Another interesting relative for you: Herman Goering's brother-in-law, Count von Rosen. He was a Swedish nobleman who financed the Finnish air force when that country gained its independence following the collapse of Russia. Out of gratitude, the Finns painted von Rosen's family emblem on their planes. This emblem was a swastika, taken from ancient runic carvings on von Rosen's estate. The Finnish air force sported swastikas before the Luftwaffe did.
@Jack Tangles Of course it is - everyone knows that. BUT - it's a fairly simple geometric design, and it would be astonishing if only one person had ever come up with it. Josef Goebbels' stepson Harald Quant, son of Magda by a previous marriage, survived the war to inherit (with his half-brother Herbert) his father's wide-ranging business interests - which included significant stakes in Daimler-Benz and BMW. Harald died in an air crash in 1967, but the business is still extant, being worth something like seven billion Euros today. As an aside, the quirk of giving all their children names beginning with H probably originated with Magda Goebbels, not Josef - though the latter certainly represented it as a compliment to "Uncle Adolf."
Ah yes another great piece from Dr. mark Felton, a wonderful piece of forgotten history with typically unseen footage. All the reasons why im subscribed to your channel.
Honestly Mark, You're teaching me so much about my favorite part of history than I could have ever got in the current education system. I wouldnt even know what to search on the internet to figure out this kinda stuff. I wanna take a moment and thank you, ive seen so many of your videos and they teach me so much. And just to clarify when I say favorite part of history I mean by what was happening all around the world at this time, its just so crazy to see what every country was doing and why they were doing it. There was good and evil on BOTH sides, but there were heroes on ALL sides.
Mark reminds me of my high school history teacher. He was the man that got me interested in history in the first place. I remember that the way he was teaching and presenting really got me fascinated. I could not wait for the next history lesson. Somehow he was so good that I never even opened my school history book (a good thing since I’m from Ukraine and at that time history they teach at schools got rewritten with every new elected president pretty much) and always got straight As. After discovering Mark’s channel I can’t wait for his new video, really similar feeling to the one I had before a history class 7 years ago. Thank you Mark for giving me that feeling of fascination to learn something new!
All I learned at school about history was the names of Kings and Pharaohs etc. They didn't teach interesting history like this, it was not until long after leaving school that I became interested in the more down to earth aspects of history such as Mark shares with us.
I had an amazing high school history teacher as well and I still think of how he sculpted his lectures into something so interesting everyone got involved in his class...............I cannot imagine people teach as he did today.
@StrategicPrepper that is fine when you are playing favorites with good people. The problem is when incompetent people are propped up, and profits suffer as a result. I see where you are coming from though, if people can back up their talk with results then I could care less... the problem is when guys get into jobs they aren't qualified for because they happen to sit in a bar stool next to the boss every night after work
A small correction, if I may, Mark: My grandfather was born in Düsseldorf and worked with Gauleiter Florian (among other things, he created the stands for the Schlageter memorial celebrations). The building shown is not the SA Headquarters in Düsseldorf. It is a building on the grounds of the Reich exhibition "Schaffendes Volk". The exhibition was opened on May 8th (sic) 1937 by Hermann Göring. Only one "SA Sturm" (SA subdivision) and, for a time, the "Gauleitung" were housed on the site. The two huge horsmen sculpted out of granite formed the entrance to the exhibition. They are still in place today.
Mark Felton you are a brilliant communicator! Your descriptions are superbly paced and your German pronunciation is perfect! These excellent history packages should be aired on national tv!👍
If you'd do a little checking that had been a very 'normal' activity. Example for prior to WW2, the murder of the entire Romanov family available in 1917 Russia.

Always noticed how vindictive the French were after the war, more so than any of the other western allies. Ironic considering how they also collaborated more than any other western ally as well. Although i don't think that Hans Goebbels seemed like a particularly wonderful person, don't think he deserved to be left to die of his disease, especially considering the German commander who shot the resistance leaders was let off and only given a tiny prison sentence and even released early. It seems like Josef's brothers unfairly got the punishment that he was due
The U.S. assisted the German elite in getting many war-criminals released early from jail (even lifers) or getting them 'amnestied' post-1951. A great many killers got away with it (the same thing happened, with a similar timeline, in Japan). The powerful people who'd promoted Hitler and Tojo mostly got off very lightly. The Allied troops who'd hoped that their efforts and sacrifices would make a better world were betrayed.
The french were overcompensating for their terrible performance and for their collaboration with the germans which hurt their national pride. They also shaved, humiliated and beaten women who had collaborated with the germans and nearly 1/3 of french resistance reprisals were targeted against women. Really brave men...
I'm glad I found this gentleman's RUclips channel. We always got the big picture in our history classes and documentaries, but he drill down into details that are hard to find.

