Every hairdresser I've had cut my hair has told me to grow my hair longer. They don't understand the longer my hair becomes the thicker more unmanageable it becomes. Now I just have a medium, long layered bob and put up with it. I really think all hairdressers should have specialist training in dealing with curly hair as in the past I even had to blow dry my own hair in the salon!
You are the best! I found a lady in 1999 that gave me the best haircut of my life and it took 45 min. After I left LA my mom and I have flown to see her every three months. I tried in seattle area to find someone. I have been to about 30 stylists and they spend 2 hours on color and 15 min on haircut. No movement. So quarantine happened. OUR LA lady sent us kits for color, but of course haircut wasn't happening. I watched this video 10 times and followed along when I cut my mom's curly red hair. She is very particular and she said this was one of the best cuts she has had. She has had people stop her in the store to tell her how beautiful her hair is and it makes me so happy. She is beautiful and 75 and her hair is fabulous thanks to this great tutorial!
Great job, I have curly hair and I really appreciated your comment about letting the client use their own unique technique on styling it - it's no disrespect to the hairstylist it's just that is curly girls know how our hair behaves - but it has to start with a great hair cut!
@@JustSkram Is that right? I havent really looked much into their lawsuit, but I heard about it. Personally, I think theres truth in it because I don't think it's good to just cleanse your scalp and hair with just a conditioner. Used this technique but applied it to a slightly different cut. More of a angled bob. Came out awesome! Thanks so much, my mom has super super curly hair and it turned out perfect for her!
Thank you so much for this video! Every time I go to the stylist they straighten my hair and give me a straight hair cut. I can only straighten my hair mid winter when it is dry. I just gave myself this cut! (My daughter helped with the first cuts in back) This is the best cut I have had in years it really accents my curls and took the shelf (weight off of where it was looking dumb in back). Very excited about it!
I wanna thank you for this video coz it helps a lot to me as a new beginners, I recently cut a medium length curly hair and it went really good. I listened and follow every single steps that you said in this video. I'm so proud to myself that I did it though I know I still need to continue my class to learn more and continue watching different types of your hair cutting video here. Cheers!
I didn't scroll all the way down, but I noticed most of these curly clients and stylist are divacurl, but at my salon, we are Ouidad certified. The most common complaint we get from our curly clients that have tried both is that their divacurl cut was done on dry hair, and it ended up looking less flattering in comparison. Ouidad carve and slice is done on wet hair and focuses more on an individuals unique curl pattern.
My friend gave me a ouidad product once. My curls loved that stuff. It was a small bottle that didn't last long. I was going to order some more.......until I saw the price. And....the bottle was so small to be expensive. It was nice while it lasted. How much is a haircut at your salon just out of curiosity? Does it cost more for curly hair?
I am Ouidad certified as well. I love working with curly hair! I grew up with curls, and had some AWFUL haircuts in my life. I've been a stylist for 30+ years. Being properly trained as a curly specialist has changed my clientele and my income. Every head of curly/wavy hair is different.
@@williamcharles8628 To become a Ouidad certified stylist you must attend a Ouidad training program. It will likely be at one of the Flagship salons, but that could have changed in the last few years. I would go to their official website and see if there are any details about training. You must make application, there are prerequisites and it is expensive, but worth it.
I always have the most trouble with this cut....my old barber which has passed away now...I asked " how do you cut curly hair" and he would say "pull it down and cut it just like you do with straight hair"...lol..great vid I always enjoy the watch!!!🤓🤓🤓
I learned a lot from your videos, thank you! I always cut my own hair, and I've never been 100% satisfied with how the sides look, like, the area by my ears. My hair is very curly, and your advice about the "corners" and not removing too much weight, and sort of pulling the hair towards the back was really helpful, I'm gonna try that. Thanks again!
