I just watched this and around 8-10 more on the same subject. Though this one leaves me wanting to know a lot more about sailing into the wind, it is by far the best out of the videos I found on sailing. The others didn't teach much at all, they just showed some one sailing and saying (not explaining) what they were doing. Explaining is what is crucial for learning quickly.
Going on a sailing cource today (this will help sooo much) as a younger person it is differcult to get all the points and fully undrstand, ive been sailing for 2 years and this will really help me to get much better at sailing
@@sailaboattv instantly fell in love with the sport! I have had the CL code 40 boat for 1 year now and can not wait to get out this season, i live in Canada and am planning a trip from Hamilton Ontario, to Toronto Ontario as a fun day trip. Would love to see some more, updated videos of yours.
Mussawar Ahmad that’s great to hear. Hope you manage to get out sailing soon . In the UK we are all locked out of sailing for the time being. There is a book to accompany the videos. Just search learn to sail by Tim Hore on Amazon and you should find it
Nicely done. I learned a few things. I have pretty good Rs Quest dinghy sailing experience and J24 and this video is pretty useful Thanks for making it
Great videos thanks! Out of interest, what difference will the centreboard make having it 3/4 up on a training run vs down? During training years ago I always forgot this rule and the centreboard stayed down the entire trip. Cheers
Thanks Ted. It depends on how fast you are going. When on a training run there is less sideways pressure as the force of the sail goes more to the front. This means less centreboard is needed. This means less drag. The boat will sail better with the centreboard raised when on a run. Hope that helps!
I bought a sunfish for $400 years ago and learned it with no help. I still don't understand all the sailing lingo. I'm that dude that says left and right, or forward or sideways. I call my lines the "sail lifting line" and the "sail pulling line." But, I'm picking up some good knowledge from this video. Any tips to help me sail better and faster are appreciated. And to be honest, I don't want to learn proper sailing terminology; I think it makes some of these people sound like pretentious assholes. I'll stick with being the "cousin Eddie" of sailors. Have fun fellow wind catching water vehicle dudes!
Glad we are helping. There are no rules that say you have to learn the lingo. Just get out there and have fun. We have to use the lingo to be on standard. Good luck Cousin Eddie! Sunfish is a good boat to play in
10:43 - Whats going on there? In either shot the Jib is backed? Not a good thing to show in a training video without mentioning it. People learning are just feeling their way. That image is wrong and should be held up as such. Other than that Good stuff. Luv and Peace.
Thanks for your comment. You are mistaken the Jib is not backed here. The sunlight on the sail may make you think this but it most definitely was not backed at that point
Thank you for all your helpful comments on why not say this or that. The videos are aimed at newbies who get confused. We went for a language that they could understand. You clearly are more experienced where different terms could be used. Thanks for watching

What is the boat at 0:35 called?
The boat at this point is a standard Laser.
Are helmets used ever?
You can use canoe type helmets. Most people don’t but some do. Nothing wrong with extra safety

@@sailaboattv You're right.
The sun was shadowing the sail.
My bad.
I was going to buy a gym membership instead I´m buying a sailboat much better ab workout.
It can be! And it’s a great exercise on windy days
I need in tamil
The sails flapping,
Shouldn’t you say luffing?

@@sailaboattv that’s true. The new lot will take a bit to figure it out.
The word is disoriented. Disorientated does not exist. It is totally incorrect.
