    @SpazChat If you think that it was ONLY over money, you are sadly mistaken.Mary wasn't going to be a part of a "Diane" show with no input into the production of the show and she was not going to be a flagpole behind Diane If the tour had been done correctly, there would have been new arrangements, sophisticated choreography, and a new album of SUPREMES songs. That tour was Diane standing on a stage singing the songs while the other two stood 500 feet away on the football field. Mary said "no!"

    TWTR4EVER....I actually met Cindy Birdsong at a mall in LA 3 years ago {2010} and almost lost my mind. My friend with me was like "why are you trippin over this older lady"
    LOL? Anyway, after assuring her (I showed my iPhone with ALL The Supremes albums) that i wasn't some crazed fan (which i am actually) we had a 15 min convo. I asked her lyrics i hadn't understood since childhood ("Shine on Me" mostly) and why the Jean Supremes won't reunite? She was very pleasant and told me that Diana....

    @SpazChat All groups were set up with a lead singer and back-up singers......the group was always bigger than the lead singer. Ringo and George sang behind Paul and John. Flo and Mary sang behind Diane. THEY ARE ALL LEGENDS!!!!!!! Flo died and Mary makes millions of dollars a year just because she was once a background singer in the LEGENDARY SUPREMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's how big the SUPREMES WERE! What other background singer in a group makes more than Mary?

  • @TWTR4EVER
    @TWTR4EVER 13 лет назад

    Diane use THE SUPREMES with the blessings of Motown boss & lover Berry Gordy as a platform to build a "solo" career! She had fellow SUPREMES Florence Ballard ousted in 1966/67 when she would not accept her plan, she abandon the group 1969 and Mary Wilson against "hell & high waters" kept The Supremes alive until 1977 and her "KARMA" is "NO" solo legacy, THE SUPREMES are the legacy, every time she performs is to The Supremes achievements that she bows and receives applause from!

    As many times as I see it, I'm amazed at the idiot remarks left by some of the people who always show up on a DR post! Two in particular, one who claims that she has always tried to leave behind the Supremes legacy, when she ALWAYS acknowledges thier part in her career, and the other who thinks that youtube is in place only for his evil comments and opinions. Aging persona and deteriorating voice, still bringing joy to many. A lovely woman who has touched many people's hearts. I say BRAVO!

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 12 лет назад

    @SpazChat Yeah, I'll say that THE SUPREMES WERE THE FOUNDATION OF HER CAREER...................she claims to have 18 number one records.........................12 belong to the legendary SUPREMES! That's a whole lot more than a "foundation!!!" Every night, when she appears on her "oldies" tour, she appears as a SUPREMES TRIBUTE ARTIST! THE SUPREMES MADE HER A STAR and she is STILL capitalizing on THEIR legacy!

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @kurtsupreme I have no issue with Diane's solo career. My issue is that Diane uses The Supremes'songs to enhance her own legacy where, in reality, her solo career is a result of their legacy.During the Kennedy Center Honors, the Supremes were only referred to as "they" and "them" despite the fact that they sang THEIR songs as though they were recorded by her during her solo career. She won't appear on any interview if there are questions about the Supremes, the failed reunion, or any controversy

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 12 лет назад

    @TheReturnOfBigBear I have spoken to Mary during and after the RTL tour. I can assure you that I was more upset with the way that events unfolded than she was. If anything, she was very resigned to her decision....she was consoling ME! After all, in the end it was she that won that round. I remember seeing a photo of Mary in People Magazine after the cancellation of the tour. The caption read: ".........Mary Wilson digs her spiked heels over the ashes of the failed RTL tour...."

  • @kurtsupreme

    @kurtsupreme When asked, she still says that Flo left to start a family and that the group's name was changed to make more money as two acts. Another Berry Gordy favorite and Motown insider, Smokey Robinson, was the only other group name change that was allowed. Who cared? The Miracles were just another anonymous, faceless group where only the lead singer was known. With The Supremes, that was not the case. All three were recognizable and beloved.

    @kurtsupreme BG wanted to break into movies and saw Diane as his vehicle to do that; however, after 3 movies, BG moved out of the industry and Diane moved away from him and eventually Motown. BG gave Diane the best writers and producers that Motown had to offer to keep her "out there" despite flops and less than great recordings through the 1980's. She had three or four flops between hits. The Supremes were dying down and BG saw the movies and Diane as his new opportunity.

    @ParaFacSub I will tell you that no bonified fan of the legendary trio would EVER refer to them as DIANA ROSS AND THE SUPREMES. That name was only listed on 2 (Love Child and Someday) of the group's 12 number one hits. It boils my blood when I see greatest hit CD's released as DRATS. Even after the name change, people still referred to them as THE SUPREMES. After many years of marketing, your generation only knows them as DRATS. Do you see what I mean?

