Hi nice video as usual you get to some wonderful places ,wish I was with you. I am 75 years young, just started camping, got most of the gear, but don't know where to go. had two solo camps [ just one night ] but it's a bit dodgy at my age on you'r own. Stay safe and enjoy, all the best from the grey ghost.
Your videos are truly great. So calm , interesting and funny at the same time. Very much well time spent at the screen, Thanks for Your shaing of the videos and thanks for being You :) Greetings from WW2HH
Hi there, I've just came across your vids and been really enjoying them all night.....great stuff. I live near the wansbeck and know the secret camp area, but when I was last there in about April those shelters weren't there, just the fire pits. I'll be taking the dog down when I get a chance after seeing this, they look brilliant. I wouldn't mind coming along for a nights camp in springtime and if I'm not away. Looking forward to more vids. Cheers :)
dang, 2014. Was is really that long ago? I remember coming home from a night out and watching this, in combination with a old mash rerun, the one where Klinger dresses like the statue of liberty.
You could have rented them out as honeymoon suites and retired ;)) Awesome video as always and kudos for trying out the natural fire lighting, never easy in the best of conditions but as you know its about practising as much as you can. Many thanks for sharing Damien and looking forward to the next instalment ~Peace~
Zed Outdoors My natural fire lighting has just gone to the next level Zed, I bought a traditional flint and steel from Shark Designs after watching your video and what a difference it makes, I got the classic u shaped 18th century fire steel and theres no comparison to that old piece of file I was using which didn't produce many sparks at all, now I'm getting char cloth to light after 2 or three strikes, I'm really impressed with it, Atb, Damian.
Awesome little camping area you found and very atmospheric video with the sound of the wind in the background, very relaxing just like the rain hitting the roof of a tent, it gives the feeling of actually being there.
WOW !...5 Star Fell, what a find... Thank you so much for sharing, your vids they are brilliant,it's just like being their, and as for that pork chop you had me drooling :-) PLEASE keep up the good work, you are a great guy all the very best Sir take care Rob
The walk from Bothal saw mill to Morpeth is a nice one, especially with autumn colours. You can get some nice pictures of the viaduct now the trees are loosing their leaves.
For someone with no friends , you sure have a lot of friends . Dude you know your subscribers loves you ! Great video and great find . Good to see you out again .
Wow, that's a beautiful place! That's funny what you said about memories! I think the brain get's so full of trivia by the time you reach a certain age there just isn't any room left! lol. That really is a magical place and the time of year lends itself well to appreciating it. Autumn always creates a special atmosphere to woodlands I feel. You have mates on here that's for sure, I love these videos you're doing.
Great to see you back Damian, and what a belter of a new video you have made too. That viaduct is seriously a nice looking achievement, and moreso the scenery that it nestles around is stunning matey! Lovely waling country and walking into that secret ready made camp was a true bonus...some serious bushcrafters in that area...lovely shelters! I thought it was great that you utilised one of them and had a successful camp trip. Please keep the vids coming as I am addicted to your channel! :-) ATB
Wandering Wolf 2 I nearly didn't bother looking in that area where I found the camp, I had already decided on somewhere else but the dog walkers passing near by made me look for somewhere new, I'm pleased I did as it was an amazing find, thanks for watching, Damian
Another great vid mate and what a place to find I bet you couldn't believe ya eyes. I've got the xl version mate used it in scotland and it was awesome kept me dry in heavy rain £45 you can't go wrong. Atb rob
Rob Jacques I was like a dog with two peckers when I found the place, couldn't believe my luck lol.. Some people say a Hydrostatic Head of 10,000 will keep you dry in light rain, others will say heavier rain, I think the rating is just a guide as there are other factors like wind and how hard the rain is hitting the fabric, as for the price I would have paid £45 for the small as I think its still good value for money.
Alpkit stuff seems to be very good priced. Hey mate I know you generally go solo but do you fancy a camp ?. Im busy until the new year but would love to get out with you early 2015.
