I like the Quo guys, even if I'm only a casual Status Quo fan. They come across as grounded, humble, and in every way normal. It was apparently the period of mad cocaine excess in the early eighties, which I think gets exaggerated .. When these guys had to work, they worked. RIP Rick. Seems like an especially nice guy.
I remember 1982 well as it was the year Quo’s drum dept took a real nose dive, and with the worst drum sound ever (and drummer, and album) it was the only time I ever saw them live in Antrim. Never got to see Spud play live, and now he’s retired 😢 He was the guy that inspired me to become a drummer. When I heard the intro fill on 4500 times in 1973, I knew what I had to do! 50 years later and I still love his drumming from the Frantic Four era.
Paul Gambaccini was the interviewer I believe but I don't know what the show was. Do you know? I like Francis's comment on wanting to continue for another 20 years, 2 years before they did the End of the Road. Thank goodness it wasn't the end.
I remember this well, still have the vhs tape of it from that time.
❤
