This was a very well polished game with a great attention to detail even down to dirt on wheels from driving around. Not to mention the different research branches to explore. This game is way better than some of those triple a games out there.
The vast majority of indie games are way better than the AAA games. The AAA gaming market is an utter wasteland of overproduced, under peformed, over monitized, under polished, under developed and overhyped garbage!
Well on a planet that isn't Earth it would be considered a luxury. So while you're trying to sound edgy and smart, you actually just sound dumb :) Well done.
this game is one of the learning by doing games. which is actually fun, because there is no annoying AI pop up who keeps telling you what to do. Yes, there was a time back there, where you have to learn by yourself while playing a game. And i love it.
2:36 “selecting Paradox Interactive goes about as well as you’d expect having a major interplanetary colonisation effort funded by a mid-sized Swedish video game publisher” 😂
I definitely think the rating needs to be bumped up after all the bug fixes, dlc, additions, and price drops. I just got the first colony edition (you get the game and all dlc) after trying it on Xbox game pass. It’s a great game and I give it a 9.5
Well I am a passionate strategy/city builder gamer and I think that anything above 5.5 for Surviving Mars is more than generous. That being said, I have no idea about CoD and its score, I don't play those kind of games.
Its honestly a good game. have 30 hours in it so far and i have been enjoying most of it. the only critical issue is the missing UI elements, such as stats, descriptions, and a colonist list. and also the fact you cant queue or select multiple drones/ they dont use the enviroment, ect. bugs, if you will
You realise different reviewer did COD WW2. People need to stop comparing IGN reviews since they aren't done with the same standards unless its the same reviewer
Well, I have not played many games like this, so for me the review was great :) They really should post two reviews of games like this, one for noobs like me, tested by a person who dont usually play these games. And then a hardcore city building nerd :)
I don't see how that's a problem? Are you only allowed to play (and review) this game if you've played a city builder before? A review is a description of someone's experience with a game. Different experiences is useful. Someone that hasn't played a city builder before would probably find the review of someone that hasn't played a city builder before either to be useful, since it would most likely touch upon things they themselves would run into.
While I have the PS4 version of this game, it is surprisingly addictive after, as you pointed out, you get the grasp of the game mechanics and how to keep your colony running (after many frustrating "failures to launch"). My current colony is just over a year old (in-game time). LOL! The first game to help me truly understand the evil laugh was Star Wars Empire At War, when I would play as the Galactic Empire. Surviving Mars is the second game to do so. In one previous playthrough, after I scored the trophy "What Is A Googol?"....making over $100B in funding and exports, I felt the Dark Side calling. Suddenly, I got a fit of laughter as I decided to go into evil Corporate Overlord mode and said to the screen: "My faithful workers, you have done it! You not only turned our red planetary neighbor into a thriving source of exports, but you have also made me *the richest man on the planet* ! For your many hours and days of hard work in accomplishing this goal, I now reward you with the next exploratory step...the journey into The Undiscovered Country! This will be a one-way trip, and telemetry returns are highly unlikely, in fact, scarce at best, but you will be remembered.... or at least, those few of you I actually deigned to meet with before beginning this grand venture of colonization, and personal profit! You will be remembered in spirit, if not in name! Farewell, and Vaya Con Dios!" (and then I started turning the domes off).
you dont need tutorial. you just have to read: maintaince required.something required. your strongest weapon is your brain. reading = power, Hafer. good luck
I really like this current revival of RTS-games. Especially with the mixed in survival aspect games like They are Billions, Northgard, the upcoming Frostpunk and right now Surviving Mars have. Not sure if Surviving Mars is for me, but I do hope more developers get back into classic RTS-games with an added twist. Still waiting for a spiritual successor to Rise&Fall with RTS gameplay & option of 3rd/1st-Person direct Unit control.