Hi Mixer, a blast from the past, Ken Brady here. I started watching your channel when you were visiting Aux Units OBs, but I enjoyed this post most of all.
Hi Ken, its been a long time since we worked on that community programme many moons ago. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. I hope you are doing ok and nice to hear from you again. Thanks for watching the channel, ATB, Damian.
Hi m8 I've just found your channel 👍 I have to say well done its really well put together especially the editing, you really inspired me to get back out, witch I have been, love the fact of how much you put wildlife first in your vids, I live and walk through bothal about 2 times a week and iv never found this camp haha
Its a few hundred meters upstream from the salmon jump on the north side of the river. Loads of people know about it now and has been trashed by other people camping there.
@@Fell_Wanderer yeah m8 I found it such a shame all destroyed and full of rubbish now 😡 still love bothal walk though, just ordered a kayak to try to do the wanny Mitford to ashington, just hope I survive lol
In Australia Billy No Mates is referred to as Nigel No Friends or just as Your a Nigel. Some spectacular forest scenery throughout the area where you captured this. The secret camp was an awesome find. Great video as always Damien.
Thank you very much for the shout out Damian and once again another great video, it's true what you say those are fine woods and what a find that camp was, it looks well built and with that wind blowing it made a great shelter. Great review of the bivvy too. I had a Rab storm and found it a bit claustrophobic but the weight and space saved made it a good choice especially on a long trip. About that camp I am sure there is someone living rough down there and moving about. Just the other day in the woods that stretch from Bothal towards Pegswood I came across someone building a make shift camp and looked like he had all his worldly goods in several plastic bags and a few weeks ago came across a hammock camp in the same woods. Sign of the times I suppose. Once again really enjoyed the trip and review and pleased you got a train going over lol. Great stuff. Atb. Mick.
blamhof If I was living rough then those woods would be an ideal place to hang out, not far from civilisation yet far enough away to give a sense of isolation. I was lucky to catch the train going over, all the times I've been down there fishing I rarely seen them and that time I saw two, one just after the other but only showed one in the video, I guess its like buses where you don't get any for ages two turn up at the same time. The river has totally dropped because of the damage to the salmon jump, its confusing because I can normally tell where I am from the state of the river but it is so low now I thought I was further upstream till I actually got to the saw mill and seen all the damage. I wanted to show the old drift mine entrance on the north side of the river but totally missed it and was getting dark so had to find somewhere to camp, anyway look forward to your next video, Northumberland is a wild and beautiful place and I'm sure you will come up with somewhere interesting, Atb, Damian.
Fell Wanderer Funny you mention the drift mine Damian because I was looking for it in my video and had passed it too without realising, as you say the river has changed with the opening of the salmon jump.
I know that area very well slept in those woods many a time. Years ago there was a tramp lived rough up there he had a shack way over the other side from where you were. Good to see you've been down to Cambois for your flint. Another great video ...............Cheers
thornwarbler I've not explored the other side yet as there isn't a decent path to follow, that river walk is really nice especially in spring with the wild garlic and bluebells. Cambois beach is full of flint and I now have enough to last me years, atb, Damian
Nice one Damien, great location, but what a find . Reminded me of Saltburn valley gardens with the viaduct. Like you say its finding these locations that are nt to near public places. Loved how you got that fire going with the flint and berch bark. ATB gaz :D
as always mate, great vid, and what a find , thinking about a bivy bag, just bought a canvas tarp, so fancy a bit ground dwelling, havnt done it since i was in the army , fancy the usa sleep system, big but good allrounder, so ganna have ta way up the pros and cons, love ya vids as ya na, keep em coming, and if iver ya want a camp buddy, giz a hollow, ;)
northeastbushcrafter John, check out bex bugoutsurvivor on youtube, he has some good videos and info on the USGI military modular sleep system, might be what you are looking for, some say its a little heavy and you might pay more with import duty but worth a look, I still think a goretex ex military bag is the way forward and is the best for all round performance unless you want to pay top dollar for e-vent or similar. Mate, I don't like camping with the crowd so lets sort something out, maybe do the secret camp sometime?.. you will love it, Atb, Damian.