    @kurtsupreme Regarding Diane Ross "REMAKE" of Marvin Gaye & Tammy Terrell signature duet "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" you're right on target, remember the first single of Diane Ross as a "solo" from the same album "Reach Out And Touch" flop at #20 at The Billboard Top Pop 100 Singles Chart while THE SUPREMES "Up The Ladder To The Roof" their first with the GREAT JEAN TERREL was a Top #10 Hit!

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @ParaFacSub Again, you are talking about things that were not known at the time! THE SUPREMES were promoted as a GROUP! The American people were in love with all 3 ladies of the trio and THEY (not HER) were America's sweethearts! All of the information that we know now came out years later. Yes, we suspected that Berry had solo plans for Diane with the name change and putting her out (too much) in front..........but it was speculation at the time.

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @ParaFacSub Why do you think that Diane and her career have been so controversial? Other lead singers have left groups without issue. It is because Berry forced Diane down our throats, because it was at the expense of Mary and Flo, and because it has always been assumed that Diane also engineered her career in a backhanded, arrogant, sneaky way by "getting" Berry Gordy and using the relationship to her advantage. If Flo and HDH had stayed, the SUPREMES could have gone on for a much longer time

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 12 лет назад

    @TheReturnOfBigBear Again, Mary makes millions each year because she was a background VOCALIST (not a musician) in the orginal trio known as THE LEGENDARY SUPREMES! Flo, Mary, and Diane made musical history together. It might have been other girls; however, it wasn't!!!! it was FLO, MARY, and Diane. They all went down in musical history together...........why do you have such a hard time accepting that? THE SUPREMES WERE HUGE!...........all 3 together! What's wrong with you?

  • @motownbaby
    @motownbaby 10 лет назад

    ..She told that Diana had moved to LA and said that she (Cindy) was welcome to stay with her and keep her company. I couldn't believe my ears and Cindy said she declined (I didn't ask her to elaborate). I don't blame Diana for the Supremes problems being that they were so young...but I personally don't think they would have been stars without her! Until you've walked in someone else's shoes can you really judge them? Not going to bash you, but you should really be mindful of what you say!

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 12 лет назад

    @SpazChat It was a complete miscalculation on Diane and the promoter's part. Diane's people said that people wouldn't care who the other two ladies were and the promoters were too young and stupid to know that America remember Mary, Flo, and Cindy AND that they were having NONE of the charade. When Mary went public on 20/20 and ripped into Diane, that was the death knell for the RTL tour. Diane deserved every bit of the humiliation she received! I believe that Diane NEVER wanted Mary!

    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @ParaFacSub Look, you are too young to have been around when Diane was the lead singer of something that was bigger and greater than SHE was.....a record breking group tthat rivaled The Beatles.....the legendary Supremes. Flo, Mary, and Diane are known by name by everyone in my generation. Mary was not a lead singer; however, she was a member of one of the most iconic acts of all time. So huge were The Supremes that Mary can make a million dollars or more a year as a former background singer.

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @ParaFacSub... .and it is my contention that THE SUPREMES were the legend collectively... not Diane, that makes you angry! "Someday" was a number one record, not because it was so great, but because it was the swan song of the legendary SUPREMES and because it would be a fitting way to officially end the decade of tthe 1960's. It was the last number one song of 1969. It WAS a SUPREMES song. When Mary and Cindy sang it with Diane on television shows, it sounded much better than The Andantes.

  • @motownbaby
    @motownbaby 10 лет назад

    I just had to add that Mary Wilson is a LEGEND and I'm sure none of them would be happy to hear you bashing the others and messing up their record sales over some nonsense that went down almost 50 years ago when they were basically kids!!! GET OVER IT AND ENJOY THE MUSIC!!!!! But they really are/were some bad bitches!!!

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @kurtsupreme Again, I will ask you................just why do you think that there are so many "Diana" Ross haters (to use your term)? Just exactly why is she so controversial? Why does she have to lie and avoid questions? Why won't she discuss the SUPREMES openly and honestly? Why does she avoid giving the legacy of that group its due? Why does she sing those songs like they belong to her and that THE SUPREMES were some minor, non important group like The Royalettes?

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 12 лет назад

    @TheReturnOfBigBear What's wrong Big Bear? Why won't go to Dick's Diana Ross website and listen to Diane's contribution to "Ain't No Mountain High Enough?" Are you afraid that your bubble will be burst when you hear the cow trying to lull her foot out of the mud?

