From Caiaphas to Cantone - Dave Foster and his hairpiece are a show on their own! (Glad to see credits at the top so I can attach names to familiar faces) Was Kevin Cornwell also the Specialist in Tommy? (Great job in that part.) This was another show like Children of Eden - so many opportunities for spontaneous moments, so many look-or-you'll-miss-it moments. You guys would lose so much of your magic if you polished things before running shows like this. (And btw, that 'tache is the bees knees - looking good!) It's eerie to hear announcements of the spring show in March because we all know what happened then. I had composed and recorded all the music for a production of Great Expectations in Minneapolis (including a great Batman-style underscore for the fight choreography), and we were canceled on March 17, the day before our first of 2 previews. I imagine your company had invested a lot of time and effort into your show too. It was a shock, like it was for everybody, but the board of directors rescheduled us for the same slot in March of 2021. Then of course we were canceled again, which was the right call. So, is Avondale back up and running yet? Our theater is, but it's a limited season with only half houses, and so far no one has wanted an original score :-(
Thanks Beena! Yes, that was the same Kevin Cornwell who sang as the specialist in Tommy. He's the been the choir director at Avondale schools for a couple decades. Avondale High School's theatre program is in fact up and running with some pandemic-era adapting. We probably will not do another alumni production like the ones you saw for another couple years.
