I feel that in this day and age, where we're constantly surrounded by screens, and almost everything is about money... that we have lost touch in nature, and ourselves. Religions such as Wicca, and practicing witchcraft helps us stay in touch and cherish nature. And in doing so, helps us find ourselves. Personally, even reading books on Wicca and just learning more about it, makes me feel at ease. Almost peaceful, and grateful that there are still people out there who see that how we're living now, with all the hurry, and no time to really enjoy our lives, isn't the way. I feel like we humans are capable of so much more. x

I agree! I think one of the main reasons I am being drawn to Wicca (again after 15 years) is because I am feeling less connected to nature and my own body. I am disappearing into my phone and beholden to my 50 hour work week staring at a computer screen. There's this severance from nature, I and a lot of my friends feel. I've noticed I feel most spiritually connected and content when I'm hiking in the forest or out in nature, breathing in fresh air. It is this connection that has piqued my interest in Wicca and Paganism in general because these religions are more grounded in nature and our physical world than any other religion I have been exposed to.

Through out history it has been a roller coaster of being accepted or not. Seers, witches oracles where completely accepted for centuries. Then they went to being burned at the stake for even whispering the word, but in secret most of the royalty would have a private witch on hand LOL. In a very short period of time in the past century it has really returned. The early 1900's seances were the rage, but still kind of shunned. I have seen in the last few decades that people are not afraid to be their true self. I have so many people especially young girls ask me questions when they find out I am a practicing witch. Sooo many girls are wanting to learn and wanting to explore and it makes me what to research deeper and deeper so I can answer the questions of the younger generation. Blessed Be

I have recently discovered the pagan community on RUclips and I find it inspiring to see that so many are Millennials. I think Wicca became popular in the 70s when people were open to 'alternative' spirituality in a broad sense, and I think it was again popular during the 90s (when I was really young). I think it does relate to a growing interest in re-connecting with nature, which may or may not stem from a deeper environmental awareness

Hi Jen! Yes, I think it's great that so many millennials are discovering Wicca. Social media has definitely helped spread the word about Wicca and other spiritual practices. Taking an active roll in my beliefs and life is exactly what drew me to witchcraft. Its the constant learning and the admittance by mostly everyone who practices that they don't know everything and they are all researching new aspects of their craft. That and the connection to nature. I believe you hit that nail on the head that the more people who put out content about their craft, the more people will stumble upon it, do their own research and see how witchcraft could really benefit their lives.

There has always been "paganism", in Christianity! The bible is a VERY magickal book, from animal sacrifice, human sacrifice, dream interpretations, divinations, law of attraction, astronomy, astrology, etc... even going to Church on a Sunday is pagan! The gift of healing too! Christianity is the most magickal religion on Earth! It's simply hidden to the uniniates.

  • @tobitsuki

I see this sort of rise in the popularity of witchcraft to be cyclical. There was a "witch craze" in the late 90's, and authors like Silver Ravenwolf almost became a household name. Out of that time we got TV series like 'Charmed' and films like 'The Craft'. Then, interest in witchcraft waned. Now it's back again and, not to anyone's surprise, there's a bit of a fetishization of the 90's going on here and there as well. I think people will always be drawn to witchcraft, paganism, and other non-Abrahamic religions and spiritual paths. I think this specific rise that some of us are seeing, however, is just one of those cyclical things.
I agree that social media has been a game-changer. I see it all over Tumblr. Just as it was in the 90's, it seems a lot of this new interest has to do more with the aesthetics or "look" of witchcraft rather than the actual study and practice of it. It's cool to be a Witch, to have crystals and books and ritual tools around. It's kind of a safe way to style yourself in that hipster/boho aesthetic and to play off that style as being consistent with your beliefs rather than just wanting to look a certain way in order to feed your own vanity.
None of this bothers me. We all look for happiness and fulfillment in different places. If someone is drawn to witchcraft because they follow Psychara on Instagram and they love her look, then that's great. Whatever the reason. It gets people interested, in reading, studying, trying out something new, questioning their beliefs and assumptions about themselves and the world, being able to better understand other people, et cetera. If their interest falls away, as it tends to do, then that's fine too. Nature is all about birth, death, and rebirth; nothing lasts, everything is impermanent.

Nice video Scarlet! I think Deity, and the Earth itself has awakened a global consciousness... perhaps to defend itself. Religions and spiritual practices such as Buddhism and Paganism that have good stewardship of the Earth and global compassion as part of a spiritual practice is on the rise. We live in an age where the Earth itself is threatened and we are close to the point where we cannot turn back. Old systems such as traditional religions seem to have contributed to this situation and many are turning away from them. I also agree with everything that you have said here! Well done! Interacting with nature is a beautiful thing indeed!

