Dude - I'm so glad you made this video. I love, love, love my RX10 iii. But it is from 2016. Hey SONY - I'm ready to GIVE YOU MY MONEY for the RX10v5 !!!! I have examples on my channel and the camera is still amazing... but I'm ready for the 5. Get to it SONY. 💯
Great video. I too love the RX 10 IV, although I'm a stills guy. It's also a wonderful travel camera. My situation is that when I was in the market for a new camera about 18 months ago, I decided that the Mark IV was the one for me, but people on the web were saying that that the Mark V was due out some time soon. So I decided to rent a Mark IV, and buy the improved model when it was released. Now I doubt that it ever will be, so I am currently in the process of buying my Mark IV outright. My other thought is that there should be some obligation on Sony to make an announcement and clarify the situation.
I was waiting for V5 last year, and then decided to take the plunge and purchase the V4 last June. I think of all the terrific pictures I wouldn't have taken in the last 7 months and I have no regrets. I dumped the Lumix FZ300 for this one and am not looking back.
That's a good point. The camera I have right now (A580) is garbage. I'm missing an awful lot of good shots, and every time I take it out, I come home frustrated.
yep, I love this camera also and shoot the bulk of my videos with it, only downside I've had with it is connecting an external mic to it, hard to dial in and does not work on all the settings.
That's interesting. I use an older Rode Stereo Video Mic and find it works quite well, especially with the dead cat windscreen. rode.com/en/microphones/on-camera/stereo-videomic-pro
I'm also waiting for the RX10 Mark V. I wouldn't buy an "old" camera for that much money. But what if they never release a new model again? What should I do? My fingers are itching to reach for the Mark IV. But I don't know if it's still worth it. It's strange that Sony doesn't reveal anything about whether you can still hope for a more contemporary model
Thanks Flip, Fab. I am with you all the way. Ready to jump from Lumix (i have used their ultra zooms for 15 years) but waiting now for two years. !!. I need my new cam definitely by July. I have concerns now that we may not ever get a V. It is possible that there will never be other contenders to equal the current model. Other manufacturers are not making much headway to date. If so, maybe Sony will be happy to just sit at the top with the IV - without the need to further reinvest. ??
I have been using the Sony RX10iv for 10 months now (after selling off a Canon 80D, 5 lenses up to 400mm, and a canon SX70). The Sony is mostly used for bird photos and videos, which have been just as good as with the Canon 80D for stills. And better than the SX70 for 4K video due to the low-contrast video profiles. I shoot stills as raw, and edit in Lightroom to save as 4K jpegs to view as slide-shows on my 4K OLED TV. Wow -- the pics look fantastic. The movies I make are 4K, edited in Corel VideoStudio, and also look great on 4K TV. To me the Sony RX10iv is almost perfect. No need for a backpack full of camera gear. Just a small bag for camera, 2 extra batteries and a neutral density filter. I keep a tripod in my car for extra steady long distance bird videos. Yes it would be great to have 4K 60p and 120p for 4K slow motion, and Sony's newest menu system looks much better. But I got my Sony half price as a used buy, whereas a mark V version will be full price. Also, Sony don't really need to improve it -- it still has no competitor.
The best way to get Sony to release a Mark V is for a me to go out and buy the Mark IV today. Then just watch. As soon as the return window closes, the Mark V will be released, wouldn't ya know. (It works with umbrellas and the rain.)
Sou do Brasil e o valor está bem alto. Mas desejo fazer a compra de uma. Preciso de ajuda com uma dúvida. A RX 10iv o vídeo só pode ser feito olhando para o monitor da câmera?
@@FlippingPhysics same here. i have hope. i got the P950 because i like the higher zoom. but my god that sensor is a piece of junk. even ISO100 looks like a noise party from planet confetti. i still like my P950 but i am keen to get my hands on something with a bigger sensor and better AF. i think the missing zoom can be partly rescued by cropping due to the much better image quality. lets hope 2023 is the year somebody in sony office wake the fark up and be like: "DUDE! great idea lets make another bridge for the good ol times!" 😅
Agree, replaced my older canon dslr with the RX10m4 3 years ago because I was tired of lugging around 4 lenses to my son's baseball games. Very pleased with my choice and have been waiting for the m5 version too. Some upgrades to the m4 would make it the go to camera for so many amateur photographers, or a great backup camera for the die hard professionals. The only caveat will be the price...and you have to wonder with such a long wait...could it be mirrorless?
