Any time they add incentive to play, pvp is bumpin'. Unfortunately most content in the game dies when there's no reward for doing it. The next time there's an update to the wolves den rewards, or something worth getting on the season track, it'll be busy again until most people finish.
As for ranked -- a large part of the avoidance also comes from old (and current) botters and win trading making the comp scene seem really pointless. There's a reason we still don't have ranked group cc. No idea how they would fix it.

You forgot to mention the hacks, coupled with the fact the communication options don't actually serve you well enough therefore the hacks become even more important. The game runs on 2 cooldowns - Guard and Purify, however there's no way to actually communicate who still has what. There's no call out for " is defenseless" or anything like that. There's no "Watch out for limit break." It's just not enough to communicate the gameplay. This is why people resort to downloading hacks than can auto guard or CC players right as they perform LB. Once you get to diamond/crystal you can be in a 5v5 hectic moshpit, end your guard 2 seconds early and still immediately get polymorphed by a WHM. There will never be anti cheat on this game because SE vowed to never check what's on your PC. But this is already a game where add ons and cheating is baked into the culture so. SHit is fucked
EDIT: remembered a few things too. In overwatch, people ults have global sound effects so players no they're going off in the chaos. Nothing like that exists. There is no color coordinating between ally and enemy stuff either. You see a circle for DRG LB. Is that your drag or their drag? Welp, better scan a list of 10 players to find out - you don't have time. SMN ults, whose? bahamut is that?
Just a lot of lazy shit

I agree with everything but would also add; I would love to be able to have some level of customization to pvp. Whether that’s being able to select different skills, choose armor that may have small effects or maybe even a logos action like in eureka. Just let me be a bit different than everyone else playing the same class I am, other than skill being the only dividing factor

I guess it depends on what it means to fail. I think Crystalline Conflict is very much alive and successful. I enjoy it and still play it. I would like to see more small scale 5v5 style skirmish PVP modes. I don't like large scale PVP, because they're always just zergs.

While there are certainly valid criticisms of the PVP aspect of Final Fantasy XIV, it is important to remember that the game was not originally designed as a combat MMO like other titles in the genre. Despite issues with stun locking and snapshots, the development team has demonstrated their commitment to improving PVP through recent updates and the announcement of a tournament cup. While the core gameplay may be somewhat sluggish, it is still enjoyable and there is potential for further improvement with the potential engine changes in the 7.0 update. Additionally, the lack of incentives and reliance on RNG in modes like Frontlines may be contributing to a lower PVP player base. Improving incentives and adding achievements with season-specific rewards, such as mounts, glamours, and titles, could potentially increase player engagement in PVP. Overall, while there is room for improvement, it is not accurate to say that PVP in Final Fantasy XIV has failed or is failing in the current expansion.
The Bonus Ending: I also miss Shield Swipe. The overall design of Endwalker, with its 2-minute buff window for burst damage, has hurt the class, and is one of many reasons we no longer have Shield Swipe. I would prefer to see Atonement removed and add Shield Swipe + Holy Shelltron Combo, as it would give us more sustained damage over time. or at least add it to PVP, Brother!

I do feel bad for people that take PVP seriously just because it definitely feels like it's missing parts and pieces that would improve the general flow for the player base to dive into. However, I am perfectly content to grind 10 causality tomestones per 2-5 minute CC match while turning off my brain and watching videos on the side until I hit the weekly cap

I think pvp is going in a good direction, sure they could improve a lot of things like making frontline a team vs team battle instead of a 3way match. They could also add more unique rewards to the vendors to incentivize playing more often. Some matches in front lines are just amazing, usually ending with a close score or even a draw, while others are just a one sided stop as the other teams are full of people AFKing on the spawn base or ignoring objectives to go get themselves killed so the match will end quicker. CC is just raw fun, specially with the new map, luring and stun locking people into the flipping tiles is a lot of fun. Same with going full retard and falling for my own trap :(!

i kinda like ff14 but i fucking HATE this delay shit, in pve and also in pvp, specially pvp.
also i think the healing is way too strong, it should be only like 2 heals maybe or 50%less heaing or something like that.
also damage should stop sprint, and ppl should have more slowing abilitys, its kinda dumb that in most cases u can just run away in a 1v1 and grab a heal.
if feel like they should stop with this old engine bullshit just to please the playstaytion enyoyers and fix the game.

In short, yes. The xiv community isn't competitive enough for ranked to be taken seriously.