I would love to know exactly how to phrase this cut! I have had such a problem the last 4 or 5 yrs especially to find a good stylist who actually listens!!!! Got a great cut done at a beauty school, the instructor taught the gal the cut to do and it was the most fab. The instructor moved to Texas, and no notes on it in their system of the cut. Currently, I have a botched cut from 8 wks ago, with me trying to grow out past 4-5 yrs, stylist typically cut off what I just spent months growing because they do not know what they are doing! This same scenario has happened to me many times in recent yrs. I'm at a loss. Salon I am currently using, the last stylist gave me a bit of a lecture saying I should not be telling the stylist how to cut my hair or what 'terms' to use as they should know my hair as that is their job! True the latter but wow, what a way to alienate a client! What shall I call this cut to have done?
Thank you for the video. I am a hairstylist, and I have only one curly girl client. I do a lot of what you do, but I am looking (always) to do a better cut. I wish you had a camera above you to show more clearly the sections you are taking for the layering. Could you, by chance, attach a link to a head sheet?? Thank you!

Great info! So I have long, naturally curly hair and I just CANNOT get a good cut from my guy. He does great color but I've not been happy with the cuts. I have the long weighed down curly problem. I need volume. Can you do a long layered cut on curly hair please-I'm talking like 20in long hair when it's wet lol. I'm afraid I might end up with that 90's mushroom look😩 Thanks!
I love your videos. How do I go about purchasing your products/ Also the gel mousse seems like something I would love to try, because I have been doing that for awhile on my client's hair.
Great video! I have thick curly hair and I've always gotten a deva cut but the curls are getting tighter! I have no idea how to manage it, its slightly shorter on one side due to the change of curl pattern, plus the volume it is creating! Any suggestions for my just below shoulder length hair?
Hi Steven what does it mean to "Cut into the curl" ? There's a lady that wants me to cut her hair, It's just slightly wavy & a bit thin. She's older & said that I needed to " cut into the curl " not sure exactly what that means
I love your curly hair tutorials and hope someday I can find a stylist willing to watch your video and follow it. However I have extremely thick, bristly, coarse hair that grows straight out on the sides, where it it super duper extra thick. I can't get close enough to my scalp with a straightening iron to minimize what looks like waves left over from taken out braids, which adds to the bulk (makes bumps in the top layer). Can you please do a tutorial where you cut broom straw-like uber thick hair and show how to get the bulk out without the bottom layer pushing up the top layer? I now have clown hair because, though layered, it won't lay down right because it's extremely thick underneath. Seriously, think Bozo hair. Thank you so much!
Hi, I'm doing a poll actually. I'm thinking of setting up virtual, one-on-one hair consultation appointments to give my clients personalized hair tips, but I want feedback from my awesome subscribers first. Would you be interested in purchasing a service like that? Thanks!
I think a virtual, one on one consultation would work great for stylists, hairdressers and folks that have a natural knack for styling their hair. I personally wouldn't benefit from this because all I really want is a good hair cut that I can easily manage with minimal effort that takes the bulk off the sides of my hair so I don't have stiff/square helmet head. I would never be able to translate and then convey your advice to a stylist. If offered, I think this service will be successful. Hope this feedback helps.
Do you find it's better to cut curly hair wet or dry?? I have so many clients tell me 'You can't cut my hair dry, it can only be cut wet.' Then I try to explain to them how curly hair shrinks up when it's dry if it's cut wet, and it's like I've told them a lie or something bc shit hits the fan after that. My mom had curly hair, I know how to cut curly hair decently. Okay I'm done talking so much haha. I love your videos! We watch them in our salon for help sometimes.
I have curly hair and I will NEVER have another dry "Deva" cut. Emily (SLC) hacked up my hair randomly with no method for taking out the weight except to keep cutting it shorter. I ended up with a "shelf" along the top crown, that was cut too far toward the back of the head. It's not symmetrical, it's not blended, but while I was in the chair she continued to insist that dry is the only way to cut curly hair -- as my hair was getting more and more hacked up and looking like hay. It doesn't matter if the hair curls up and is shorter than it is when it's wet. Of course it curls up and gets shorter!! Just plan for it!! You can't see how it's going to dry unless it is cut when it's wet. Once it's dry, it's over. I think it's called a DEVA cut because the stylists don't listen to the clients and think they're the DEVAS.
