As an American there are a lot of foods that I enjoy that apparently you can't get in Canada, and today I want to find out what those foods are. If you enjoyed the video feel free to leave a comment, like, or subscribe for more!
Speaking as an American who is now Canadian, Vachon was always better than Little Debbie, IMO.
I'm pretty sure that the Canadian requirement for packaging to be in French presents a barrier to some companies. The market share may not be worth the cost.
I don't understand your comments at all. We get products from overseas to Canada that are written in 2 languages all the time. Not just French. They'll be Chinese writing on something.Or turkish writing et cetera. I cannot see that that would be a problem whatsoever, they just sent set the printer to print the wrappers the same way they would with any other wrappers.
I just spent some time in Europe and some of their products have more than 2 languages on them. This is actually a worldwide thing. But maybe because you're american you don't realize that because your stuff is just printed in one language?
@@personincognito3989 First of all, I'm Canadian, no longer American. Second, companies routinely make the decision that they won't pull a large enough market share to commit the resources to adapt their packaging for one specific market. Perhaps studying elementary economics might help you understand.
It's not about language it's about competition (which you touched on in the reply). Regardless, Vachon IS superior (not just my opinion but seems to be the consensus among a lot of first-time taste tasters.). Canada has stricter food rules so while packaged food is not healthy for anyone to consume I'd rather take my chances with what is allowed in ours..lol
You are absolutely right. That is why so many American products don't make it to Canada. The French/English thing is too much for them to comprehend.
@@personincognito3989 The answer to your question is in your comment. 'we get products from overseas' Europe and Asia are used to providing information in several languages and do so routinely. USA companies can't be bothered for what they figure is a small market. A lot of what Americans love are nonstarters in Canada.
Vachon is the Canadian equivalent of Little Debbie. Their array of products is pretty much the same types of snack cakes. I've never had a Little Debbie Product in my 66 years. I expect you don't have Vachon products in America.
I didn't hear about Little Debbie until a family member went to Montana and saw it there and tried it. She loved it and bought 12 packages to bring home.
We have little Debbie in ottawa
@timithius Ditto that. I'm also in my 60s and I've never had a Little Debbie item ever, but I have enjoyed Vachon products, usually the Ah Caramels, when I was younger and didn't care about excess sugar.
We also have Little Debbie in Quebec @@chrismuller4530
Vachon over Little Debbie.
'Scuse me, gotta go have myself a Passion Flakie (or 2).
Most of these products we have local, Canadian made alternatives. These are usually better then what Americans try selling us. Vachon anyone!
Vachon is the best in everything !
Yes , We got Vachon and Hostess they're very good
There's a Jos Louis in my lunch today. Oh Caramel tomorrow!
No one ever mentions Mae West and half moons when mentioning Vachon.
@@mw-wl2hm There are 1/2 Lune Moons in the pantry. Have you ever had a Super Mae West? Passion Flakie this week too.
Canada has uncrustables now
We have them but i see no interest in it.
Why??? Did we ask for them??? 😂
The concept weirds me out! Lol
I have become a connoisseur of the Uncrustables since they arrived at Costco.
None of the stuff we don't get matters an iota to me. We have Kinder-eggs, Smarties, Hickery-sticks, Cadbury products, Flake bars, and bazilions of different types of ketchup chips, so we have our own junk food, thanks very much. Also, I don't like the strange "puke-like" after-taste of American chocolate.
Coffee crisp is among my faves as a Canadian citizen since I was 4 but born in the states 😂
Don't forget Hawkins Cheezies and Pillsbury Pizza Pops. Ironically, Pillsbury is a General Mills brand
@@dougbrowning82 I am pretty sure I have heard an American (maybe Tyler?) say that they have Pizza Pops.
They can carry guns but the US is the only place to ban kinder surprise for safety issues. I agree with everything you said - particularly the last one.. Hershey is gross. According to Europeans our version of their chocolate (Cadbury) isn't as good as theirs but I think we can all agree none is as bad as American - I think the lax food rules is why they say 'candy bar' and not chocolate bar.
That's really a rude way to describe American chocolate. You know that there are some Americans who read these comments & that is not a kind descriptor for them to read about something that is theirs' & dear to their hearts. I don't think many of us would be happy if a European described our chocolate that way, even if in comparison to a lot of theirs', our's is pretty poor.
