everything tasted bad to her. The world lost a truly loved, beautiful human 3 years ago. With ALL that being said Emmy, I'm so happy you are getting your taste and smell back. Eating delicious foods and smelling the worldly scents are never quite appreciated as essential to our daily quality of life until they're lost. God Bless.
I knew someone once who was born without a since of smell and really enjoyed rice krispie treats. I am thinking it must have been a texture thing. Glad you are getting better.
I used to work for a professor in college who was born with no sense of smell. His body odor was terrible but of course, he never knew it. That is another downside of having no sense of smell.
my orange allergy is SCREAMING right now. i would kill to eat even a charred orange :( i'm so sorry you've lost your sense of taste and smell. the fact that you have remained so positive is something you should be proud of. i love your videos, and can't wait until you're back to normal!
Wow you too? I also have an orange allergy, it’s so sad because i grew up eating creamsicle ice cream and chocolate oranges. Now it makes my mouth and throat itch and swell!
@@Shrifbun yes! i used to eat oranges everyday growing up then around 13-14 i started swelling and itching. now even if an orange is opened in the same room i start breaking out in hives 😬 only gets worse with age haha
I caught covid over a year ago and sadly, my tastebuds were never the same. I hope you recover yours soon. It sucks not being able to taste food like you used to. 😢
I absolutely adore how positive you are with life. You see the negatives for what they are and always look forward to the future. You are an inspiration.
Most terrifying feeling. I hope you get it fully back. I only got like 50 percent and I am so scared of being sick again because it makes life feel emptier.
I also lost my taste and smell after COVID. It was so weird being able to put my nose into something strong like coffee or garlic and smell - nothing. After about 6 weeks it started to come back, one smell at a time, but everything smelled - musty? like it had been in the pantry two years too long - for months. Eventually after I got vaccinated it went back almost to normal although I still experience a few things differently, like Earl Grey tea, which I no longer like, and coffee, which isn't as awesome as before. Glad you are improving!
@@guguigugu it can take up to two years but generally it comes back within 6 months. I lost mine for about two weeks. I just kept smelling things i knew smelled strong. One day i caught a wiff of my body spray. And it slowly came back after that, but everything was kinda muted for a month. It's been just over a month now and my smell is totally back now. So my recommendation is just to keep exercising your neurorecptors. You'll get your smell back eventually.
@@madisonsines7086 yea i keep smelling everything around the house. coffee, deodorant, whiskey... i have like 30% back maybe. it's been a week since i lost it 100%.
Praying for you guys Emmy! I know how important senses are I use mine so much. I can smell from my upstairs bedroom when my dogs water or food bowls are empty lol. I hope you guys make a full recovery.
I lost my sense of smell for 2 weeks after getting Covid! I worked at a coffee shop at the time, and it was so weird not to smell any of the flavors 😭 feel better!! Hope your smell comes back soon!!
Orange was the first thing my other half and I were able to smell and taste after we got covid. Maybe it's more to do with oranges in general? Maybe the oils and heating it enhances it?
I lost my sense of smell and taste several days before I tested positive. That was a year ago this month. I'm just now getting them back. I'm just thankful I am getting them back. It also had made appreciate my senses so much more.
Nurses at my local hospital told people to keep tasting hot sauce. The idea is that if your force your taste buds to react to strong flavors that the recovery time is shortened.
It's not your taste buds. Your taste buds can taste sweet, salty, bitter, and umami. That's why those aren't affected by COVID. The rest of tasting is actually done by your nose. They say if you plug your nose, you can't tell the difference between a raw potato, raw apple, and raw onion. Those flavors come through your nose.
Hey Emmy, have you tried a sinus rinse bottle? My daughter and i too had covid over the holidays and I kept doing the Nedi-Med sinus rinse and I did not losemy sense of taste or smell and I had a ton of congestion. Maybe it can still help you get your smell back by helping your sinuses heal. It's worth a try!
