This takes me back to the glory days of when I had my gamecube, and this song played at the Lucasarts logo in "Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike". Also seeing Darth Vader dance to this on the Death Star was pretty amusing too :3. Ah the nostalgia
Yes, this song "Star Wars Theme" is done by Meco, hit #1 in the good ole USA in the summer of 1977. I have it on 45's, tape, CD and I never get tired of this tune.
I'm not a fan of disco but this this some brilliant piece of work. For those of you posting negative comments, glad this piece was not only worth your time to watch but your time to write about it as well.
OMG this is great! I had not heard this song since I was in high school back in the day! And for you youngsters, that means the 70's yo! Heh heh heh, Meco rocked.
God I remember this when it came out. I got it as a gift as a kid and rarely listened to it. Played the Star Wars soundtrack album a million times though.
I remember this one I would only be 5 or 6 but was amazing and still is. This must be the most recognised theme in Hollywood history I recently bought the original Star Wars soundtrack and it still sounds as amazing as it did George Lucas and John Williams are legendary...... As are The Catina band on Mos Eisley 😊😊😊😊😜
Use to have this LP. and i had the fun of dancing to it many times out there on the disco floor. Oh what happened to all the fun? Star wars is one of my favorite films of all time.
This is the first time I've heard this funk version! It grows on you & makes you want to get up & do some disco dancing! Also, excellent video & music coordination; it flowed perfectly from beginning to end! LOL.... " I FIND YOUR LACK OF FUNK, DISTURBING!" I've discovered something new today in the Starwars world. To the Creator, Thank You!!!!
This is so funny. Star Wars meets the hunger for disco. I remember when the shorter version of this was a big hit on the radio, and our junior high dances..It's schlocky, but really captures the spirit...its anthemic.
originally, during production of the first movie, George Lucas' original soundtrack idea was using electronic sounds because it being a sci-fi film and the discount era, it was Steven Spielberg who talked him out of it and recommended John Williams.
Love it, love it, LOVE IT!!!!!! Brought back crazy memeories as a kid. I was listening to this on cassette a few weeks ago and I still love it. MECO rules DISCO!!!!!!!!!
Seems like every disco in town was playing this for years after it came out. Definitely gave me that nostalgic unused brain cell activation dopamine kick.
The 70s and 80s first three films were inspired and inspiring. They were magical. The next 3 prequels were badly acted, badly directed. They were unable to convey magic and inspiration. And the 3 sequels initially seemed to have the required quality, but simething happened between the 1st and 2nd installment that ruined the whole experience. Sad.
I remember this track, when I was kid back in 1970's, when I was watching Battlestar Galatica and Star Wars and Dr Who. STILL GREAT AFTER 30 YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG!!
Thanks a lot for post it DarklFaith!
there is a long medley of meco on Star Wars music that lasts about 15 minutes, something not really usual for instrumentals, but it is worthy to be listended to, it includes about 12 themes.
this song always appears on the end of the forcecasts..i love this song. Sometimes they play it through the end of the song unless they fade out a few mintues after the copyright notice.
Is this the same version they used to play on the radio back in the 70's? I've been looking for this for a long time, but I think I was misspelling the group name as "Mecca". I remember seeing this album in the stores, at places like Sears lol For some reason this version doesn't sound the same as what i remember from the 70's, but then again, that was the last time I heard it too...the 70's. And the old memory ain't what she used to be!! Thanks for posting!
I remember the first time I heard this tune when I was 7, on a 8-track disco compilation, but it was a highly pared down 3 minute version. This version is completely new to me - off I go to p2p to find the full version. :)
@Stretch54449 I don't know any of the terms you guys who are posting use...clone wars, yoog poood, etc. I never saw the movies, but I love the song bc it was so big when I was in high school, and we played it in the band lol.

Couldn’t afford the album as a kid back then. Great to listen to it on RUclips for free!
He used a live orchestra and avoided any dated music. This is one of the reasons why Star Wars was such a classic!
Excellent!!! thanks for posting.
STAR WARS, EPISODE IV, the best science fiction film ever made...
I'm not a fan of disco but this this some brilliant piece of work. For those of you posting negative comments, glad this piece was not only worth your time to watch but your time to write about it as well.

THEY WENT IT TO GLITTER BALL MODE!
Nice work my friend. There's a truly gorgeous vibraphone solo in there. Oooohh!!
This is so funny. Star Wars meets the hunger for disco. I remember when the shorter version of this was a big hit on the radio, and our junior high dances..It's schlocky, but really captures the spirit...its anthemic.
Other galactic funk indeed.I was never quite sure what to do with this album but I see you have found its purpose.Nice.
my two favorite things! Disco and starwars!
originally, during production of the first movie, George Lucas' original soundtrack idea was using electronic sounds because it being a sci-fi film and the discount era, it was Steven Spielberg who talked him out of it and recommended John Williams.

"Star Wars! Nothing but Star Wars! Give me those Star wars! Don't let them leave!"-Nick Winters
This is feakin' awesome! The film clips look a million times better with this soundtrack too! lol
Believe it or not, I still have this album on a 33 LP... I practically wore it out in 77' I was 10 years old...
its like MADE to be disco!! luv it
I love this! The cantina part is bad ass.
My uncle had this on yellow vinyl when i was a kid...I listened to it constanly
You're right, it was. Meco's version went to #1 in Ot. '77, Williams's version peaked at #10 a few months earlier.
Oooh I had to play this version on keyboard. It was so hard, but it was the best song ever to play.
And ofcourse this is a master piece! I love Starwars music. This one is very funky haha, but still the main theme's can be found.
AK
Now I know why John Williams said he liked this song. It stays true to his original music while making it enjoyable for the then mainstream audience.
Awesome! Great Job!!!!!!
I'm so sad I wasn't around for discos, this would have been awesome to hear in a disco.
Awesome job on the vid!!!...May the disco be with you ;)

I remember this track, when I was kid back in 1970's, when I was watching Battlestar Galatica and Star Wars and Dr Who.
STILL GREAT AFTER 30 YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG!!

I love this song, I play it while I'm raiding with my guildies on World of Warcraft!
Excellent video by the way :)

This edit is unusual. I kinda prefer either the really long version, or the single version. Anyway, Meco Monardo is a genius!
GREAT editing!
I know that must have taken a long time.
LOVE THIS! I'm 20 again!
@Stretch54449