I work in a bakery, & I don’t miss carrying Little Debbie at all. Over the years sales were…meh, & it was a pain in the ass to fit it on the shelf, when sales didn’t really warrant the space for them. Personally, Vachon in better in quality
Even Dollarama carries Little Debbie
Yes, so does my local Metro
Yeah
Not for much longer! "Yes, Little Debbie snacks are no longer available in Canada. The brand confirmed this unfortunate news, and it wasn’t their decision to pull the products from Canadian store shelves. The sole distributor in Canada chose to terminate their business relationship with Little Debbie for reasons of their own"
During the 2022 dispute between Lays / Doritoes and Loblaws, Dollarama still had Lays / Doritoes on the shelves. Most of the products Tyler listed were discontinued in 2022 - likely due to similar disputes. Glad Dollarama etc saw the business opportunity and took it.
😂
if they made a Netflix documentary about little Debbie not being available in Canada it would be put on the American only Netflix and Canadians would never know
Well, obviously we are not missing much! OMG we have to cut the crust off our own sandwiches!!!! Never noticed that little Debbie was gone. There has always been a better alternative here. If something was here and is no longer, it's because it either doesn't sell here or has chemicals that are banned here.
Nope, it's language laws most of the time
I've seen nearly all of these in Canada. I even remember when A and W made cream soda, but it was dropped due to poor sales.
I remember when Bugles came in a box.🇨🇦
"Uncrustables" and "Bagel Bites" are available in 🇨🇦 at Walmart, Metro, Giant Tiger. Bugles, I grew up on them. Miss them big time😭 along with Little Debbie's Oatmeal Cream Pies.
That's what I thought actually.I don't eat them but I there at Walmart 😮
Bugles were good but I don't miss them as an adult
As for the Little Debbie Cakes; didn't realize they were gone; don't care if they come back.
They're not gone
Little Debbie’s are gross.
But we have little debbies lol, im in Ontario and can get the cookies and the honey buns. Ive seen the other little debbie snacks as well
Tastes like chemicals, Vachon for the win
I use to eat bugles when I was little didn't realize they don't have them either lol
Actually it's false. We do in fact have Little Debbie's. We have the cosmic brownies, zebra cakes, the swiss rolls, the oatmeal cream pies and the uncrustables in Canada, and we still have them. Also we did use to have the bagel bites, but these were removed.
You forgot the honey buns!
Bagel bites are back in Canada
Bagel bites are available in my area. NS
Don't know what part of Canada you're in, but Little Debbie's stopped shipping their products here at the end of Nov 2022. Have not seen any Little Debbie's products in any store that used to sell them in over a year and a half! If you're still seeing the product on shelves in 2024, I'd be checking the 'best before' date. 😎
Many products disappeared after the pandemic.
Was just talking about Bagel Bites the other day... realized that I haven't seen them in a while.... I love those things.
Walmart has had them back for a few months. They are in the western Canadian walmart flyer
@@joannepreston611 Sweet, thanks.
At 71 I never had any of these in my 47 years in Canada and don't feel I missed out on anything 😉
This is why every roadtrip to the USA requires a stop at one of those giant gas stations you guys have to buy all the USA exclusive junk food
Yes!! Lol
A&W does actually exist in the US as a fast food restaurant chain, but it's smaller and unrelated to the Canadian brand. Its menu is completely different.
Tim Hortons is in America to and the menu is completely different as well.
@@ryans413 Even McDonald's has items unique to each country.
He made a video covering this last month
Bugles used to be sold in Canada. I miss those little snacks.
I remember bugles when I was a kid in Ontario. Always thought they were gross.
They were fun to wear on your fingers, but that’s about it. 😂
I had a bag of Bugles just yesterday. I don't know what they're talking about.
Not in Ontario…at least in Loblaws
Send some to Alberta, I’m now craving Bugles..Please 🥹
Read the expiry date they must be three years old
@@edwardlazich1140 😳
One brand, Keebler cookies, I've seen commercials for all my life, but never tried as they've never been available in Canada.
I will tell you a little tale about how US companies try to enter the Canadian market without a clue about the market. This is true.
In the 70s Hershey Chocolate decided to move their bars into Canada. So they shipped them up here in their dark brown wrappers and American chocolate. They failed miserably. They had to hire a Canadian marketing firm to tell them what had gone wrong. Any Canadian could have told them that Canadians preferred milk chocolate (that was then not now when people want 80% or whatever dark chocolate) I think that is a hangover from British chocolate which is a lot better than any in North America) They also were totally turned off by the dark brown wrappers. Canadians preferred light colourful wrappers. So they had to create a shiny gold and white wrapper for their bars and also changed the formula of their chocolate to make a dent in the Canadian market. After a few years, they went back to a darker wrapper but the chocolate is still different. Same with Starbucks. They thought coffee was coffee. Not in Canada. We hated the really dark burnt taste of Starbucks coffee so they had to come with True North blend which is a blonde type of coffee. BTW a lot of Starbucks are closing in Canada. They can't compete with Tim Hortons, and Starbucks are unionized in Canada, making it unprofitable for the franchises, so they are shutting their doors. US businesses think that the Canadian market is just the same as the USA one. It's not and they find out to their peril.