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @ParaFacSub Well, Diane is doing pretty well with her deteriorated voice and aging persona...........it hasn't stopped her! The difference is that when Mary sings these songs, she is paying homage to the GROUP! When Diane sings them, she is paying homage to HERSELF!!!!!!! That's a big difference!

  • @sammy7819

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 12 лет назад

    @SpazChat The fact that you just made that statement about the "dumbest business decisionever" tells me that you don't have a clue about what happened during the negotiations for the RTL tour. To begin with both Diane and Mary's values go up when you combine them as THE LEGENDARY SUPREMES. Diane did not believe that (after the cancellation, she would come to rue the day that she didn't believe that!). Also, it was not a SUPREMES reunion. It was a "DIane" show.

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @ParaFacSub You're provong my points again that all of your knowledge is revisionist history as a "Ross as a solo act" fan. All of the information of which you speak came out YEARS later. At the time, it was the farewell song by The legendary SUPREMES and the last number one song of the 1960's. I'm telling you how it was perceived AT THE TIME! There was NO concept of "Diana" Ross except as a member of the legendary trio. The concept of her as a solo artist wasjust being launched.

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 12 лет назад

    @SpazChat Cindy was a substitute SUPREME in the the first knock-off group from 1967-1970 known as "Diana" Ross and The Supremes. That group only had two number one hits and numerous flops. It's sole purpose was to prepare Diane for her solo career. The legendary trio (Flo, Diane, and Mary) are honorees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in the annuls of music history.................THAT'S WHO WANTS TO MENTION THOSE 'BAcK-UP SINGERS, you simpleton!!! Who cares about Cindy?

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    She has her nerve singing THEIR songs! In a cruel, ironic twist of fate, Diane, who spent the last 40 years trying to get up from under the legacy of the legendary trio, is now forced to bow before it! I never thought that I'd see the day that SHE would became a SUPREMES TRIBUTE ARTIST!!!!!!!!!! Oh, well! I guess she has to sing the oldies..........what else can she do with that deteriorated voice and aging persona?

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @ParaFacSub .Tthe FAILURE of the Return to Love Tour proved once and forever that the legend of The Supremes is greater than the sum of its individual parts..... and that DIANE is merely an individual part! Mary's absence contributed to the cancellation of the tour and Diane's humiliation. Diane should have known that people would have only accepted the Supremes with Mary and Cindy. Once again, Diane's huge ego and her "Ross as a solo act fan advisors" made a poor decision to leave Mary out.

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @ParaFacSub Look, you're young, you weren't there for the phenomenon that was THE SUPREMES, and you have settled for Diane as a solo act. The bottom line is that THE SUPREMES were just a better act than Mary or Diane ever were as solo performers. Diane's career was and continues to be heavily promoted and marketed. The Supremes have not been promoted since the mid 70's. I bash Diane because it is HER legacy that she promotes, not the legendary trio. THE SUPREMES were the legend, not DIANE!

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @ParaFacSub Mary would never have been a hugely successful lead singer; however, like Diane, her voice has deteriorated as well. When Mary does symphony tours with a full orchestra and special "Supreme like" background singers, she is just as "passable" as Diane. Let's not forget the fact that both of these ladies are nearing the age of 70.............both have lost what they once had. Mary was one of the Supremes and like Ringo Starr and George Harrison, that was enough to keep her out there!

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 13 лет назад

    @ParaFacSub I'm sorry...............I don't agree with one thing that you said in the previous message except that no one under the age of 45 knows who Mary Wilson is................................that fact proves my point that you and anyone under the age of 45 are too young to know what you are talking about when it comes to the legendary trio. You have all been programmed and conditioned (due to clever marketing and promotion) to be a "Ross as a solo act."

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 12 лет назад

    @SpazChat I never once said that Mary was a great singer. Both she and Diane BOTH sounded better in their day, however. I'm just saying that the original trio of the legendary SUPREMES as well as the first knock off group ("Diana" Ross and The Supremes) were merely better acts than Diane ever was as a solo performer. I don't care who loves Diane and who doesn't. The Supremes were incredibly special. Diane, as a solo act, has not been that or me. She leaves me cold!

  • @kurtsupreme
    @kurtsupreme 12 лет назад

    @TheReturnOfBigBear You don't even know how to have an engaging conversation. You just like to watch yourself write and rave on and on about Mary. Aside from checking Diane's raging ego on numerous ocassions and blowing the whistle on her behavior when it is over the line, just what has Mary Wilson done to you? You are like a person possessed where she is concerned. You sure give her a lot of power the way that you always put her down. What is your fear where she is concerned?