SuperEdge67 The French navy under Admiral de Grasse saved Washington ( with general Rochambaud on land making Washington change his plan to attack New York ) and instead fight at Yorktown for which the Admiral and the French general designed the pincer plan that enabled the birth of The United States.
@@ThePiratemachine That is correct. Thank you, French Navy...but the reasoning was that France saw an open door to do business with the Colonies. It was also protecting its territories in America. It didnt do it for "noble" reasons. It's not that they liked us, its that they hated Britain more. When France was falling to the Nazis in WW2, the French Navy vacillated the calls by the British to be escorted to Scapa Flow (British Naval base) so not to fall in Nazi hands. This caused the grim decision by Winston Churchill to sink their fleet. BTW, The USA ( with a little help from our Allies) liberated France from the cruel oppression of.the Nazis...so let's call it even.

Dr. Mark Felton. I'm in awe of your knowledge about WW2. Your insight can't be praised enough.
Your stories are more interesting than all other historians stories/explanations together!
Thank you so much for sharing all this with us!!
I gotta say, you can pack a whole lot into 10 minutes. Great stuff.
Dr Felton is the best historian channel on RUclips. His original history snippets are just so informative and revealing. I can see him getting a million subscribers soon at this rate.
Dr Felton presents things in a manner that forces us to say, "ah yes, now I see". Thanks for another eye-opener Mark!

No matter how many times I watch his videos I learn something new everytime. Love these videos.
Felton, the best war historian I have seen on RUclips. Outstanding as far as information is concerned
Dr Mark Felton... Always leaving us with greater knowledge of history that school skipped over.
Thank you, you´re really doing a fabulous job of public education on your channel!

A small part of me was hoping his name was Barry Goebbels and he lived in London as an art student or something.
I would not buy a used car from Barry Goebbels
Or the milkman at Wapping, or something like that.

As always, the best content there could be. I'm so glad that I've found this channel, so many unheard stories. I really appreciate your work.
Quandt heirs are still owners of BMW, true
There was good and evil on BOTH sides, but there were heroes on ALL sides.
good on the Nazi side...dont think so
Mark reminds me of my high school history teacher.
I hate nepotism and favoritism... its a scourge in the corporate world, and is currently a struggle I am dealing with in my career
@StrategicPrepper that is fine when you are playing favorites with good people. The problem is when incompetent people are propped up, and profits suffer as a result. I see where you are coming from though, if people can back up their talk with results then I could care less... the problem is when guys get into jobs they aren't qualified for because they happen to sit in a bar stool next to the boss every night after work
This was informative and shows the extensive research you undertake to bring us this. Bravo Dr. Felton.
How can he keep finding new things I did not know about from 80 years ago??!
Because he is a historian who does a lot of research.
Because he studied hard and then got a job as an academic where he works hard.
because this man is an expert and dedicates his life to researching this stuff?

As the intro music starts, I have to vote "Thumb up" :D Thanks for all the informations.
@Mahatma GandhiBecause my grandfather worked with Florian? No, family relationships are not established this way in Germany! ;)

Very cowardly to go after family of your dead enemy.
Yes the nazis never did such a thing.LOL
If you'd do a little checking that had been a very 'normal' activity. Example for prior to WW2, the murder of the entire Romanov family available in 1917 Russia.
Interesting, and revealing of history, as most of Mark Felton's work. Thanks.
Up until now, I was not aware of Joseph Göeble's brothers. Most pieces of history that I've read and films that I've watched about the nazi era and Dr. Göeble focus only on him, his wife, and his children. Thanks for sharing this new piece of history, at least for me.
This is an amazing channel. You answer and thoroughly research beyond the known history of main events. This is a perfect example as I have wondered about the collateral damage and involvement of peripheral relatives of heinous figures. Keep up the great work!

It's sad that a whole extended family has to pay a price for one or two members.
It's called karma
@@tuljan4419 Karma is a fictional concept that only rewards or punishes an individual for their own actions, not their family members.
The price they paid was their reward for taking part in that obscene madness.
I'm also or mostly thinking of the children.
yes, must have been be harsh to has that stigma, anyway, in latinoamerica they wouldnt have had much trouble setting up and living, much german refugees and even surviving nazi's moved there and carry on their lives.
I didn’t know that Goebbels have a brother.
He had two.Konrad and Hans, and two sisters,Maria and Elizabeth.
AND NOW THAT ITS KNOWN ZZZZZNOOR
Two! Who knew?
@@googane7755 Wait until you hear what the Russians and Germans did to women before there was even a war that had broken out ...

@@wernervoss6357 😂👍
