M.POWER's revolutionary new Side By Side (SBS) means this diamond stone will last forever.
Compared to using a traditional double-sided 8” diamond stone, where you set up to use one side/grade, mount it in the stone holder, use it, clean it off, re-set it to the other grade, place it back into the stone holder and start again.
The SBS is also the first diamond stone fitted with 3 leather-topped magnetic protective covers with 2 different grades of leather - Firm and Soft.
Three-grade sharpening is followed by three-strop finishing. All without moving from the job.

Probably the most chilled and satisfying Skill builder video I’ve ever watched. My wife would shout down to the shed, “where are you” me “just sharpening my chisels, see you in a hour or so”

Excellent demo of chisel sharpening.
I think a system like that shown is long overdue. A good way to get and maintain very sharp edges, and I don’t think that’s particularly expensive for what you get.

Nice but... middle stone looks awkward. Really only need scary sharp with super smooth back for fine furniture
This product looks good but sharpening free hand is so hard. I use the veritas jig. You get the same results every time.

Thank you for testing with a real world scenario (end-grain) rather than the somewhat cliched slicing paper or trimming your arm hair !
Looks a decent enough set-up, whether it's worth £150 will come down to the quality and longevity of the stones ! Cheap ones are a tenner, best branded ones are £80+ each. you don't really need three strops, but that probably hasn't added much to the cost tbh.
Not one for the worksite, but perhaps a Sunday mindful moment in preparation for the new week ahead !
Look good but not sure you can get full use of the middle and carnt work out why they don't make it a triangle so you can use all three properly

I've only been a joiner for 40 years, but I've never heard of a chisel being called a blade.
If you move around the country and the world you will hear many terms.

Only critique I have with SBS (apart from the taste) is that you can't get all round it every angle. I feel the middle one I can't get in flat sideways on the long edge. Good for beginners though as it's all in one bag!

Chop one side off
Could argue you only need the coarse to establish flat then extra fine to remove burr for the back of a chisels. But totally if you want to sharpen a knife or scraper it wouldn't be possible for that middle one. Should of had one removable side by bolts really

Looks like they should include a thigh pad for wiping off excess oil/ wax so you can check the nib rather than you wiping it on your pants. *Question please* : would this be suitable for domestic kitchen knives ? If anyone knows, chuck in a reply. Thanks in advance
thanks for the question, no, it's not perfect for domestic knives because you can't access the central 600 grit plate, but we are launching a 2 stone version in the new year.

You shouldn't strop the back of the chisel
What happens to the edge if you do?
@suspicionofdeceit if you don't put pressure on it when stropping your wasting your time , and if you do put pressure on it you will end up putting a small chamfer on it that affects the straight cut performance of the chisel,
This video is for Chisels that are Struck with a mallet/hammer, "Bench" chisels, hence the 30 max degree angle, 20 degree for a softer angle, "Paring" hand guided chisels fyi ... for all the viewers, not mentioned in this video of course, it is a generic presentation and promotion of course.

Looks a bit gimmicky to me! Too many stages to it. I don't think there is anything wrong with a simple oil stone. Been around since Adam was a lad and still working to get nice sharp chisels. Why fix something that isn't broken!
What a faff. I'd lose the will to live long before going through 6 different grits. I strop carving tools but not chisels and planes. I can't see the point of honing on dead flat diamonds then rounding the edge over on pliable leather.
Don't buy it. Your problem is solved.
You'd have to pull a chisel across the strop 30000 times to round the edge. Think before you speak.
@@nowhereman112244 Oh I have thought about it and done it professionally for half a century. If you won't take my word for it have a look at some of Rob Cosman's vids on sharpening. He's been around a while too and has, I imagine, thought quite a bit before speaking on the subject. If you do have a look you'll see honing on only two stones, to 1600g in half a minute. You could do it too, but if you prefer to spend half your life rubbing away with six different grits I'm over the moon for you.
Seen a bit bickering about this, typical chippies why can't you be civilised like wot us brickies are don't have to go through all that fuss with a 4" bolster😂

@@gav2759 I started in the early 1970s working as a carpenter-joiner. Later on learned cabinet making. I did house framing , trim carpentry and built all the built in furniture, kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities. and installed everything. Was I the best of the best, Hell No. I never thought I knew everything, always trying to learn more. I'm retired now. Just wanted to give you a little of my history. If your complaint is too many strops in that kit, to each his own. When I was younger I practiced martial arts and followed Bruce Lee and seen all of his movies of course. He took what he could use and discarded the rest. I think the same applies to any skill. You start with 30 steps and by experience you discard things you find YOU don't need. You seem to be experienced. Let someone go through 3 diamond stones and follow with 3 strops. In time some may end up like you, some wont. Personally I used 1 diamond stone, 1000 or 1200 grit, depends what brand I had with me. And a strop with red rouge on it. I apologize for the length of my reply.
