  • Lock Every Door by Riley Sager, author of Finals Girls, The Last Time I Lied, and the newest book Home Before Dark! Our protagonist Jules is down on her luck. No job, no boyfriend, no hope. But one day she gets lucky and lands a job working as an apartment sitter at this fancy-smancy building called the Bartholomew. It's the break she needed, even if there are sooooo many rules about what she can and can't do while she's apartment sitting. Especially the rule that she has to stay alone at the apartment every single night.
And especially, especially since her friend and fellow apartment sitting just went missing too...
But all that money though. I'd probably throw caution to the wind too XD
This thriller made me remember why I love this genre so much: all the dangers are so probable and real! It's a creepy creepy world out there!

The first thing I thought of when I finished this book, " this is could happen to me! This is probably happening right now!" I liked this book, but I really enjoyed his Last Time I Lied book. Your thumbnail is beautiful!

Exactly. If I were her, I would have also taken the job. It would have happened to me too.. to any of us.. That’s only PART of what makes this book so scary to me.

I feel like I was so sure that the villain HAD to be different because there was no way they would have revealed him so quickly. Did anyone else have that happen?

I really liked this book, I read it in a day, it’s hard to put it down. I’d say the first half is a bit slow but still entertaining. The plot is somehow predictable but still holds its own magic. I’d def recommend it.

    - Do you think the fire on the 7th floor was intentional, like part of the big scheme somehow? Or just for character development?
    - What would the in-story rational be for keeping up the fake hospital facade?

    • @lostinabookcase3796
      @lostinabookcase3796  4 года назад +1

I think that fire was an accident, because it almost killed one of the key, rich tenants. It also allowed to the author lady to see our hero in a new light, as an actual person.

And as for them keeping up the fake hospital thing, it seems over dramatic for them, and a lot of effort when they could just keep her drugged and quiet. I don't know what their rationale would be for faking, but it made a good twist anyways lol even tho it don't make that much sense XD

When Jules met Nick, I was like “When you’re a hot guy in a thriller, you’re the serial killer!”
And then around page 100, it got me thinking “Wait a minute... Manhattan. Apartment. Line of surgeon family. Young females are missing. It sounds like....... H. H. HOLMES!!!!!”
I remembered the hotel to trapped people and also Sherlock BBC’s adaptation of similar hospital.
“Ohhh fck! Jules is not in a real hospital. SHE’S STILL INSIDE!!!”
I’m very proud of myself to be able to guessed some plots 😂

    Spoiler Warning!
I just finished this book and loved it. It was an eye-opening read during this global pandemic. Specifically the intersection between class and health care.
While there may not be a black-market organ-harvesting operation going on, you know that all over the world, some doctors and others are making life and death decisions not based on science or likelihood of recovery, but by coronavirus patients’ class and perceived social worth. I’ve listened to tearful nurses recount how some patients are left to die while “the doctor’s wife” patient is given every possible care and consideration. It’s really gross.
    Thanks for this review!

Oh ma GURD. I was yelling at this book most of the time I was reading it, had to walk away from it and then came crawling back to keep reading. It made me angry. But in a fun way. Are you going to cover the new one coming out soon?

This one was (mildly) disappointing. I had high hopes in the beginning, but it was just okay overall. The atmosphere and setting were fun, but the Big Reveal was lacking.