Bridge cameras are technically mirrorless (pushes glasses up), but mirrorless usually refers to camera bodies with interchangeable lenses. It would be funny if the next in the lineup was a different camera type completely.
There were some rumors in 2019 about prototype using new senzor, 6K video etc to be released at the end of the 2020... and then whole covid thing happened, maybe Sony with their scaled down production (only right now they relaunched A6100, A6300...) focused more on cheaper RX100 for two years in lockdowns and chip shortages, hopefully the V is still on its way, that lens is really water right now with 5 years old technology.
Bought my Sony DSC-HX1 in '09 and then upgraded to the first RX10 mark I, I have been waiting for the RX10 Mark V since; but I dought its coming out, as Sony still sells on its web site the RX10 Mark I, II, III & IV. Sony sales did not go well due to Smartphone camera evolution disrupting the camera market. ..... If the Mark V does come out in 2022 0r 2023 it will be a $2000+ camera due to a small production. I just hope its a wideand super long zoom with a F1.8 lens !!
I agree with you. After waiting two years for v5 with no expectations anymore, I want a new camera, like my v4 but better. Do you have any suggestions?
I seriously considered the Sony a74, however, I can't stomach the price and not have the two main features I mentioned about the RX10 IV which I mentioned in the video and consistently use.
So I had the trip of a lifetime coming up last summer… Costa Rica, Panama, Brazil, Columbia… I waited and waited and waited for version 5 to come out to the point where needing to have the latest version of the best camera was more important than having one that was still ridiculously amazing and missed out because I couldn’t bring myself to buy 4 year old technology. No not really. I bought the “outdated” version of the RX10 and got pictures that I’ll likely not have a chance to again. Why? Because chasing technology at the expense of living your life is stupid. If the RX10 IV fits your needs, buy it because you’re stupid not to. And yes(maybe?) a version V will come out but the RX10 IV is still such a great camera that you won’t care (too much).
Unironically the best comment in here. This has just been a hugbox for people to complain about a camera that already does what it needs to do for most everyone that can only pay this much. Maybe there are issues with focus or noise or maybe the camera cannot do 100Mbps in the 1080p24 setting (that is actually BS because if it can do it with higher fps and resolution than why not at lower settings?). At some point, your work is just a study reference and this camera totally fulfills that job. This is not some Sundance Film Festival shit.
I'm looking to automatically record still images during video recording. This function is possible according to the menus of the device and the description of the manual, but I cannot manage to activate it. The "manual double registration" function works correctly. Unfortunately when I validate the "automatic double recording" at high frequency, (tab 2 of film 2), no photo is triggered automatically; the "automatic double recording" symbol is displayed on the screen. I don't understand what the phrase in the following documentation means "Takes pictures when impressive compositions including characters are detected." I am a musician in an orchestra and often use the camera on a tripod to film the concerts I attend . So I want to take pictures automatically during video recording. I am therefore trying to understand what criteria the RX10 IV uses to decide to take a photo. Are there any special settings that make shooting easier. I contacted sony support but got no response. I am referred to the documentation which does not answer my question. If you could help me that would be great sorry for my poor english
I have been unable to find documentation about when it automatically takes pictures. In my experience it occurs when the camera detects smiling faces. That means, unfortunately, I do not think it will automatically take pictures during an orchestra concert. That's my best guess.
Also, your English is fine. I think it's awesome you are communicative with me in English. There is no way I could communicate with you in French. 😬 (Assuming French is your native language.)
If they make a mk5, I would really wish they get rid of the POWER ZOOM, its way to slow and just eats battery power. And yes they need a new sensor, and Z battery. Also bird eye focus.