Many many years ago when I was child we would be able to get Bugles near Christmas time. My grandma would only put them out on Christmas eve with a couple containers of flavoured cream cheese. Best snack ever!
When I was little and my family would go camping, we would always have bugles to snack on. My brother used to roast them over the campfire.
I loved little Debbie and didn't realize they were gone because I don't eat much sweats except for what I make myself now
I've seen Little Debbie on sale at the local Dollarama, so it does exist in Canada, even if it's not as common as other brands.
Umm Uncrustables and Bagel Bites are available on the shelf in the stores of my Canadian city 🤷♀️ they're very yummy 😋🤤
I live in Ontario and we still get some Little Debbie's, we have Uncrustables (the Toronto Blue Jays promote them) and we have Bugles.
Can get little debbie's in Canada.
Not ALL of their product lines, but a few.
Honey buns, brownies, swiss rolls. (Haven't seen the oatmeal cream pies for quite a while. And i remember zebra cakes were on shelves for a long time ago, for a year or two, but eventually removed due to lack of sales)
We have all of it in New-Brunswick....
We still have the oatmeal cream pies
I’m a Canadian in my 50s , never had ‘Little Debbie’ anything.
And you can’t miss what you never had. It just wasn’t popular
3:24 "It would almost have been better to have never had the Little Debbie snack cakes..." -- Or, as Neil Peart put it in the song _Losing It_ (which was not about snack cakes):
Sadder still to watch it die
Than never to have known it
Bugles are available in Canada.
Many of these products are still sold near the border. However, other than manufacturing and low sales, we do have equivalent products under different brand names. In general, they're quality is better. This is because Health Canada has stricter policies when it comes to chemicals in foods. This is why our foods are generally better tasting. Compare a Hershey product with a Cadbury/Nestle product for example. Same idea, different brand. Blind taste test them, you'd quickly see that Cadbury/Nestle has a better taste due to the lack of severe preservatives that are banned here.
Hey all Canadians!! If alot of these "US" products were supposedly discontinued here in 2022/23 then check the manufacturing dates - you know some of this stuff supposedly lasts for decades! (twinkies anyone??) LOL!!😅
Uncrustables are available in Walmarts in the National Capital Region (Gatineau) and I’m pretty sure Little Debby is available at my local Loblaws!
George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays have been in ads for Uncrustables since last year in Canada. I've never tried one, but as far as I can tell they are available at most grocery stores.
We still have little Debbie's on the shelves here in BC Canada. I also saw the crustless thingies in the freezer section just yesterday.
A & W, we don't have that at all. Bugles are here too, I don't like them but we have them.
I was so disappointed when they took little debbie snack cakes. I so miss hunny buns and the pumpkin cookies that came out around Halloween.
I am a full blood Canadian, born and raised. I have never seen a "Little Debbie" anything here in Canada.
I can tell you how we survive: we have better, less sugary, less fatty confections. For example: Old Dutch Ketchup (not katsup) chips, smarties which are not the same as your smarties, which we call rockets. Our smarties are similar to M&Ms, but better
We have Little Debbie’s and Bugles in Canada! Uncrustables entered the Canadian market, about a year ago!
We had little Debbie until sometime last year. Vachon is a Canadian brand that has similar products and in my opinion they taste better for the most part too!
My favorite part of the bread is the crust and the heal
As a 30 odd year old Canadian.
Can't think I've ever seen Little Debbie products, maybe they never sold them to the grocery stores I visited.
Seen commercials for uncrustables but they never interested me. personally, Peanut Butter exist. Jam/Jelly exist. and bread exist. Not that hard to make a PB&J sandwich.
A&W Cream Soda? Never heard of it. also, 1.5 litres? that is a weird volume to sell things at.
I remember Bugles. though, honestly, I have always been more of the other brands like Doritos (Jalapeno Cheddar), Lays, Old Dutch, Ms. Vickies to name a few
I again remember Bagel Bites. But, I also remember them being very expensive for a package. they were good, but again, I'm not missing them too much.
What i do miss, is getting that little loaf of warm, buttered, sliced bread, with my KFC.
Aaaaaaaand reeeeeeeally miss the popcorn chicken mashed potato bowls. 😒
We no longer have Little Debbie products. That article was totally true, especially for the region of Ontario.
Not true here in new Brunswick
We have them at Wal-Mart in Québec.