ive got bex, cracking channel, ill take a look, when ya camping in the winter, what season bag do you use mate, my pals getting me a gotrex bivvy bag from his stores in the army for xmas so ill have one of them, with me getting that canvas tarp, i just fancy getting a bit of ground dwelling done, your welcome on any of my camps mate, infact me and the lads were talking about ya on the vid im uploading at the min, everyone speeks highly of ya and love ya channel, but i understand about crouds bro, we def need to get a meet sorted, and i hope we do soon, ive just changed me job to 4 on 4 off so hopefully ganna get out more now, atb to you and yours bro, john
northeastbushcrafter John, I'm spur of the moment when it comes to camping and weekends is normally best for me unless the kids are on holiday then I'm free sometimes through the week, I've got nowt planned this weekend so let me know what your planning. The temperature is dropping and even though I've got a 3 season bag, comfort rating down to 4 degrees C thats all I normally use even in winter, if its below freezing I up the rating by including a space blanket, wearing thermals or lighting a fire, it never gets really cold here in the UK and if its severe I've tried putting a summer bag into Wor Lass's bag before which is rated to zero degrees C and been warm and toasty in me shed to about -6 degrees so I've got options. Thanks for mentioning me in your video it looked like a great night, I never realised the lads from the North East enjoyed watching my videos so much, atb, Damian
jeffiow Thanks, I got the impression it took someone time and effort to make those shelters, there was even steps cut out into the bankside to get in and out of the area, a very well thought out camp and a pleasure to visit, atb, Damian
What a great little place to find!! No it's fairly rare to find people who want to do the wild camping after about the second week in September, so ''Billy no mates'' it is!! With the carbon steel blades, I wrap my Mora in some thin leather that's soaked up the olive oil when the weathers wet as I've heard the rat tail tang rusts inside the handle, all the best!!
Awesome vid dude, you are one of the most down to earth youtubers out there Mon. Would love to do an over nighter sometime if your up for it. I normally hammock nowadays but love to bivi also.
Very good vid. a lot better than some preppers vids. Really enjoy your style and the way you operate. ? Have you ever thought of coming over the border and taking in the Highlands, I think you would like it. Take care look forward to your next vid. Cheers
Bill Lamond Thanks for your comment its much appreciated, I've been to Scotland a few times over the years and if only I had a video camera back then as the scenery was beautiful, wished I had captured it but I still have pics and the memories, I'm back up soon once we get a motorhome but I'll be wild camping outdoors as sleeping in a metal box feels strange to me, atb, Damian
I never found out who made the shelter and they never came back. Other people found it not long after I made the video and pulled it to bits and left lots of rubbish.
The blocks are from the medieval ruins of Lady Chapel, situated between Morpeth and Bothal. It was probably first built in the mid-14th century, but it was rebuilt in the later 15th century. Some of the carvings from the chapel were taken to Bothal Castle in the early 19th century. Nearby a small holy well can be seen.
Hi Fell, what an interesting place and find. Good bit of effort has gone into that place, wonder who the owner was, lol. As for the kip, i find it hard to sleep in the bush also as i wake easily, so these days (early 40's) i use ear plugs, cant hear a thing and go right out. Just an idea mate. Cheers Moose
Got held back with a work change so had to cancel tonight. Hopefully tomorrow. Stonethwaite camping with the kids from Friday, will be packed but the kids love that and it's the only time I endure crowds over summer for em
great video, went on my first wild camp last week, used a wood gas stove. I was concerned about starting a campfire in the woods. Not sure how I stand legally, is it okay to have a small campfire. Or is it a no-no. Can't wait for the next video. All the best:
Lance Balzaretti technically you need the permission of the land owner, not sure about public land, although most of the time camping aint allowed so its best to check first and if your not sure, arrive late, leave early and leave not trace, atb, Damian
That camp has been discovered and the bushcraft shelter's have been destroyed. Its a real shame and people have left rubbish there. I maybe partly to blame after uploading videos of the area. People were messaging me saying they had found the camp and was trashed soon afterwards.