A WIRED video of a Taste Expert answering questions said something along the lines of smelling essential oils and trying to remember the smells can gradually help the brain recall those memories when smelling said scent. A person in the comments said they did the same things, but also smelled strong scents they hated. I hope your senses recover quickly!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if she hasn't regained it by now she more than likely never will or it will permanently altered. The reason why we lose our sense of smell and taste with covid is the inflammation in our sinuses destroys the neurorecptors. We do regrow these neurorecptors over our life which is why our sense of smell changes over time. However the covid may have ended up destroying all of hers. I would be surprised if it comes back. I wish her luck, it sucks to be without smell.
I’m so glad your sense of taste and smell are coming back! Recently had Covid for the first time and I also lost my smell and taste 😩 It was very distressing and I was scared I would be one of those who never recovered! It took 3, 4 weeks before they came back!
I love the Common Ground Fair t-shirt! I went for the first time this past year. My family is from Unity and I've been going there for the summer every year that I can remember. Good choice with the swiss chard shirt!
Pushing water through your sinuses is not going to fix the damaged neurons. Most likely either a coincidence or your reduced sense of smell was only down to congestion.
my understanding is that the loss of smell is due to demyelination of the olfactory nerve, which needs a compliment of B vitamins to help recover quickly... additionally, a fat soluble form of b1 called "benfotiamine", helps to quickly repair myelin. I'd throw a gaggle of B's at it, and also vitamin c which is helpful with tissue repair. here's hoping you get better fast.
Fortunately I have evaded Covid and have not had it, but my mother got it 2 years ago and still cannot taste or smell AT ALL 😟 I feel so incredibly sad for her and couldn't begin to imagine what people go through that have long lasting effects far after having it.
I sometimes loose my sense of smell with a normal cold. I've never had covid. But my go to is always sniffing vinegar because it's the strongest smelling think I know of. When my former roommate got covid he only noticed when he couldn't smell the candles at his job, then was horrified when he couldn't smell vinegar.
I heard astronauts eat lots of spicy foods since gravity in outer space makes it similar to having a cold so you can't smell / taste as much. Maybe spicy foods could work for you as well! I know it's a different situation but I hope it helps
It’s unfortunately a very different situation. The loss of taste and smell with covid is neurological (the nerves start working incorrectly) not physical like with a cold (getting stuffed up and blocking smells). You would be able to feel the sensation of spice though, just not the smell/flavor.
Last weekend, I was so happy because I could at last be in the sitting room, and smell food cooking in the kitchen. Hope that as taste and smell are now returning they return quickly. The way in which you describe foods is wonderful, and we want you to be back to your exceptional tasting soon.
Covid didn't affect my taste, but anything with vinegar in it smelled like bleach...it was so bizarre and horrible. I came to realise a lot of sauces had vinegar in them because of this. Thankfully my smell reverted to normal after about 2 weeks.
I can sense your frustration in not being able to smell or taste. I felt that way for months too. It was hard. You truly don’t realize what you take for granted until you lose it. Smell & taste are such integral parts of being alive.
my sense of smell took about a month, maybe 5 weeks, to fully return. The loss of said smell was surprisingly sudden, but regaining it was gradual. My experience was also a bit different in general - I never lost the ability to taste meats, especially smoked ones. The flavor of most fruits was also unaffected. But dairy and grain-derived stuff (like bread) either had no flavor or tasted offensively *wrong*. I also oftentimes had a sort of bitter aftertaste in the back of my mind for a week or two in the beginning. I likened it to a 'ghost limb', just with different sensory neurons.
That’s how long it took mine to come back! Fourteen days. 😭 it was definitely miserable. I didn’t even WANT to eat because everything was blah. The first flavor I was able to taste was cherry! I had cherry cough drops. Do you remember the first flavor or food you tasted again after Covid?
Oh no!! I feel so bad for you! Had covid two times so far and luckily nothing. Not even fever more than 2 days. But as being from Finland, I would love to see you taste more Salmiakki! That is something I just love. Have been eating it since I remember and it is just

