- Brompton Cemetery (originally the West of London and Westminster Cemetery)is a London cemetery, managed by The Royal Parks, in West Brompton in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is one of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries. Established by Act of Parliament and laid out in 1839, it opened in 1840, originally as the West of London and Westminster Cemetery. Consecrated by Charles James Blomfield, Bishop of London, in June 1840, it is one of Britain's oldest and most distinguished garden cemeteries. Some 35,000 monuments, from simple headstones to substantial mausolea, mark more than 205,000 resting places. The site includes large plots for family mausolea, and common graves where coffins are piled deep into the earth. It also has a small columbarium, and a secluded Garden of Remembrance at the northern end for cremated remains. The cemetery continues to be open for burials. It is also known as an urban haven for nature.

Thanks Julie I enjoyed this walk
This cemetery is super cool 😎, and super huge! The headstones, mausoleums, monuments are beautiful! I wonder if, because the cemetery is so huge, 🤔 the cemetery management cannot afford a large enough grounds crew department to keep it up, hence the overgrowth. Thank you very much GV, for a wonderful walking tour, and for sending me the link for this video. Take care.
Good question! That I'm not sure of
@Grave Visitations Thank you very much for getting back to me GV. I hope the cemetery management does something, before Brompton cemetery gets as bad as Highgate cemetery.
Thank you again GV, have a great day.
@@michaelbedinger4121 it's probably better for nature etc
@Grave Visitations It probably is, unfortunately, it makes what you and Sue do just a little bit more difficult at times.

@@ritafirestone761 so are you from the area?
My grandparents were 1st generation in the US. They immigrated here from Wales, Scotland, Ireland and England. But during the wars family served in areas around the world.

Good morning Irish eyes I’ve been to Brompton but never to the cemetery beautiful video x
Morning catrina it's grave Visitations now 😂
@@GraveVisitations aww sure lol
beautiful video! i was interested in the "Egyptologist" charlatan....around the turn of the last century Egypt was all the rage, with Cooks Tours carrying the less wealthy up and down the Nile, while the well to do rode in their own boats called Dahabeeyas, a most civilized means of travel if one had the money. Egyptian treasures were bought and sold on the black market and were carried back to Europe and America, where mummy unwrapping parties were popular. Ramesses 1 was found in a small museum in Niagra Falls in Canada after 140 years, and was returned to Egypt in 2003. He was greeted by a bagpipe band wearing sand colored plaid kilts playing Yankee Doodle Dandy rather badly....
It was popular among the wealthy visitors to hire an archeologist (a fledgling science) to do a bit of digging; one talented and fairly ethical archeologist was Howard Carter, who was hired by Lord Carnarvon to scratch around in The Valley Of The Kings, that ancient cemetery of mostly robbed tombs. well, Carter stumbled upon none other than Tutankhamun, Nefertiti's son in law, who married his half sister etc, etc.....Carnarvon died from a septic mosquito bite, or the Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb, or perhaps he looked into the future and croaked when he caught an episode of Downton Abbey, filmed in his ancestral home, Highclere Castle (i actually like the show, even if he didn't)
Thanks hunter for the history lesson 😁
@@GraveVisitations i really did like that graveyard, such beautiful tombs, and the catacombs were fascinating. until now i haven't been able to look at graves, still can not see children's graves since the shooting at the school in Uvalde, in Texas where i grew up. i missed you and Serenity Sue, though

The markers by the cannon area looked like people standing around the cross. It is quite touching
Thanks for this it's an amazing place you could spend days going around. It's a pity you didn't get to the catacombs but I suspose with the Jubilee maybe that's why it was closed. All the more reason to go back again. I've never been would love to visit some day. Take care.

Extraordinary artwork by Edward Burne-Jones

Noticed the hand bell 🔔 on that shelf in the catacomb. Wonder if it was for the dead ? Wow!
I'd imagine it would be used by the tour guide maybe Paul.
very great honor to those who's service and died
I would have love to go inside
Me also
Thank you for the tour of this lovely cemetery. How old are those ornate coffins in the catacombs? Thank you.
They date back to the early 1800's
Appreciate the reply!
Hope you are feeling better my Grammies. GV I liked on my way into
Hi Mary thank you
Fitch's made and sold writing paper and envelopes etc. A Stationer one whom deals in stationery. Or handles writing for a firm or company. So said company may correspond with clients.
I got a spirit Voice evp at that grave
Just no words !!! Lovely it would take days to discover all the hiding wonders of this cemetery 🪦🪦🪦🪦♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Sorry I missed u liv
It was a premiere not live mandy
What a beautiful place.
So..at 37:28ish you captured a whispered EVP.
Sounded like something something find me..
Not sure but sure about it being an EVP.
Hi Steve thanks for that. I do seem to pick up evps alot on my videos
We get some really great ones too.We live in Saline Michigan but we watch a lot of your work since my wife Sharon is Irish decent. While this place is in England it's still quite grand.
Had to fix the time...sorry.
@@stevewilliams788 just heard it. Woman says help me please help me
@@GraveVisitations we are always listening for evps.
My wife is really good at catching them.
Get a locksmith. Open that up for you right away. That's an old lock. Not complicated like today's keys. Be interesting to see if the inside is designed like a time machine? Is she in there at all? If not, we know it works! Check up on that one? It is a good idea to check in on all these vaults and tombs. If a coffin has decayed away people could break in and take the bones and valuables. Animals go in there and take the bones. All these cemeteries need to be looked after. Looks as thought they leave them to ruin? God Bless you!
Not sure who has key. I was just in London for few days so I wouldn't be in that area. Its interesting tho. Thanks for watching x
That must have been a mass grave
Which grave?
Bronze doors no doubt wealthy people at the time
if you follow the right way, Muslim cemeteries are not like that....he has Jawi writing..but his cemeteries are written for Muslims
Who?
@@GraveVisitations if you want to know what kind of Muslim cemetery there is near the video link, just look at it, it's just a Muslim cemetery...ruclips.net/video/v5G4jhmzbHY/видео.html
This is London I'm in this cemetery
do you have to pay a kid to come mow your grave
I don't understand your question?