Great as usual ,but just a suggestion.Recreate your wild camp in the Kayak when you caught a trout and cooked it.It has 302 thousand views it would boost your channel Thanks Paul.
The kayak video you mention does well because its on of my earliest uploads and a few years old. Bike packing videos do well also but I upload whatever I'm enjoying at the time and not thinking about the views or trying to make the channel better than it already is. I don't have any goals about where the channel is heading other than creating memories for myself and sharing what I do with others who enjoy watching.
@@Fell_Wanderer what a great person you are ,we are not on this planet that long and should make the most of the time enjoying ourselves instead of making money for ourselves and others and get back to basics and enjoy the short time we have . You know it makes sense.😵💫
I can't see anything, might be pareidolia where shapes in the background can play tricks on the mind. In the woods I see tree stumps that look like figures standing there. It can be quite unnerving while camping alone.
I found some on Cambois beach near Newbiggin, most beaches should have it, looks like any round pebbles and rocks until you break them and get the sharp shards of flint. the colours are a marbly black, blue and white. Once you find one piece you will start noticing lots of it
The trains pass over regular and I've been meaning to capture a pic as they cross. Its a beautiful location and the view from the train only lasts the blink of an eye.
any idea if this is still there? went looking for it today, not sure if i went far enough from the picnic area though. reckon that'll be the perfect spot for my 1st wild camp!
Excellent vid! Finding the "Secret Camp" was an absolute bonus! Question: I noticed in the "Haunted" video, you had some sort of stereo audio recorder.. do you produce audio files as well?? The reason I ask is when it turns dark on this trip, and you're trying to light the fire, the wind is absolutely roaring in the background.. I've watched this video many, many times to fall asleep to simply because the gusting wind is recorded so well in this video. Would you consider posting a 2 or 3 hour "video" of nothing but gusty wind and maybe light showers? Thanks for the videos, they're inspiring!!
I only take an audio recorder when visiting Harwood forest and let it run all night, it picks up wind and widlife and is quite therapeutic to listen to, the wind tends to spoil the listening for wildlife as all you can hear is the trees creeking and wind blowing. I could put a sound file on my google drive and let people download it. I'll try and do that soon, ATB, Damian.
Edogawa1117 I suppose anyone detemined to find the camp could fine comb the woods and find it eventually, I only hope they look after it and leave no trace like I did, thanks for watching.
I could imagine the final layer of them camps been made of fresh green leaf branches making the roof more water proof then you gave credit but over time the leafage has died an wilted.
Galactic Federation Bubba, a debris shelter can be made during any season, if made during summer you have the green leaves as cover, if made in the winter you just cover with dead leaves or with what ever else is lying around, moss, bark etc..
log supplier Its sounds more like a bark to me, it might have been a pheasant call muffled by the wind as they were everywhere, thanks for your comment
I'm the opposite and really poor at maths unless I use a calculater, but I can tell when words look wrong because the spelling doesn't look quite right.
Good skills with the natural flint and char cloth. Good spot you found there - I'd have been chuffed myself. Only criticism, shite noodles - the one's from a Chinese shop are far superior! Hahaha
39:58 Ray Mears grinning building a big fire looking up under the man trap he set with Bear Grylls in it. I’m joking Bears ok..........Question. does a Bear shit in the woods?...Answer. No way he waits until filming has stopped then he goes back to the hotel.
well me and the missus are over the moon ya made another video, I know its a few days old but it shows ya are ok and nowt wrong with ya,I am getting adicted to ya vids marra so keep them coming.

goonluv Had a look at your video and thats a beautiful location, just a short walk from your home to the river, what a nice spot to chill out, I wont give give the location away on here but I think you are not far from a bridge with a lovely pub called the Plough and a castle up the hill and around the bend ;-)

With the carbon steel blades, I wrap my Mora in some thin leather that's soaked up the olive oil when the weathers wet as I've heard the rat tail tang rusts inside the handle, all the best!!