Sorry, this didn’t work! Tik tok is really becoming the 5-minute crafts of social media platforms - so much misinformation, it’s sad honestly. Hope you and your family feel better soon!
TikTok creators planning these "cures" and other content: How do I make people do random stuff?
Hey not to be a dick, but this isn't a tiktok idea, this is a Jamaican remedy and had been around far longer than the app, she just did it wrong in both iterations because unfortunately, as you said, there is misinformation
@@pillkink Yeah, she should've drank American remedy called snake oil instead. Just gotta get the "real" stuff and it will work for sure, and if it doesn't then she got the wrong stuff because misinformation. /s
Its mean to give covid sufferers hope in that way.

Im so sorry you are goinn through this Emmy! Your videos bring so many people so much joy and you are just so lovely and educational. Thank you for that. I love watching your videos and your voice is also very soothing haha. I wish you a very speedy recovery.
Hey Emmy, I and I think many others would be really interested in a thorough video covering how you clean all your pots/pans/wood/cookware!
Cast iron for sure !!
@@kaylaklover I think she's already done a vid about cast iron, but it'd still be cool for her to include it in an all encompassing vid so people have one reference to look to. (Sidenote: i am a dummy when it comes to cast iron 👀)
Here's the cast iron video: ruclips.net/video/digNELTRIbY/видео.html.
Agreed!
My taste and smell came back after a couple months. Smelling vinegar and garlic helped. Also I'd try cinnamon, anything with a strong smell will get your process going.
I used fish sauce lol. Worked like a charm.
MONTHS?? Omg I knew about the loss of smell but I figured it was just for the duration of severe Covid symptoms, or at least no longer than you’d usually have something like a bad cold, 2-3 weeks tops 😧 had no idea it lasted so long
@@sarahmcdonough7713 it can even last longer than a few months, my sisters smell & taste have been gone for over a year😭
Strong and familiar smells are important from what I heard. So like cinnamon for example: your brain knows what it’s SUPPOSED to smell like, so it’s easier for the body to remember.
none of these would help, just pseudo. the only thing you can do is wait.
mine came back in a week.
2 years later and I still struggle. I lost weight, and got so depressed. The loss if senses is beyond horrible
I feel you. My sense of smell comes back for a couple of minutes randomly, but it’s been like this for over 6 months.
more than 3 years now and I dont think its coming back. solidarity, man, im sorry.
i’m so sorry to all of y’all. that long term loss is devastating
One year parosmia because of COVID. 😭
FYI in Korea, especially in the Jeju Island area, we grill and char our oranges and tangerines to bring out more of the sweetness.
Cool fun fact.
It was so much more depressing than I ever could have expected to not be able to smell and taste for so long. It took a year for my senses to go back to normal but even now, some things don't smell the same anymore and I don't think they ever will
Parosmia? How bad was it?
Some people found taking mushrooms caused their sense of smell to return mid trip. It makes sense given the way it interacts with the brain, might be worth trying if you're desperate.
@@lewisreed8415 whoa I've never heard of that, worth a try!
No. Not being able to smell your childrens heads is just cruel. That's not okay. 😭😭😭
i don’t have children but my mom always sniffs my head super hard when i visit lol so i can imagine it would be awful :(
•_•
Not being able to smell my son would have been a feature not a bug!😂 Boys just smell weird.
Another promising procedure is a stellate ganglion block with a fast-acting local anesthetic like lidocaine.
@@heartdyedpurple that sounds like the way you would CAUSE the problem
I agree! Barkeep's Friends is a terrific solution for scalded/ blackened pans.I am so happy to learn your sense of smell and taste have returned. What a relief!
This may sound strange but I loved the sound of the knife cutting the burnt orange. Hoping & praying your sense of taste & smell returns quickly!
I use Bar Keepers Friend when I use my instant pot . It cleans it so well . That stuff is gold !!
I'm sorry to tell you that it simply doesn't work that way. Your sister was just slowly getting better, regardless of your methods.
I just today got my sense of smell back after covid and I've never been so aware of how wonderful air smells. Keep the faith Emmy!
How long did it take?
Thank you, and I'm so sorry for your loss. 🧡
Thrilled to see your Common Ground Fair t-shirt! My family and I go every year. Best little country fair ever. Hello Emmy from eastern coastal Maine! ❤️
Emmy is from Rhode Island but she likes to travel
Why eat the orange then? If it's just concentrating the orange smell then you'd get far more from just buying orange oil and huffing it, right?
That's pretty much what I did.
I'm going to start smelling things now, the over simplified way you said to lol. Thanks for the advice!
glad your family is feeling better. when I got COVID last year I lost senses. they don't feel like they have been the same since. wishing you the best. still enjoying your videos
We ended up getting a supplement called L-arginine. Everything I ate tasted like salt. My cousin said citrus tasted like dirt. This stuff worked well for the both of us.
It also helps with sexual function! Great stuff
that's just an amino acid, you should already be getting it from any source of protein
emmy! you and your family are sick with covid and you're making such fun, positive and hopeful videos. what a relief that your senses are returning! i hope you've been able to take plenty of care of yourself off camera
I hope both senses return to you in full and swiftly.
I hope you regain your sense of smell soon, that has to be difficult. Good to hear your family is making a recovery
I love you so much, you’re revolutionary! I hope this year treats you and your family better
I hope you and your family have a full recovery soon!!! Best wishes
Thank you. 🧡
Oh, no. That's just terrible. I hope your's eventually comes back.
@@HappyGnoux Thanks, I will check it out.
Best!
Love you Emmy, glad you're doing better.
Any gimmick that's not dangerous is worth a try, the placebo effect, while not reliable can be amazing.
I regained my sense of taste and smell the next day after I did the burnt orange trick. Loss of those senses was the worst of my COVID symptoms, thankfully.
I am so glad I watched this. I have had no smell/taste since March 4th because of covid. I am so hopeful! Your videos are just a joy.
My son caught COVID over 2 years ago, and hasn't recovered those senses, either. He's kind of resigned now.