And we have them in southern Ontario (at least in the Golden Horseshoe/Tech Triangle region)
@timcarder2170 Which town or city in Southern Ontario are Little Debbie products still available in. I live in the GTA and haven't seen any years. I really loved Little Debbie Swiss Rolls and couldn't stomach the Vachon's version. The next time I'm going to Niagara Falls for something, I'll head down to your town/city and pick up a couple of months' supply. Hopefully, you have a Walmart or No Frills.
A Ho Ho is a Swiss Roll?? I've never known that! I hear characters on TV talk about Ho Hos and I literally never knew what they were.
Whenever my family and I travel to the US, we love walking down the snack and cereal aisle for things we can't get here. Sweet tea is the main one, my husband as a truck driver always has to bring a jug home when he crosses the border, but you guys also have way better Pop Tart flavours and cereals that we can't get here.
A friend of mine was a distributor for Little Debbie's in Ontario, Canada for yrs, up until 4-5 yrs ago.
I wish we still had Bugels, they were great, but we aren't missing much with the rest of that list. There's nothing on it that we dont have something as good or better up here. And A&W is, in my mind, most comparable to Wendy's, but the better burger. If youre thinking something along the lines of Wendy's or Burger King, but you wanna treat yourself, you go to A&W.
I miss the Cheesy Baked Potato Hamburger Helper here in Canada. It was my favourite meal, and then it was taken away.
It's been a few years since I've seen Bugles and Little Debbies. I miss potato rings too!
I was born and still live in Ontario,. Not once in my life have I ever seen them on any shelf in all the stores I've been in. I've lived in multiple locations and never seen them. Vachon has a large part of the competition.
These products were probably sold just in certain areas of Canada. I am 78 years old and have never seen Little Debbie canywhere I shopped.
I live in Quebec city (province of Québec), we do have bagel bites and bugles at supermarket, also somes place has Miss Debbie cake like (Maxi, Wal mart and gas stations)!
I feel someone’s sending you on a false path of Canadian facts. Maybe they based it off one area or one city of Canada? No idea. There’s no shortages here in ontario and again all is available. People think it’s not cause they don’t actually look for such things. Assume because they never seen it it must not exist. lol
Little Debbie snacks are banned in Canada because of the food preservatives in it and chemicals that not good for human consumption due to that it can cause heart attacks, adhd, infertility.
We have bugles in Canada.
Hi, in 2022 we (at least in Québec, but probably in other provinces too) were still under very strict COVID restriction, which obviously pushed forward the foodpocalypse as many company seeing their numbers going down have to revised their inventory from A to Z which led some distributors to drop some brands.
little Debbie and bagel bites hurt me the most and probably most Canadians.
I've tried the ones that were at one point available in Canada and I don't remember really liking any of them. I think the only one I never did was the Bagel Bites. The one that I really miss is the Ragu pasta sauce. I've been having a hell of a time finding a replacement that I like instead of just can tolerate
I could be wrong about this but in 2022 (and I’m sure You will mention this) we also lost Stoufers. They were the BEST frozen dinners in my opinion and now they’re gone 😭
I’m a Canadian and I’ve never heard of half of these things
Every Canadian born in the 80s/90s has put Buggles on each finger to make claws at some point in their life.
To be honest, I don't remember ever seeing Little Debbie products in Ontario, so I'm not missing them at all. There are lots of similar Canadian products.
uncrustables very recently came to Canada (i was very happy having tried them in the states before) we only have the pb&j and "nutella" ones tho. And yes Tyler, some people will drive over the boarder just to get snacks! (especially when the dollar is better)
Along with oatmeal cream cakes , warm one up with vanilla iced cream , your source in a liar lol
I don't know about the rest of Canada but, here in BC we get bugles around Christmas Time.
I've seen Little Debbies in our Dollarama. Maybe they bought up what was left before they pulled out. I've never heard of Uncrustables.
I’ve had Little Debbie Swiss rolls here in Alberta. I didn’t realize they were gone.
Well i guess it depends in which provinces you live, in Quebec we can buy all of this food at Walmart and Costco.... I bought Chocolate Uncrustables and Bagel bites last week ... All General Mills products are huge here. Never saw Doritos light tho but wouldn't buy it anyway.
There's crustables here in Canada I work in a grocery store and stock it in our freezer
We used to have Little Debbie snacks in Canada a little while ago. Haven't seen any in about a year
George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr famously have TV ads for Uncrustables. They are available in Canada as of 2024.
