- Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri is the principal author of RA 9850 which declares Arnis as the national martial art and sport of the Philippines. He also holds the rank of a black belt in Arnis and has been a WEKAF World Champion.
He currently holds the position of President and Chairman of the Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation, an organisation that aims to uplift the status of Arnis through inclusion in international events such as the South East Asian Games.

Kali is practised in Mindanao by Royals, esp Sultans and Datus for centuries before Magellan landed in Cebu, the Princes had the best teachers employed, some from overseas, Malaysia & Indonesia included, the Sultans can have as much as 5000 men in their navy

To comment on what Sen Zubiri said about unifying the rules of competition,in the rules governing "live stick (Full Contact)" is about volume of strikes (paramihan ng palo) and aggressivenes (one who attacks and goes forward is judged to the better than one who disengages).
-----The reason why i said this was that i see in competition, arnis practitioners just flailing away even disregarding defense just to win the round (volume of strikes and aggressiveness). My idea is how about a "Labanan" rules just like in judo that when a one is cleanly HIT on the head, automatically the match is finished (an IPPON or Full Point in Judo). If hit on other parts of the body is Half Point and the fight continous for about same nr of minutes (2 or 3 min rounds). Something to think about in the future in our continuing advocacy for ARNIS to be included in the SEA Games as a Permanent Sport, in the ASIAN Games and if luck smiles, the Olympics (we can always hope).

PUGAY!!!! ako rin po ay isang practitioner ng Kali Arnis Eskrima with the same style with senator Migs which is KALI ILLUSTRISIMO under sa supervision ng aming Master na si Master Muloy Romo at ang aming Grand Master Yuli Romo proud kami that we are in the same system pero tama ang sinabi ni senator na ang ARNIS KALI ESKRIMA is one of the most lethal combative martial arts na halos lahat ng special forces ito ang pinag aaral, sana ma-interview nyu dun yung aming grand master dahil marami rin syang ma-se share sa system naman ng KALI ILLUSTRISMO