The power zoom, at least on the mk3, has a quirk to it. When the camera is simply 'on', the zoom is relatively quick. You may not be able to zoom as quickly as you would with a zoom lens for interchangeable lens cameras, but it is good enough for most purposes. Once you begin recording, however, zooming becomes painfully slow when using the zooming SWITCH. If you want the lens to zoom more quickly while recording, you need to use the zoom RING on the lens barrel. I do not know if the situation is the same with the mk4, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Oh, they did, however, their policy clearly stated that "no cameras longer than 6 inches" are allowed in the venue. This camera is roughly 5.5 inches in length when off. We had some discussions. They eventually allowed it because it fit their requirements. I was very careful never to turn the camera on while talking with them. 😬
While taking video, press down the shutter button. The word "capture" will appear on the screen to let you know you just took a picture. However, there are only certain video modes where this will work. For example, it does not work while filming in 4k or HD at 120 fps. If the camera is in a mode where it won't take pictures, a camera icon with a circle and a slash through it appears in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Unless I have a specific need for it, I film at 1080p at 24 fps so I can take photos while I film. Definitely set the Dual Record Image Size to Large and also turn on Auto Dual Record at the High Frequency, that way while you are filming the camera will automatically take some pictures, which is a really cool feature. Hope that helps!
RX10 V is a good all arounder for sure but the vignetting was horrible when taking pictures of birds with a blue sky. Also that lens and sensor combo is MAXED out, you really can't crop in anymore without serious degrading of the image. I now use a A74 + 200-600.
The Alpha 7 iv with a 200-600 lens must have cost you upwards of $5k, right? The RX10 IV is only ~$1.7k. And the Alpha 7 iv with 200-600 lens must weight roughly 6 lb and is huge! The RX10 IV is only 3.5 lb and is comparatively small. I'll stick with my RX10 IV.
I don't notice any problems cropping in at all.... Unless I am zoomed all the way out _and_ using the digital zoom, past the clear zoom setting. Then no, I can't really crop into it and it looks a bit mushy.
Here are Sony's instructions for what they call "Duel Rec": helpguide.sony.net/dsc/1720/v1/en/contents/TP0001582274.html One caveat: It does not work with 4k video or 1080p at 120 fps. I usually film 1080p at 24 fps. Also, you can set it up do take pictures automatically while you are filming. I always have this setting on and just delete the ones I do not want to keep. It's quite useful: helpguide.sony.net/dsc/1720/v1/en/contents/TP0001582268.html
I have heard that as well. Unfortunately, there have been rumors for years that version 5 is coming out "this year!!", however, it still hasn't happened. Excited, but not holding my breath.
Well, unless ALL bloggers and reviewers (with significant follower numbers) put pressure on Sony, they probably are not gonna release a new version. God know why.
Remember Sony is trying to find a happy middle ground between professional and consumer with this camera. I'd love what you are hoping for, however, not sure they would put both in the V. I'd love the 8k win in camera stills.
Sadly 1" cameras died few years ago. Every manufacturer focuses on FF now, where they can earn more money and sell their stuff. Global chip shortage, economic crysis does not help.
The Zoom 24-600mm is misleading as to how the companies for marketing reasons express the 25x Optical Zoom that expresses the ratio. the 58mm is considered as the equivalent of the human eye. So when we divide 600/58= 10.3 zoom compared to our eyes! This is what is actually zoomed in 10x..... to our eyes. Make video!
I disagree. It is my understanding that the 25x optical zoom refers to the relative range of the optical zoom. (Not an absolute measurement relative to human eyesight.) 600/24 = 25. Hence, 25x optical zoom.
@@FlippingPhysics correct, but when you tell the buyer that its actually a 10x optical (zoom), we then understand that the max magnification is 10x as a 7x35 or 10x50 binoculars.. that's my point!
I think you are conflating the terms "optical zoom" and "magnification", however, they are not the same. 10x optical zoom refers to the range of zoom on a zoom lens. 10x magnification refers to seeing things 10x larger than with just your eyes. Do you disagree with what I am saying?
Yes, you are correct. Sorry about that. It is a mirrorless camera, which is why it is so quiet. It functions much like a digital single-lens reflex camera, however, it is not a DSLR.