YOU NEEEEEED TO DO THE MATTHEW NOSZKA HAIRSTYLE UNDERCUT, it's amazing and a little wavy. I would really loveee it i usually show your bieber videos to my hairstylist, i would like some tips to make that gatsby wave that he have, my hair is pretty straight so i often blow dry it

Not cute! Any suggestions on how to eliminate that would be amazing!!!!
The layers in your video lay great! However in my hair the length is about 3-4 inches longer and the layers cut in will become the same length when dry and not look like layers, but look disconnected
I have this problem many times when cutting longer curly hair. The top layer bounces up and makes a big disconnect from the length. What I usually do to fix this, is I use texturizing scissors on that short layer (on the ends of it) which blends it into the layers below it. This usually fixes that problem and the short layer diffuses and does not become as noticeable.
Can you please recommend someone in Maine who can cut hair like this? I'm willing to travel. I wish I could cut my own hair but I can't reach the back :( Also, do you have a video for thicker, coarser hair by chance? I have enough hair on my head for 3 other people, that's how thick. My hair has a mixture of wiry, straight, curly and stiff hair. It's the best way I can explain it, but it is really, really thick. It will straighten out nicely, but will frizz in the slightest of humidity.

It seems like to find a stylist who really knows how to cut curly hair would cost a fortune. I've been to a couple in my life and they screwed it up. I have to cut my own hair. I fear hair stylists, and it is really too expensive. I don't have 100 bucks for a hair cut just because someone specializes in curly hair. I can't even afford products that cost $20.00 or more. To pay that, is insanity. People with straight hair get all the affordable products like $3 or 4 dollars. I don't even know how I would find someone who really knows and understands curly hair. I see all these women that look so put together and I wish I could look polished like that but it's just not affordable so I just wear my hair in a messy type bun everyday.
His videos annoy me in that he shows us where to cut but then moves his fingers so he’s barely cutting anything. Like cut the damn hair. I’ve noticed that with other cuts he’s done too, he doesn’t cut as much.
That was an insane amount of words to simply say "cut a 90° haircut" and not add anything else to learn. No wonder you cut so little off. There are no additional tricks or relations to curly hair in the entire video expect that the mannequin is curly. I was a fan of yours but the longer I've watched you, the more I've noticed how much less actual information you even put in these videos.

How do I find a stylist that understands this? It's so frustrating, they always leave too much weight on top anddddddddd bingo the triangle!
I'm a bit of a perfectionist. So - not bad. Pretty good. But - Don't you be an Uneven Steven. That is a Cardinal Sin.
Lolol
It seems like to find a stylist who really knows how to cut curly hair would cost a fortune. I've been to a couple in my life and they screwed it up. I have to cut my own hair. I fear hair stylists, and it is really too expensive. I don't have 100 bucks for a hair cut just because someone specializes in curly hair. I can't even afford products that cost $20.00 or more. To pay that, is insanity. People with straight hair get all the affordable products like $3 or 4 dollars. I don't even know how I would find someone who really knows and understands curly hair. I see all these women that look so put together and I wish I could look polished like that but it's just not affordable so I just wear my hair in a messy type bun everyday.
why the thumbnail look like michael jackson
Great cut, not very good styling lol
Why do you always upload so late? Lol
I am from USA. It's 7am when I upload.
Hamzeh Azzam it's 1 pm in the U.K.
I don’t like it at all
His videos annoy me in that he shows us where to cut but then moves his fingers so he’s barely cutting anything. Like cut the damn hair. I’ve noticed that with other cuts he’s done too, he doesn’t cut as much.
So why are here
That was an insane amount of words to simply say "cut a 90° haircut" and not add anything else to learn. No wonder you cut so little off.
There are no additional tricks or relations to curly hair in the entire video expect that the mannequin is curly. I was a fan of yours but the longer I've watched you, the more I've noticed how much less actual information you even put in these videos.
