Aw, Windows 10 stopped working before you could try running the Disk Defragmenter and other programs. I wonder if that error dialog box would still appear in Windows 10, seeing how it mentions "programs" and the Control Panel, two things Microsoft would rather want people to forget about. (Apps and Settings app respectively.)
Seeing that you skipped Windows 8.0 and 8.1, and moved on to the updated 8.1, reminds me of an agency I'm currently a client of, they have 2 or 3 laptops (ThinkPad T450 with the crappy base WXGA display) that they lend to clients for certain tasks and/or if they use a desktop at home, the one I could borrow (because most of the tasks required that I use their PCs) ran Windows 10 1607, with some networking issues that caused Office 2016 to fail to activate, and then, in the internship (of sorts) that I'm doing, I get to bring my own X250, while the other one doing it alongside me used a desktop, and so had to borrow another one that was running… Windows 8.1. Yeah.