@@FlippingPhysics AND THOUGH THE RX10 SERIES ARE TECHNICALLY MIRROR-LESS (GLASSES MEME), THEY ARE REFERRED TO AS BRIDGE CAMERAS. MIRRORLESS COLLOQUIALLY REFERS TO SLR CAMERA BODIES WITH INTERCHANGEABLE LENSES. I have decided to wait since last year. If Sony sell less and less of this camera, maybe they will unveil the mark V !!!! 😂 I got my old Canon SX50HS for now. 🙄 The price on Amazon has dropped the most since it’s available last month, maybe it’s a sign. For now, I’m not in a hurry but I’m dreaming.
Or Sony just concludes that better to push system cameras to everyone's hand... Just like happened 15 years ago when fixed lens prosumers were completely sidelined to push lower ergonomy/less controls entry level DSLR into hand of everyone and their pet dog.
should i name the 960fps cameras , or just say phones can do that let alone cameras , there are bunch of sony cameras alone that can do that . And that picture you took is utter trash , might as well take it from video . at least it looks that way from you tube .
Sony is geared to the beginners, amateurs & cellphone's shooters. They rather wait for the Chinese & Korean to make parts for cellphones than tiny sensor cameras. You do know that the ended the SLT and A-mount system like Canon & Nikon have done to their SLR/DSLR.
@@FlippingPhysics If you are talking about DSLR, it's dead just like SLR. Many beginners, amateurs & vision impaired are to Sony & mirrorless. Don't be fooled with scammed word, "25.4mm sensor". It is only 15.86mm and the whole area is a tiny 116.16mm2. Much smaller than m4/3 sensor. Printing is acceptable to 11X14. But do you want to throw $1,700,00 for that?
First of all, sensor size should not be an issue. Sony has made an APS-C sensor bridge before... in 2005. I think they can handle putting a larger sensor in the RX10V. Additionally, you have not answering Mr. Physics' question. I'm not saying its a good alternative, but you could try the Casio EX-F1 bridge. It was made specially for slo-mo video.. in 2008. Maybe it would be fun for a retro style video where we can't make out what's going on in the figure?

Been waiting for a year now, myself.
Hopefully the wait will end someday.
I want to preorder that 😀
I do as well
RX10 V is a good all arounder for sure but the vignetting was horrible when taking pictures of birds with a blue sky.
@@FlippingPhysics It's whatever works for you and your budget. I personally could never go back to the RX10IV.
Makes sense.
I don't notice any problems cropping in at all....
Unless
I am zoomed all the way out _and_ using the digital zoom, past the clear zoom setting.
Then no, I can't really crop into it and it looks a bit mushy.
If it’s not broken, why fix it?
The issue is not that it is broken, the issue is that, with current technology, the camera would be so much better!
At least they could release some firmware updates. But why bother when there are no real alternatives?
So the RX10M4 owners just feel abandoned.
I'd upgrade to a Ver. V if they were to add features like an updated night vision & flexibly akin to what the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F707 had.
Good luck with that. That design was cool but totally impractical considering the tilt-flip screens we have today and how used to them we are.
Is this camera better than my Canon 90D?
Not really. See my note above -- I was using a Canon 80D and switched. The advantage is smaller lighter gear to carry, not better pics.
I've been waiting for 2 years for the version 5. I won't buy the older one.
Agreed. I think there is a lot of pent up demand for version 5.
I want RX10 V too 🌿🌿🌿
Crossing my fingers!

1 year ago and still wait
I have little hope left that the RX10-V will actually exist someday.
The ZV-1 is awesome BUT it overheats in 4K because it’s so small.
which is definitely not helpful...
How can I take a photo when filming? Thanks
Here are Sony's instructions for what they call "Duel Rec":
helpguide.sony.net/dsc/1720/v1/en/contents/TP0001582274.html
One caveat: It does not work with 4k video or 1080p at 120 fps. I usually film 1080p at 24 fps.
Also, you can set it up do take pictures automatically while you are filming. I always have this setting on and just delete the ones I do not want to keep. It's quite useful:

I heard that Sony will launch v.5 by the end of 2022.
I have heard that as well. Unfortunately, there have been rumors for years that version 5 is coming out "this year!!", however, it still hasn't happened. Excited, but not holding my breath.