This is going to sound messy. I think one reason people are moving away from organised religion is due to how closely tied it is with politics. I find that organised religion and politics both have the same agenda, and that agenda is control of the mind and body of human kind with only pretending to cater to the spirit aspects. With pagan type religions, the focus is the empowerment of the mind body and spirit equally. When a practice is focused on personal growth and not on rules made by others, the control over humankind goes away.
Another reason is I think people are sick of sweeping issues under the mat. There is so much to say, and I think a lot of it I can't even put into words.
I myself call myself a "Universal Spiritualist", what does that mean?? Im not even sure myself, it is there in my mind but I can't translate into words.

  • @Nil_Echo

Some other commenters have raised good points about media presence (shows about witches, etc) normalizing alt-spiritual practices, and the internet as way for people to connect and form communities. However, I think a big part of the modern resurgence is due to capitalism. Perhaps this is cynical on my part, but the neo-pagan/new-agers are a HUGE market, full of people willing to plop down large chunks of money on books, ritual tools, tarot decks, jewelry, etc. It's unfortunate, but we live in a society where spending money is seen as a form of self-actualization. While many pagan groups pay lip-service to anti-capitalist ideas, there are far more people that are happy being unknowingly exploited in their search for a distinct spirituality.

I definitely feel you on the loneliness part. Even before the COVID pandemic, I felt isolated due to my interest in the Craft. That was after one of my friends moved away and my coven split up. I was fortunate to have been introduced to the Craft through a group of friends. There's nothing quite like practicing in a group - even if it's just 1 other person. These days, I rely heavily on a Christian church for most of my social interaction. It's an LGBT-affirming, Universalist-type church, so I feel quite safe with them. I understand my path won't appeal to most people. Yet, one should never give up on finding some sort of spiritual or humanitarian community to join, even during a pandemic.

@@EliaSarsenLo I have found an online 'coven' that is very informative. It takes a lot to harness your own power. We as humans are not really use to this. We have given our power over to various messiahs and the like. It is very ingrained in us. The bible does have a lot of useful stuff, but a lot of it was taken from various spiritual practices, etc. Like another person wrote, even politics has turned to religion. This goes against everything America was founded on.

    • @EliaSarsenLo
      @EliaSarsenLo 4 года назад

@@ursamahan-worlds5726 you have lots of brilliant insights! Giving oneself over to some sort of messiah or guru could definitely stunt spiritual growth. I'm slowly discovering my own inner power during all this quarantine. It requires lots hiking, meditation, and drumming. I've found that calling the directions through drumming is more conducive to my inner power than lighting quarter candles. I've also stopped invoking the many Gods and Goddesses commonly invoked among Neo-pagans. Since I'm transgender, it feels wrong for me to worship cis-gender Gods and Goddesses who might be hostile to my existence. If cis-gender (non-transgender) people want to worship the old Gods and Goddesses, then that's what's right for them. In this manner, my transgender politics impacts my religion. I'm more comfortable invoking a Unitary, All-Loving, Perfect Spirit. Even if such a Spirit does not exist, "They" help me feel loved and empowered. Everything and everyone else in all religions I've studied, including Neo-pagan, cause me to feel rejected and disempowered. Perhaps, this would make me a "monotheistic pagan"? Or maybe I'm a "Christian witch"? Yet, I love dancing and drumming so much that my worship resembles that of the Sufis from Islamic mysticism. Again, my personal path is probably not the right one for most people, and that's OK. Thank you for your feedback and encouragement!

One of the the topics that has been kicked around in some of the organizations is the disparity between survey results and what we see in real life. According to several surveys, the NeoPagan population has gone from slightly less than 1% to slightly more than 1% of the US population since 1995. What we see on the street is that numbers are possibly ten times larger than they were in that same time period. If one looks at the official numbers, NeoPagans are an extreme minority. Some of us doubt this is true. I am quite certain it is not. As for why the growth? In business, if your product sucks, people find something different. In life, if a religion doesn't fit. People find one that does. Notes: NeoPagan as used in context refers to Witchcraft-Wicca-Paganism.

