  • My first attempt at recreating the 1995 Fear Factory machine gun fire Demanufacture sound. I was surprised when I loaded up the ML Sound Lab 1996 Slash 4x12 cabinet, as I didn’t hear much Slash going on, I immediately heard Fear Factory. The most attractive thing about the Demanu tone is the deep cabinet resonance. Lots of internal reflections going on giving it that deep grindy massive sound. And the Slash cabinet is just that. It also has the Vintage 30 speakers which Dino used on that album.
His amp head was a heavily modified Marshall JCM800 with extra gain stages added. If you watch the 1996 Ozzfest video you can see that head on stage with the Mexican flag and a Porn Star sticker on it. Sadly, it was stolen and never recovered. I once again used the ENGL Powerball on my Axe-Fx which is by far the most brOOtal sounded of all the amps.
Fun fact about the recording of Demanufacture. They were sharing a studio that had a few different rooms with another band. That band was Bon Jovi recording there 1995 album These Days. Bon Jovi complained to the studio manager that Fear Factory was recording so loud the sound was going through the walls and interfering with Bon Jovi’s microphone. Rumor has it if you listen to the soft quiet parts on These Days, you just might hear some Fear Factory faintly in the background.