I'm waiting for RX100 8 or RX10 5 😂
I tried the RX100 m7. Too small for me. Too difficult to make the changes I need to make to settings while actually using the camera.
Sony, same as Fuji, doesn't give a rat's ass about WHAT customers want. They'll buy it anyways.
Preach!
Maybe 24-400mm F2.4-4and build in 2x tele lens build in. Anyway, it will be great if Sony does make a Rx-100 with 18-50mm F1.4-2 with hotshot build in
At this point I do not really care what the specs are. I just want version 5!
Well, unless ALL bloggers and reviewers (with significant follower numbers) put pressure on Sony, they probably are not gonna release a new version. God know why.
Great technology but Sony need to improve build quality and ergonomics.
Is that you Lenny? 😁😁
WE NEED A NEW RX10 V !!!!!
Agreed. That's why I made the video. Basically, I just wanted to complain that it's not here yet.
two card slots and 8k video with in camera stills and i buy a v
Remember Sony is trying to find a happy middle ground between professional and consumer with this camera. I'd love what you are hoping for, however, not sure they would put both in the V. I'd love the 8k win in camera stills.
they are (Sony) really kidding us... or our ass... do not know exactly. WHERE IS RX10 V SONY!?!?!?!?!?!
yep
I agree
Sadly 1" cameras died few years ago. Every manufacturer focuses on FF now, where they can earn more money and sell their stuff. Global chip shortage, economic crysis does not help.
Yeah if they can just do us a solid and cram a full frame sensor in the V that'd be great.
and 2" sensor
@@FlippingPhysics correct I was typing after several glasses of whiskey lol 😂 😂
Do you agree that at 600mm on this lens we are actually having a 10x Magnification from the 58mm point which is equivalent to the average human eye?
It is not a DSLR.
ADIDITONALLY, THE 1" SENSOR SIZE IN THE RX10S WOULD NEVER BE FOUND IN A MIRRORLESS CAMERA BODY ASIDE FROM THOSE NIKON J SERIES CAMERAS AND THOSE WERE AWFUL. SO YOU WERE WRONG TWICE HAHA FINALLY GETTING YOU BACK FOR CORRECTING MY HILARIOUSLY MISQUOTED BEASTIE BOYS LYRICS BACK IN 2016 DUE TO EXTREME SLEEP DEBT LIKE WHY DID I EVEN TRY SO HARD IN SCHOOL IM A LOSER NOW ANYWAY I COULD HAVE SPENT THAT TIME OUT DOING A LOT MORE OF THE SHIT I LIKE DOING THANKS FOR THE FALSE HOPE (STILL GOOD MEMORIES THOUGH SORRY YOUR AUDIENCE IS LARGELY MADE UP OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO CANNOT DIRECTLY SUPPORT YOUR WORK DIDNT APPRECIATE YOU MAKING ME FEEL BAD ABOUT THAT WHEN THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO BUT OK TRAUMA DUMP OVER TAKE CARE).
On a positive note, you atleast have the version 4..... Unable to buy version 4 since its sold out everywhere while version 5is nowhere in sight
Maybe that is a good sign? Maybe supplies are low because they are about to release the V… 🤞
I just had a version IV in my hand at a local store.
@@SigisTravelVideos Due to semiconductor chips shortage, there is shortage of supply atleast here in India....Even sony stores here are not getting their supplies :-(
I have decided to wait since last year. If Sony sell less and less of this camera, maybe they will unveil the mark V !!!! 😂
I got my old Canon SX50HS for now. 🙄
The price on Amazon has dropped the most since it’s available last month, maybe it’s a sign.
@@tuunaes RIP the APS-C bridge revolution that could have been started with the DSC-R1.
Yeah that's concerning😐
And aggravating
should i name the 960fps cameras , or just say phones can do that let alone cameras , there are bunch of sony cameras alone that can do that . And that picture you took is utter trash , might as well take it from video . at least it looks that way from you tube .
Top ✌! You are late to the party - Promo-SM .
Okay. What other DSLR has the two features I highlighted in the video? 960 fps, and simultaneous video and full width resolution photos.
