I met you walking the beach this morning. We talked about the submarine heading out to sea. I lived on 78th St. and actually managed to "sort of" compete in one of the ECSC tournaments. A 'noreaster was blowing and back then we did not have our board hooked to our ankle on a bungie. Needless to say I did not place. Ann Marshall (RIP) was the pro at the the time. Very interesting history of those glorious days when the beach was a simpler place to live. Best to you and thank you.
I grew up in VA beach in the 1970s started surfing in 1980 I have a life long passion for surfing and am still surfing every chance I get stay stoked Frank live long and share your memories!
Thank you Frank... what a great history of the surf scene that shows the progression through the years and how folks like Bebe, you and the rest of the VAbeach crew were part of the evolution of this great passion we all share. Me? 69 and surfing year round in New England. I met Babes grandson 2 years ago, on a surf trip to NC.
I was 12 in 1962 when Pete Smith opened his shop ( Smith and Holland Surf Shop) on a Sunday, so my parents could buy my 9'2" Hobie surfboard. I surfed for about 6 years at the Steel Pier,(or in Nags Head NC), on Va. Beach 1st St., by Lighthouse Restaurant. Butch Bailey was the lifeguard, and there are many others were around then. Great memories! CL
Thank you so much! Can't believe that I did it. Had to use a lesson from an 11 year old young lady on youtube to get the sound working. RUclips is wonderful for young and me (old).
Thank you Frank for taking the time to put our history out there....thank you
So glad you enjoyed it!! Felt that the history that I had should be out there. RUclips is great for that
I’ve never been to Virginia and it’s so nice to listen to this… Hopefully I get to visit one day and maybe I’ll drop your name.. 😊Thank you! 🙏🏻