Excellent that mate, everyone's goin to be on the hunt for that place now lol
Stephen Largue I only hope it doesn't get wrecked as its a lovely place and took someone a while to build, atb, Damian
Just about to shout, 'you left your sausage behind' lol, great camp buddy.
Another great vid Damian, looks a lovely spot!!!!
Take care

Love your videos dude keep up the good work my man
Cameron Yarbrough Cheers and thanks for watching
What a great place to find, wonder who set that up? just chills me out watching your vids, thanks for all the work on these uploads, cheers, Dave
I never found out who made the shelter and they never came back. Other people found it not long after I made the video and pulled it to bits and left lots of rubbish.
@@Fell_Wanderer That's a Shame, unfortunately there's always some idiots to spoil things
Looks like you had a good time and what find. Cheers!
Stanley Sprow Thank you, atb, Damian
excellent video again i enjoy it keep them come

thomas sorbie thanks for watching, atb, Damian
Nice find Damian, thanks for taking us along. atvb t ..
6:05 Lots of blocks about, what used to be there ?
The blocks are from the medieval ruins of Lady Chapel, situated between Morpeth and Bothal. It was probably first built in the mid-14th century, but it was rebuilt in the later 15th century. Some of the carvings from the chapel were taken to Bothal Castle in the early 19th century. Nearby a small holy well can be seen.
@@Fell_Wanderer Thanks :)
nice to see you back again,i was getting withdrawal symptoms
Stupot 123 Pleased you enjoyed it, thanks for watching, Damian
A great video once again pal!!
howard lee Thanks for watching
Hi Fell, what an interesting place and find. Good bit of effort has gone into that place, wonder who the owner was, lol. As for the kip, i find it hard to sleep in the bush also as i wake easily, so these days (early 40's) i use ear plugs, cant hear a thing and go right out. Just an idea mate. Cheers Moose
great vid. my new stomping ground since i moved to morpeth. heading up there in hour!
Its feeling a bit close and sky looks dark, might be due a thunderstorm so take care. Thanks for watching..
Got held back with a work change so had to cancel tonight. Hopefully tomorrow. Stonethwaite camping with the kids from Friday, will be packed but the kids love that and it's the only time I endure crowds over summer for em
Good job Bigfoot didn't come home and find you sleeping on his living room floor :-) Great video as always!
Neil Morris Thanks for watching, atb, Damian
great video, went on my first wild camp last week, used a wood gas stove. I was concerned about starting a campfire in the woods. Not sure how I stand legally, is it okay to have a small campfire. Or is it a no-no.
Can't wait for the next video. All the best:
Lance Balzaretti technically you need the permission of the land owner, not sure about public land, although most of the time camping aint allowed so its best to check first and if your not sure, arrive late, leave early and leave not trace, atb, Damian
great video as usual Damien, I think the domed shelter is based on a native American Indian "Wicky up" atb veitchy 64
great video mate i really enjoyed it. great find aswell atb mo
Mo and Gill Outdoors Thanks for the comment, atb, Damian
Really enjoyed that.Thanks.
That's some class A bivvy making in the secret camp!
That camp has been discovered and the bushcraft shelter's have been destroyed. Its a real shame and people have left rubbish there. I maybe partly to blame after uploading videos of the area. People were messaging me saying they had found the camp and was trashed soon afterwards.
@@Fell_Wanderer Arseholes.
Great as usual ,but just a suggestion.Recreate your wild camp in the Kayak when you caught a trout and cooked it.It has 302 thousand views it would boost your channel
Thanks Paul.
