I still don't get it. Why don't you learn things in school you will actually need later in life to survive? Like how to make money, how to keep it, how the economy works, how to get a job, how to do your taxes, how to get people skills, how to deal with anxiety, how to date etc.
I think it's because you need to be exposed to a bunch of different stimuli before you decide what you are interested in. Also, "people skills", "dealing with anxiety", and "how to date" takes many different approaches, some of it based on values and religion.