Christians talk so much shit about Satan and Demons. But really where do you get your bullshit from? Is there a Gospel of Satan that y'all reference? I would like to know, but honestly I think it's just asinine assumptions rooted in fear ignorance and superstition, and heavily influenced by Church Lies and Hollywood bullshit.
The Truth about Demons that the Church doesn't teach about:
Demons of Magick: Three Practical Rituals for Working with The 72 Demons www.amazon.com/dp/B07122HYS3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5.RUCbS282H5B
Ok Christians, you want to prove god exists, here's how you do it.
Learn what the Ritual of Christian Worship consists of then compare that to the Ritual of Spirit Summoning and see how they are the same thing.
Then learn what the Tetragrammaton is, Donald Tyson has a Book called the Power of the Word. It's not in reference to the Word of god, what y'all believe to be the Bible, but it's actually God's real name, composed of the 4 Hebrew consonants YHVH.
Depending on the vowel and where it's placed will determine the pronunciation. Muhammad attempted to learn it, but failed that's why there are the 99 names of Allah, so Muhammad converted people thru the sword. In Jewish cults they use words like Adonai and Elohim, but there are many more. They couldn't figure it out either.
Why did Moses paint blood over the doorsteps of the Israelites to prevent the angel of death from slaughtering them? An all-knowing god that supposedly knows how many hairs are on each of our heads can't tell the difference between Israelites and Egyptians. Why didn't god do it, why an angel of death? Is god impotent or something?
      Simple, blood sorcery.
Monotheists give god too much credit of his super powers.
      What is the difference between,
      Divination and Prophecy?
      Prayer and Spellcasting?
      Worship and Spirit Summoning?
      A god and a Witch?
You can't tell, it's the same thing.
Which is why Moses created the 3rd Commandment, "Thou shalt not take the Lord, thy God's name in Vain".
The four-fold name of god, YHVH (known as the Tetragrammaton), in the hands of a trained Sorcerer, the real name of god could be summoned and he could have god do his bidding.
The 3rd Commandment was created to prevent the people from using his Sorcery against him.
But some did abuse the name of god, such as is found here in
      2 Kings 2:23-24
“And [Elisha] went up from there to Bethel. While he was on his way, young juveniles* came out from the city and mocked him, saying, ‘Go up, bald-head! Go up, bald-head!’ When he turned back and saw them, he cursed them in the name of YHWH. Then two female bears came out from the forest and mauled forty two of those juveniles.”
In the Ritual of Christian Worship, you'll notice the invocation of these names of power, (what Christian clergy use: Lord, God, Hosanna) then the Nicene/Apostle's Creed and the Lord's Prayer (not really needed, but used as a filler) then Petitions or Prayers are made, then the sacrifice (which in old times the use of actual blood was used from a sacrificial animal, but in today's Christian Worship the use of wine or grapejuice symbolically represented by the blood of Jesus) then concluding rites, which is usually more bullshit singing.
Once you learn what Spirit Evocation and the real name of God is, then you can summon your god and prove to everyone that he exists and find out where the fuck we all came from.
      A great website to learn
      Spirit Evocation from is
      www.becomealivinggod.com
Early Sorceries practiced by the Catholic Church:
The Sworn Book of Honorius: Liber Iuratus Honorii www.amazon.com/dp/B01H83IP12/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XdSUCb2F0XZ93
You'll also learn why your petty prayers never get answered, because you idiots have been doing it wrong this whole time.
Evidence that Christian Prayer actually doesn't work:
      www.scientificamerican.com/article/no-prayer-prescription/
All these Cancer patients that have died horrible deaths could have been saved had you done a little research into where your death cult came from and how and why Church Service is done.
      Seek, Ask, Knock, Goddamn!
You can't find this shit out by asking the priests, pastors, or preachers. Most of these idiots don't know, having been indoctrinated at a young age they simply believe because their cult feels good for their social interactions. Even if they did know, they're not going to tell anyone because that would be a threat to their system of control they have over y'all.
      Example:
      When the Church needs money,
      they request from their believers.
But when the Believers need something, the Church tells them to pray to god.
Jesus says have Faith, but when you break down what he's saying about how to do miracles it's actually Evocation, which requires a mind to be concentrated in visualization, in other words meditation. Jesus asked his disciples if they could sit with him for an hour. These faithless and dumbshit disciples could not.
Their asinine assumptions about who and what Jesus was and did became the foundation of Christian beliefs. Because what they wrote, and the Belief that the Bible is the Word of God, you Christians believe their bullshit.
In John 1:1, where does it say that the Bible is the Word of God? It doesn't. So investigate what I have written and prove your god's existence. Unless you're a lazy fat fuck that doesn't give a shit, then you can argue your bullshit and never get anywhere with experienced Atheists.
