    Has anyone researched is his behavior drastically changed after receiving the hammer strike to the head?
    I've done a lot of research on probation era gangsters and one had a serious head injury. His personality drastically changed, he started doing very sadistic, dangerous, criminal things...he was sent to jail. While there he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, which we now know is genetic. You can't get it from a serious blow to the head. But you'd be amazed how many people have had serious head traumas and where diagnosed as schizophrenic.
    I come from an abusive home. Some of the things this man endured as a child I did too. I was in a battered woman's shelter pretty early in life. But my mom went back toy dad. The cycle of abuse tends to repeat itself. I know I, as any other human being, am capable of horrible things. But I refuse to victimize another living creature as I'd be just like my father.
    Abuse and torture are something one can never get over from, most people repeat the cycle.

It's not commonly disputed that an individual (especially a child) would be so without an environmental trigger, but should this be an exception, then Dahmer would be a prime example of nature over nurture. His parents, if knowing of something, seem to want to hide it forever, but hopefully the truth will come out.

    This is one of the saddest stories I've ever heard. People have the opportunity to overcome their horrible childhood traumas and make a positive difference in the world, especially with their own families. Unfortunately Joseph's mind and heart warped from his own twisted sense of entitlement, which involved hurting other people even worse than he was hurt. Imagine your only legacy to be inflicting a tremendous amount of pain upon others. I have a hard enough time living with mistakes I have made without something like that hanging over my head. Such a tragedy. I'm glad they were caught, because they were fixing to be prolific serial killers. I hope Michael chose another way.

    This is so atrocious. How can the court allow the defendant stand trial if he is diagnosed schizophrenic? That is a lack of moral responsibility. I feel horrible for all the victims of Joseph, but no one was a worser victim than the killer himself. How the hell did the Kallingers be allowed to adopt him? Why couldn't any of his teachers see his, I don't fucking know, maybe his difference in appearance with marks on his body, or his interaction with other students or within the classroom? I can't even get mad or stay upset with Joseph about his mental instability or actions afterwards. Do I think his actions were horrifying and wrong, yes. Do I also think that he was mentally disturbed, absofuckinglutely.

    • @CerealKiller420
      @CerealKiller420 7 лет назад +7

      The times were different back then. It was normal to beat your kids, and no one batted an eye at what we now consider child abuse. Also, people who are schizophrenic are all around you. They have jobs, go to school, and act like totally normal people in public. Not everyone with schizophrenia is "insane," and he was clearly intelligent and sane enough to hold down a job and have a family, as well as sane enough to have rational thoughts. You have to be really fargone to be considered insane by the courts, and simply having a mental illness doesn't mean you fit into that category.

    • @michellewinchester6703
      @michellewinchester6703 7 лет назад +1

      I agree with your statement about there are schizophrenics everywhere. At the same time, he had obviously shown through his actions that he wasn't coherent of everything that he was doing. To those who are able to handle life on a normal scale, that's commendable, but this guy unfortunately wasn't one of them.