  • @tankster27
    @tankster27 Год назад

The devs is not making changes for the vets. They're making changes for the casuals. I see this very clearly with frontlines. People asked for things to be easy, and SE delivered nearly perfectly. Yet despite how easy things are now from an offensive perspective it's not enough. People are calling for Recopurate to be removed from pvp to make killing easier.
With vets seemingly being pushed out over time it's getting more difficult to enjoy the game since the casuals holds majority of the cards. It's okay to treak rules and nerf certain classes, because most casuals cant deal with the strategy and refuse to adapt to what's being thrown out there. Yet it's not okay to show off after you won a 1v1. It's okay to place last just as long as you're getting exp. It's not okay to take the game seriously. You will be promted to play rank if you get on people's nerves. This is where we are today. Honestly, I hate it.
I'll rather have a small dedicated group of people that likes pvp than to be thrown in with a bunch of randoms that'll never give a shit about pvp

I remember that old titan fight. I was always told you gotta be quick "IM NOT UNDERSTANDING!!" lol. I want to like pvp it feels like there is something but just doesnt give any reason too. No world duels or pvp events to help with this or balancing with the lag. I get destroyed even when following guides and such.

Even with all the clunkiness, server lag, lacking rewards, missing one top 100 reward by 15 points and such, I still love pvp in this game. Started way back when the fold and the feast coexisted, pvp BiS was actually a thing and we had all those PVE skills plus some (I miss you, carnal chill, tar pit......). Getting top 100 for the first time still is one of my favorite moments playing this game.
I still think square has a really good diamond in the rough, they just need the right person to make it shine, maybe hire someone from outside to give some directions on how to work around those issues and make pvp great, Crystalline Conflict is already fun as is, the battle pass system is great, but they really need to incentive more ranked play with tier rewards and top 1/30/100 rewards not being as lackluster as is
    Highly copium but still

Great Video, I agree with your points, but I'd also like to add a few points of my own:
No communication/Group queues for CC: While I understand that steamrolling might be an issue with this (or wintrading like it partially was a problem with feast) being unable to play with familiar faces IN AN MMO or even being able to communicate beyond very basic commands feels extremely isolating. Communication in content like PvP is extremely important (ie wow arena) and just being unable to do so certainly isn't helping making the game mode more competitive or even enjoyable, since I do greatly enjoy to play MMOs with friends.
Rewards: The only reason why PvP is alive currently is for the malmstones, as soon as the majority of the community has hit rank 25 on those, pvp gets shelved for a lot of them till next malmstones. Casual queue for CC usually is quite active, however the same cannot be said about ranked. I'm not a fan of FOMO and I do prefer the way ranked is currently being handled, however just getting a frame and trophy crystals (which you can currently only spend on reskins of already existing gear) is slightly disappointing.
No incentive to win: You currently get 900 series xp for winning a game of CC, 700 for losing. So technically it is more efficient to lose a game that lasts 2 minutes than to win one that lasts 5. So unless you are playing ranked, there isn't even a real incentive to win unless you steamroll the entire enemy team.
Im not really sure if SE can keep a playerbase interested in PvP by just making them chase a carrot on a stick every few months or so. I would be interested to see game modes like Rival wings be part of the roulette and other goofy, more casual/fun stuff be the focus of pvp rather than trying to make it competitive when its clearly not working (like that blue mage battle royal)

@@dema4356 So you would rather it be a small niche part of the game that nobody plays and hardly gets any good or new rewards? You want it to be a complete mess that makes more people hate pvp because of it? That sounds like to me that the only thing you care about is some small sense of superiority because you and your 10-20 person discord could cheese the pvp rewards so you can say you got something completly not earned. Also all "hardcore" means is you put the most effort into something than most people. Well if you really want to be hardcore than shoot for diamond each season. Or do you not like it that you have to work for it?

S-E has always tried to make PVP a thing even at the first and second fan fests they pushed it HARD especially the second one and even at the fan fests it has flopped hard. They are even shoveling tons of items into it such as adventurer plates, glamour etc and still people largely avoid it.
It will never be a thing, glad they keep trying for the less than 1% out there that like in the Final Fantasy community. However they spend too much energy on it compared to other things that need to be improved or added to. For instance there's a lot of high end endgame out there but not enough for the casual and semi-casual/semi-harcore playerbase and lets be real thats a giant amount of player base and subscription revenue that they need to feed and keep which benefits everyone.
I hate pvp with a passion in all games, I think its dumb content designed as taking the easy way out by designing just a handful of maps and walking away so that they don't have to develop much else especially AI bosses and abilities. The only pvp in FF14 that has been any level of engaging was Seal Rock back in Heavensward because it took teamwork and getting into the other two teams heads and both of those are something that are very much anti pvp community as largely people just want to go running out of the gate like a viking and smash stuff until they die.
Won't be a thing never will be a thing, kind of a waste of effort, energy, and manpower except for the first 5-6 weeks where people get fired up and then its a non-event.