A&W along with the other brands distributed by Dr. Pepper are split in Canada among Coke and Pepsi. A&W is on the Coke side and they opted out of Cream Soda. There are A&W restaurants in the US but they are owned by a different company than A&W Canada and are not growing the same as in Canada.
ROFLMGBFFAO!!!!!!!
OMG!😆😆😆😆😆😆😂😂🤣🤣 even that article was toned down.
*Olestra* didn't *'just'* cause cramping and diarrhea.... it also was famous for having in its list of side effects, the globally disturbing phrase;
*"MAY CAUSE ANAL LEAKAGE".*
(Meaning, you could shit yourself, without noticing right away)
Could pass as a diet supplement 😜
Where I work we sold the Little Debbie stuff ... and then we stopped in 2022... it was really a shame because we have a lot of customers who really enjoyed them.
Canada does have uncrustables. We’ve had them for a while. You can get them at Costco and most grocery stores.
Little Debbie's are in Canada depending on the location usually any town near the American border has them while Provances not near the USA do not have them
Dollarama here in alberta still have little Debbies but recently no longer sell bugles was 1.00 a bag..I use to get a bag spicy cheese n a peperoni stick .89 for my lunch..nice cheap snack
I love those oatmeal cream pies, wish we had them... I think a lot of these things are regional, rather than Canada wide
I have seen these in stores, and I have seen other brands carry similar products.
In Winnipeg you can still buy Little Debbie's at Dollarama.
Tyler , you don't have Kinder Surprise!!! Ha ha ha.
Little Debbie didn't sell well here because there are better alternatives.
I have no idea what they are talking about with the cream soda. My daughter had some at a restraint just last Friday. I never thought to check for a bottled version as I never new it was supposed to be gone.
Uncrustables, A&W cream soda (4 pack bottles) are at my local Metro, you can still get actual branded Begal Bites at Giant Tiger here as well
Honestly the Little Debbie cakes are no great loss to us. We have our own local snacks which usually are far fresher and tastier than those things. I always found the Little Debbie products to be just overly sweet. I would occasionally eat them if given one but I would never purchase one for myself.
The article is just wrong about the Uncrustables. It's been in the grocery stores for the last couple years here in Calgary though I have never purchased one as peanut butter sandwiches are the easiest thing to make in the world. I don't need that convenience factor to save the 10 seconds it takes to make PB&J sandwich. Also the crust is the best part so...
The Cream Soda thing is true. We have Crush Cream Soda and occasionally Barq's Cream soda as well as a few varieties from smaller bottlers and store brands. I have tried the A&W variety but it isn't anything I find special.
The Bugles we do occasionally get, but they are fairly rare up here. We used to get them more frequently but now it is a rare treat to get a bag of them. I never got them often but every once in a while I would get a craving for some of them.
I have never even heard of Doritos Light, but given the description I wouldn't want them anyways.
I remember seeing Bagel Bites but I never tried them so I have no comment on whether that is a sad loss or not.
I recently had A&W Cream Soda here in a Québec. It’s just a limited edition.
We still do have Little Debbie products in Canada, I'm not sure what you guys are talking about but I live in Nova Scotia and we still have them.
We do have the up here now. The uncrustables
I remember trying Bugles, but they don't sell them here now...
I don't frequent the snacks isle at the Canadian supermarket. I have no idea of any of the snacks mentioned.
I love how most comments is about little Debbie’s, cuz as someone who’s lived in Quebec since I was 4, I knew we had these little Debbie equivalents, cuz we do have the cream pies and the cosmo brownies 😂
6:42 ok I’m guessing this article is old, cuz we have uncrustables! I had my first pbnj uncrustables a few months ago!
11:20 I checked the Walmart site. We still have bugles…
“Little Debbie pulled out in 2022”? I’ve never even heard of Little Debbie
Never heard of Little Debbie’s
Ate Bugles all the time as a kid.
FYI I live in Nova Scotia Canada. Even way out here I can buy little Debbies . But if they choose to stop selling here we always have Vachon to fall back on. PS they are better too.
I've seen them on the shelves but I've never actually eaten any of the Little Debbie products, so I don't miss them at all!
We can get A&W cream soda here at least I know I can get it in southern Ontario, also Bugles are available here unless it is something that has recentlyt been removed from the shelves
Never had a Little Debbie's product; never seen a Little Debbie's product in store (British Columbia). We have similar packaged foods though.
We have Little Debbie, Uncrustables, and Bugles, where I live. Definitely seen them, and since 2022. Bagel bites too, I think.
Yes we have these cakes and treats in Alverta, Canada.
I've definitely driven to the U.S. for foods/drinks we don't have (or flavours/varieties we don't have of foods we do)!
Especially everything at Trader Joe's. 😂