Great job getting g that fire going 👏👏
i love ya man..your real..from across the pond los angeles
great vids really like the reviews keep up the good work
DnA GoWild Thanks
@14:13 it did actually look like there was something moving to the far right. Could be wrong
I can't see anything, might be pareidolia where shapes in the background can play tricks on the mind. In the woods I see tree stumps that look like figures standing there. It can be quite unnerving while camping alone.
we all waffle.....thats how we learn and teach.....good vid ..keep it up
Are you a local lad, Morpeth/Pegswood I'm liking your ramblings, very informative 👍
I live in that general area of SE Northumberland, thanks for your comment.
Hey mate loving the vids can I ask what beach you found the flint on I'm desperate to find some I live near amble
I found some on Cambois beach near Newbiggin, most beaches should have it, looks like any round pebbles and rocks until you break them and get the sharp shards of flint. the colours are a marbly black, blue and white. Once you find one piece you will start noticing lots of it
Pegswood viaduct on the east coast mainline. Trains run from London to Edinburgh. Its a lovely sight.
The trains pass over regular and I've been meaning to capture a pic as they cross. Its a beautiful location and the view from the train only lasts the blink of an eye.
any idea if this is still there? went looking for it today, not sure if i went far enough from the picnic area though. reckon that'll be the perfect spot for my 1st wild camp!
the shelter has been took down but still a nice place to camp can send you the grid reference or email a map, whatever you like?
its about 150 meters up river from the salmon jump, look for a track on the right and walk up the hill about 50 meters

You must have scared the Hobbits off bro, hey awesome vid too.
I think Carlisle 192 has been creeping about ha ha ha good vid
That camp has been totally pulled down now, its a shame as it was such a lovely place. Thanks for watching.
I've watched this video many, many times to fall asleep to simply because the gusting wind is recorded so well
in this video.
Awesome!!! Looking forward to it!!
Mint video bud, I know Mick Lee lol worked at coca cola with him 👌👍
Just about to watch another as I chill with some Mary Jane 😊 appreciate it
A very interesting video. The food looked lovely. All very historic to boot. phil
wildphil64 Thanks for watching, atb, Damian
Lovely video again,mate.
Aren't you giving your campsites away too easily?
Edogawa1117 I suppose anyone detemined to find the camp could fine comb the woods and find it eventually, I only hope they look after it and leave no trace like I did, thanks for watching.
I could imagine the final layer of them camps been made of fresh green leaf branches making the roof more water proof then you gave credit but over time the leafage has died an wilted.
Galactic Federation Bubba, a debris shelter can be made during any season, if made during summer you have the green leaves as cover, if made in the winter you just cover with dead leaves or with what ever else is lying around, moss, bark etc..
great video local too...
at 20.23 does anyone else hear a deep sigh?
log supplier Its sounds more like a bark to me, it might have been a pheasant call muffled by the wind as they were everywhere, thanks for your comment
I've always had a mind ilke a seive (spelling?), except for numbers.
I'm the opposite and really poor at maths unless I use a calculater, but I can tell when words look wrong because the spelling doesn't look quite right.
@@Fell_Wanderer I sometimes forget people's names if i haven't seen them for a while, been a few embarrasing occasions!
You made good fire cook on good shelter
Nice one. I have the Hunka XL :)
Classic looking Bigfoot nesting site. Good thing they are transient and were not in the are that night.
Saw this was 4 years old! Is it still there? Still using it?
Good skills with the natural flint and char cloth. Good spot you found there - I'd have been chuffed myself. Only criticism, shite noodles - the one's from a Chinese shop are far superior! Hahaha
Good vid as always you've got 1800 friends lol
Roy Tarquin Thank you for watching
39:58 Ray Mears grinning building a big fire looking up under the man trap he set with Bear Grylls in it. I’m joking Bears ok..........Question. does a Bear shit in the woods?...Answer. No way he waits until filming has stopped then he goes back to the hotel.

It ain't your memory gettin worse....It's the holes in the sieve gettin bigger...
Makes me laugh when they film themselves walking along. You know they set up the camera. Walked away, turned around and walked back. I just find it amusing for some reason
Its called film making, thanks for your comment. ATB.