I love pvp, I think it's in a good enough position atm. Its the only thing that keeps me going, since I got bored of pve so damn much.
Instead I see pvp as always a new encounter. I duel everyday in the wolf's den against other if anyone's willing. I to cc for when I want to enjoy my chosen class to its fullest, since there ain't much chain stunning in cc and you get to focus more on a single enemy. But more than all, I love spamming Frontlines. I love its chaos, and big scale. I know just how dangerous being sperated from the main group can be, so I always stick with them regardless if my team is trying to get an objective or is just out for dumb kills. It's easier if you don't want to win in fronts, just go for kills and play selfish. It's the most fun. Many of the deadly classes in cc don't work as well in Frontlines anymore, so you can make use of that. Usually the one player who jumps in first and gets stunned, dies first. So let others go in for you. I also love playing every class I unlocked, imo trying to only play one class in pvp is rather stupid, you get much more variety and fun this way, though I can't deny that certain classes are much better than others. Ninja is as deadly as ever in the hands of a good player. Monk in fronts is meh, not so scary anymore. Blackmage and mch in fronts are really good for when you menage to keep distance. Bards are damn annoying, as are whitemages with poly. Pld, drk, war and gbn get ignored by many players since they don't do much dmg and are there mostly for stalling you. Sage is quite great in fronts, especially with its lb. Dancer is extreme fun with its 4 dashes and hit n run potential.
Changing classes every match makes them all the more fun to me. I realised that when I started seeing too many kills as ninja. It also helps when you duel against others while switching classes every now and then. You see the strengths and weaknesses os said class in a 1v1, so you can be more confident in cc. As for fronts, if unsure just play defensively and watch the map. Recognizing when to push or retreat is key. Sometimes, splitting from the big group is better than sticking to them.

I was the goblin that got into ff14 for pvp. A month later, I'm sick of it. Doesn't feel rewarding at all when you can't kill a single player by yourself even after getting a full combo off and playing a burst class. It feels like all the matches I get a nice k/d/a in are ones where I have to pick people off when they're low health.

I used to play pvp a lot before this new *uPdAtE*, my only complain about the old pvp was healers beeing to overpower with healing spamm.
I'm 100% sure that the only thing they needed to improve pvp was reworking healers and adding those nes LB's to each job.
After playing this game for 2 years just to collects mounts and play PVP, i know that sqaure doesnt give a damn about pvp, they only changed something cause a lot of people came from WoW when asmongold tried the game, and just cause wow is a game with a good pvp, they decided to do something about pvp on FFXIV. That's sad, cause i had 1TB of recorded gameplay on frontlines, killing 30+ per game, 25+ everysingle game with almost every single dps jobs. Right now, it's just stupid, game is just a 1,2,3,4 pressing without gauges and those new abilities(guard, healing) doesnt work that well for high ping players. When they added this new pvp i played CC with my 5 characters, got to crystal with less than 50 wins with almost every chat, needed 55 on two of them. But i'm not wasting my time on that, also, my favorite thing to is ruined(playing frontlines) cause they reworked pvp just to crystal conflict. Months ago all you needed to do was playing with a group of summoners and LB together. I don't know whats the best for now, but like you said, having a possibility to heal yourself 4 times with that amout is just ridiculous, you can't 1v1 on frontlines and its also very hard to kill people. Not to mention some overpower skills and the RNG of that shitty MCH, you just focus someone with 100 Battlepoints on frontlines and ruin the person's game just using a LB. On this year i tried to return to the game to enjoy pvp for 2 times and couldnt stay. I think this game is over for me. And i know a LOT of people who liked pvp on this game a lot... most of them stopped playing, some are doing PvE, and not even 10% of the players i knew who used to play PVP everyday are still playing.

SE is pathetic. The only thing FF14 has is story and thats mid at best. Thats my opinion. If SE can do story, then they are missing out on PvP story. Remove the 3 GCs and make 3 new PvP companies. Add story, add gear and mounts for those he companies. Make purify a pre cast ability that last for 20 secs and can nullify poly, pushes and pulls. We need more dmg out put. Less self healing. Guard should block 100 percent dmg no matter what. New servers and a new engine. Stuns shouldn't stack. If you stun an already stunned target then you just lost your stun. Getting CCd on a mount should auto dismount you. SE sucks with pvp and the FF community thats full of pansies will kill the game. FF14 has alot of potential. But SE needs to listen to the feedback on PvP changes, PvE changes, UI changes. We need a better dying system. I can go on and on. End of the day..... WoW will always be better then FF, GW2 will always be better then FF and BDO will always be better, ashes of creation will be better
