Thanks for the review. I own both and I find the two very close. However, wide open, I find the Fujifilm a tad sharper. I just did a shoot for VOGUE and we used the Viltrox 33mm f/1.4 for the whole video, except for the gimbal shots, where we used the 18-55 Fujifilm. All the stills for VOGUE were done with the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4. Coming out in October for the November Issue of VOGUE China.

Thanks for the review Damian, I had ordered the lens from aliexpress a few months ago but I had to cancel the order because it wasn't delivered in a 2 months time....which one you think it's better at wide apertures, let's say from 1.4 to 2.8, this or the fujifilm 35mm 1.4? Especially in terms of sharpenss....

Prior to Fujifilm X gear (from 2013) I shot with Nikon gear, and prior to that my first ILC digital camera was a Fujifilm S2Pro... prior to that medium format and 35mm film.

Hi Kenny. I should think so absolutely. Likely a tad slower but I'd be confident that they will work fine
With my sony a6000, I ran with the sigma 30mm and 56, which instill have. Now with my xt3, I have the 56 and was thinking this 33 or 23 next. I think I shouldn't mess with what I usually ran with cause it's like all I needed for a wedding plus my wide 12mm for both cameras. I might stick with 33. Plus it has a firmware update and fuji has a firmware update in a week.

I bought this lens when it was released.
General thought:
1. It's soooo smooth when focusing manually but easy to accidentally turn it.
2. It's sharp wide open but flares very easily.
3. The latest firmware still hasn't fixed the snapping autofocus in video mode, atleast in my X-T2. It's accurate but quite jarring.
4. The close focus is too far in my opinion. Can't use it as my only lens for wedding shoot.

There’s was another (second) firmware update not that long ago. It seems to have done the trick for my XH1.

Which is more versatile, allaround lens? The 23mm 1.4 or the 33mm 1.4. Thanks.
All depends on what you need and prefer, two different focal lengths so there's no definitive answer. The 23mm might be the one I'd choose over the two if I could only choose one lens.

Have you tried v2 of these viltrox lenses.
Not of this one. I believe it was just to sort the mount fitting with the Pro3, something like that.
Just bought the Viltrox 33mm and I find the focus not to be very quite when I compare it to the 23mm? Is this the case? Or do I have a bad copy?

I haven't tried them side by side by the Viltrox is probably my favourite of the two

Yes, all x mount lenses work on fujifilm x mount cameras.
Shame about the fringing, I suspect it will suffer from astigmatism and coma too, I like all my lenses to be night sky capable too as I shoot a lot of that, oddly the Fuji's are great sensors for that as the IR filter is quite weak, hey ho, adapted lenses it will have to be

What would choose between Viltrox 33 mm 1.4 and Fuji xf 35 mm f 2?
Now that's a question... I guess forgetting the slight difference in focal length, I can live with that, I am a sucker for extra light so maybe I'll stick with my 33 BUT the 35 f2 has a lot going for it, it's size for example. Hmm as much as I use the Viltrox 33mm, I am struggling to say for sure which I'd get. I guess aperture is the thing that keeps coming back to mind for me...

Hola Marcelo. The lens doesn't have stabilisation no but it does have Auto mode.

Damian, another excellent review. Have something of an orphan gen 1, Sony A7R body and am looking for reasonably priced glass for it's great sensor. Wishing to purchase an AF lens for portraits. Do you know if Viltrox or Samyang have plans, or already make an AF 85 for Sony FF. Not intending to derail your video.
Robert Cudlipp the current xf 85mm is also on Sony E mount and covers full frame. There are Sony version reviews out there

My viltrox 33mm on both my Fuji xe3 and xt1 is very noisy and hunts a lot! I either need to try updating the firmware, or the deliveryman had thrown it about!

@@DamianBrown good news! After taking it out today it seems to lens is working fine, AF is definitely fast and the autofocus noises I'm hearing are normal! :)

I can't get the command dial on my x-e3 to control the aperture...
@@andyjs277 unfortunately it broke shortly after I received it! Took a fall from around knee height attached to my XT1 and came clean off the mount. From what I recall mine did work perfectly on the EX3 so no idea what could be causing your problem. Unless it's not firmly attached to the mount so the connectors match up?

Depends the camera, but I control the aperture in video shooting via the front dial and in stills shooting I prefer the physical ring
I realise this is 3 years late, but I just bought one for my x-e3, I can't control the aperture from the command dial on the camera, but I've seen other people who can... not sure what's wrong

True, I don't compare them personally. For example this one also is my zoom lens at the moment, that wouldn't be quite as easy with a manual focus lens :)
