  • Clips of GM Angel Cabales of Serrada Eskrima.
Born in the Philippines in 1917, Cabales moved to the United States in the late part of 1939. He is acknowledged as the Father of Eskrima in the United States. Angel Cabales was the first to open a school (Stockton, CA) that taught the art of Eskrima to both Filipino and non-Filipino students.
Cabales met a man named Feliscimo Dizon on the docks of Manila. Dizon taught Cabales the stick fighting skills. They trained together on a daily basis with a round kamagong, dagger and empty-hands. Cabales trained hard and became fluent in the many aspects of the system. Through many traveling experiences he made his home in Stockton, CA. In 1966 he decided to teach the Serrada art to the general public. He always enjoyed sharing his many stick-fighting adventures through his rough life in the Philippines and United States.-- Resource from www.usadojo.com...

A Special Note From JW Networks:

March 3,1991, is the day that Great Grandmaster Guru Angel Cabales passed away in Stockton, California.
As a special tribute to the Great Grandmaster Guru, on this day March 3, 2019, we here at JW Networks,
want to share a very special excerpt story with our viewership about one of the exploits of the legendary
'Serrada Escrimador' Great Grandmaster Guru Angel Cabales.
"If They Don't Hit Me, I Hit Them"
    ----------------------------------------------------
This is an actual statement made directly to Maha Guru SGMD, by Great Grandmaster Guru Angel Cabales.
According to Maha Guru SGMD, when Angel Cabales made this statement to him, he was referring to one of his many past combative encounters that took place in the Philippines. The story goes like this; One day while Angel was on ship leave in the central part of the Philippines, he went to go visit a very pretty young woman that he had previously met before.

As Angel approached the village where this woman lived, he was met by some of the men of the village who told him that the "Shaman" of their village had forbidden any outsiders to mingle in any way with the young women of the village.
These same men explained to Angel, that the Shaman had great magical powers & had already used his magical powers
to kill two prior suiter's. "Well! said Angel to Maha Guru SGMD, I've never believed in magic, and I wasn't going to let a
'tall-tale' stand in my way from me seeing my girlfriend."
"So as I walked up the pathway leading to the village entrance way, I was met halfway by the village Shaman, who warned me that if my intentions are to see any of the young women in his village, then as an outsider, he would have to kill me by using his magical powers. After this statement was made, I instantly whipped out my kamagong (iron wooden stick) & speedily cracked the Shaman over the head with it, which instantly knocked the Shaman out cold. The Shaman was ko-d before he could even touch the ground."

"As the Shaman lay on the ground straddled & knocked out, I then asked him, how come your magical powers couldn't block my stick".
Note: This story is an excerpt taken out of Maha Guru SGMD's upcoming new book titled:
    'CABALES SERRADA ESCRIMA: My Story'

It’s called flow. To practice the movements. These were not them attacking each other.