Why does every thing Emmy cook look so delicious? lol Burnt orange - looks delicious
Yes I'm sure that smelling things and saying them out loud miraculously cured your sense of smell...
@@No_Lucks_Given I mean, you say that but smell training is a thing 🤷♀️
Bodies are weird and they do dumb weird things sometimes.
I also knew someone who was born without the ability to smell, but she was able to taste food without a problem.
I remember when vaccination meant you did not get infected, nor any symptoms and definitely not infecting others.
my orange allergy is SCREAMING right now. i would kill to eat even a charred orange :( i'm so sorry you've lost your sense of taste and smell. the fact that you have remained so positive is something you should be proud of. i love your videos, and can't wait until you're back to normal!

I lost my senses also when I had COVID. Life was not enjoyable at all. So glad they came back a month later. Just keep at it Emmy.
i have to wait a whole month? :((
@@guguigugu it can take up to two years but generally it comes back within 6 months. I lost mine for about two weeks. I just kept smelling things i knew smelled strong. One day i caught a wiff of my body spray. And it slowly came back after that, but everything was kinda muted for a month. It's been just over a month now and my smell is totally back now.

Orange was the first thing my other half and I were able to smell and taste after we got covid. Maybe it's more to do with oranges in general? Maybe the oils and heating it enhances it?
Good luck with your and your family’s recovery! May you all find good health
Well, I'm right there with you. I apparently do not have covid but for the last week I haven't been able to taste or smell anything either.
I lost my sense of smell and taste several days before I tested positive. That was a year ago this month. I'm just now getting them back. I'm just thankful I am getting them back. It also had made appreciate my senses so much more.
Sending prayers and good wishes to you, dear Emmy.
Nurses at my local hospital told people to keep tasting hot sauce. The idea is that if your force your taste buds to react to strong flavors that the recovery time is shortened.
Sounds like iZombie
Force yourself to smell strong scents , like candles, deodorants, garlic, onions, etc. I did this and got back my sense of taste and smell very fast!
Yep, everyday I've sniffed essential oils, deodorant, pantry staples, etc. That's how I've been able to gauge improvement.
LOVE YOU! hoping for a speedy smell and taste recovery!!!!!!!!!!!!! Regardless, I will always enjoy your content, no matter what you decide to do!
One of the strangest titles ever and I love it.
I'm going to have to have my Mom try this, she hasn't had her sense of smell and very little taste in almost 2 years now 😓

I know someone who lost their taste and smell for months and doctor put him in some kind of treatment. It did come back
I love that the fully burned orange looks like a cannon ball

I’m so glad your sense of taste and smell are coming back!
Recently had Covid for the first time and I also lost my smell and taste 😩
It was very distressing and I was scared I would be one of those who never recovered!
It took 3, 4 weeks before they came back!
Have patience sweetie! It'll come back, it took about 3 months for mine to come back after covid! It's really irritating!!!
I love the Common Ground Fair t-shirt! I went for the first time this past year. My family is from Unity and I've been going there for the summer every year that I can remember. Good choice with the swiss chard shirt!
I lost smell.. used my neti pot twice a day (for a couple of days) and mine came back. worth a shot?

Poor Emmy!! I had parasomia for a whole year! Still can't eat beef, but everything else came back! Please be patient, it might take a while ❤️
Covid didn't affect my taste, but anything with vinegar in it smelled like bleach...it was so bizarre and horrible.
My tatse and smell came make after a couple of weeks. I will never take it for granted again 😅
