Incredible GIANT Sculptures in GIBBS FARM, New Zealand

- On and off for two years we've been looking to get some tickets to the famous Gibbs Farm. Each month Gibbs Farm is opened to a limited number of people to visit for free therefore it always books out super quickly but randomly one day we somehow managed to score ourselves some tickets. They were for a time slot 2 months in advance, but when you've waited 2 years, two more months is nothing really :)
It was definitely worth the wait though. We knew the sculptures were going to be big, but nothing prepared us for just how massive and impressive they actually were, especially when we walked up close to view each artwork.
The incredible piece of land that overlooks the Kaipara Harbour belongs to Alan Gibbs (an art collector, entrepreneur and businessman). He commissioned most of the artworks to be created for Gibbs Farm. Challenging the artists and often working with them to create something magnificent to be displayed on the vast landscape.
The gigantic sculptures from world famous artists are peppered all over Gibbs Farm. We were given an information booklet on arrival then left to explore the place on our own. There were even giraffes, zebras, ostriches, emus, yaks, highland cows, tons of free roaming alpacas and even a bison that we saw there!
We spent the entirety of the 4 hour open session at Gibbs Farm as it's a huge amount of land to cover on foot and if you love art and sculptures, it's definitely a must see. We even got a lucky ride from Keanau who works there :)
If you want to visit Gibbs Farm, you need to keep a vigilant eye on the visitor dates listed on their website: bookings.gibbs...
After visiting the sculpture collection, we went to get a late lunch/early dinner at KL Cafe out in West Auckland. Delicious Malaysian food in a casual setting, it was a fantastic way to end an awesome day. They even bake their own cakes too!

WOW totally forgot you guys were going here. I've been wanting to go here ever since I heard about it a few years ago. Like Peter I always thought the Dismemberment sculpture looked like a giant musical instrument but can see it is a muscle/tendon now. Thanks Yen. Even more excited now to visit here after seeing your awesome video.

Our friend Carl from Santos Chronicles would love this so much. He drives around the Midwest to look for this gigantic sculptures, but nothing compares to the size of these. As an artist, it has to be some fun to imagine placing any kind of crazy sculpture in nature. Even better being able to take this tour for free. Nice choice of lunch. We're also eating noodles as we watch. Haha Have a great week guys.
Mmmmmmm noodles 🍜 😋 sculptures are so cool. I imagine that in the future generations these structures will still be there will people wonder about them like how we wonder about stone henge 🤔
After viewing this video numerous times i have come to the realization that "i want to secretly live here" - i know iv'e said this before but i think i really mean it this time, lol. I really love this farm & it's taking me every ounce of strength not to blurt out all the good thing's i feel about this place, otherwise you'll never hear the end of it - except, Peter & Yen, thank you for making me aware of the existence of Gibbs Farm. - Two things before i sign off....1st. - Yen i agree, when i first saw Neil Dawson's 'Horizon' i immediately thought of a discarded tissue. & 2nd. - from what i saw (so far) i think i like the 'Floating Island Of Immortals'. Hahaha this is a place you could probably totally secretly live in Tooks! The farm was just huge! Lol blurt away! We'd love to hear what you think of it 😁💕👍 It's just incredible that it exists here. There's an amazing piece called Electrum that's on Alan Gibbs' private property (so at that farm but like where his house is) and it's crazy! You can check it out in their website for the video doco if you're interested but it's essentially a giant engineering structure that can create lightning ⚡⚡ So amazing 😱

It's such an incredible and unique sculpture park! So hard to visit as it rarely opens to the public but when it does, it's very worth visiting 🙂🙂

Hey Peter and Yen!! So cool that you're taking us to this Farm today. Crazy it's only open a couple times a month for visitors. The Sculpture walk was so amazing to see... we would have been so excited to see a real Giraffe!! It's amazing the Farm Owner is an art collector. He has some beautiful sculptures. 990 Acres of land is no freaking joke!! At 5:04... that pice looks like hand drawn in, and so surreal looking!! That is definitely one of our favorites too! :)
It was super busy on the day we went, yen n I were shocked by the amount of people and also by how much cool stuff there was to see. Made for an awesome day out 😊✌

Awwww... the Alpacas... so cute!! We would have fun zipping around in the cart. Wait??? The cost to get in is FREE!?! That's amazing that Gibbs Farm opens up like that. What a fabulous place. Ooh .. it really does look like stretched muscle fibers and I think Horizons is our favorite too -- the movement is captured so well. Also a FREE ticket?! Wow this place has so many cute animals, beautiful sculptures too, thanks to Alan Gibbs! The farm is huge so yeah that ride is super helpful. Taste of Wok Hei is definitely really appealing, looks tasty guys! and that green chili is our FAV add on!

Ufc is like that though... just can't stay the top for ever. Eventually some young dude will replace you in spectacular fashion. The biggest shock was watching silva vs weidman. so i actually live like 5 minutes away from gibbs farm,i can see half the sculptures from my living room and i have been here around 15 times, its a really cool place to be and visit!

I live to the south of Gibbs farm and can see some of these sculptures from my house.
He has had some excellent fireworks displays over the years that were far better than the commercial ones that are put on in Auckland

Wow that's so cool it's zoo animals on a farm. The sculptures are gigantic! Look incredible! hahah they are really cute with the hair in their face. LOL i get that AOT vibe too now that you mention it hahaha. So amazing to see all the animals together. "let's go" haha mad way to get around! I guess you can't fly a drone around there? so many things to fly through haha.
The place is awesome, we later found out from Keanu that it is actually registered as a zoo hence all the animals. AOT! Episode two out today cheeeehoooo

Loved this episode. My favourite sculpture was the silver metal one that looked like a gigantic silver New Zealander fern. I hope to be able to visit Gibbs Farm. Oh and the noodle dishes at the Malaysian restaurant looked yummy.

6:35 This is "Te Tuhirangi Contour" by Richard Serra . It is a solid steel construct with a rust finish.
The sheep have left a line of lanolin around the lower part of it where they lean against it to get warm on cold days. The steel absorbs heat from the sun.
I was lucky enough to get tickets to go via a charity event. It's incredible and I loved it. Great for photography. Also as a tip to anyone going there is a smaller but also interesting sculpture garden nearby too...the Kaipara Coast Plant & sculpture garden (with a cafe).

The sculpture at 5:31 reminds of the Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavik, or at least from the angle you're filming it.
(btw: if overseas travel ever happens again, you should definitely go and explore Iceland)

My wife said it’s not easy to get tickets! (She is from New Zealand 🇳🇿) we drove by it on our way up to northland

What time it s closed?
I believe it's at 2pm.. it's a private property and only so rarely opened to the public so it's not a full day opening from memory :) if you do get a chance to go, definitely be there at its opening time as it's a lot of ground to cover!

Hi Manpreet, the owner chooses when he wants to open his place to the public so the only way to get the booking is to just keep an eye on the website for when tickets become available... That's why it's so difficult to be able to visit unfortunately. We wish you luck in being able to go one day 🍀🍀
