She said in S1E4 that _"being a cop is the first thing I've ever been serious about. And you were the second."_ So she was never serious about any relationship before (all 3 were reportedly "really bad"). It tracks that she would concentrate on her training, that she'd treat the relationship with Emmett with a lack of seriousness, and also was just looking for a companionship and a companion in Chris rather than a passionate or romantic relationship.

I'm worried about Fillion, only because of him I began to watch. He needs to leave the show urgently. His character is getting more and more boring. While not quite old yet, you need to look for a more interesting role.
I found this storyline cheap and distasteful. Dating someone while liking someone else is not fair to that person, especially when you drop them the moment your real crush pays attention to you. If they wanted to get these two together, they could have done it in a better way. Poor Chris.
"Dating someone while liking someone else is not fair to that person," Well yeah. But that's also only half the story. When both Lucy and Tim started dating Chris and Ashley respectively there was no "liking someone else" (meaning conscious romantic feelings for each other). That changed. That's why Lucy realized that she wasn't honest with herself about her feelings towards Chris and also realized it's not fair to Chris to stay in the relationship. Hence the correct decision to break up with him. What else do you want her to do or what do you think is the right thing to do in real life when you realize you started to develope intense feelings of romantic love for someone else??? Not breaking up and doubling down? That's fair to that person in your view? This may be distasteful to you, but it is human and therefore not cheap (writing) at all. I always liked that despite the goofyness of the series sometimes the show wasn't always 'clean' and the characters aren't perfect (except maybe Bailey LOL). Perfect example for me is when Lucy has this argument with her father in the hospital and they didn't resolve that conflict and still haven't.
@@Cliohna I don't want to spend too much time debating on a fictional character's motives but, to say she only realized her feelings afterwards would be incorrect. Did you watch the show?. She was weird with Ashley and tried to sabotage her. She was happy when they broke up. They kissed using undercover as an excuse. She came home and, if Chris wasn't bleeding out on her couch, what do you think would have happened if she had succeeded inviting him in. To use your argument, when she realized her feelings, she should've dumped Chris right away. That would have been the fair thing to do. She should not have strung the poor guy along (He thought they were going to move in together) and only dumped him when the person she actually liked asked her out. I on/off like "The Rookie". I mean sometimes the show feels more like a social commentary than anything made for entertainment. There are ways to critique societal issues while still being good tv, and "The Rookie" falls flat with that a lot. This show gets more and more cringe. At this point, it's more a fixation (curious about how much worse it can get), while still hoping for the occasional good episode, than anything I actually enjoy watching. And I can't abide storylines like this. It comes too close to cheating, heck it is cheating since she being undercover was just an excuse. Still, to each his own. Enjoy your ship.
@@charliebone8335 You totally misread my comment. What are you talking about ships? "to say she only realized her feelings afterwards would be incorrect." That's not what I said. At that point she didn't fully realize she was "stringing him along", she was struggling to come to terms with this whole situation. And that's normal even in real life. Rarely does someone flip a switch and immediately break up. Look. What you misread is, I was not arguing that this was totally morally correct behavior. I argued that the writers made her behave like a normal human being. Realizing something [in regards to feelings] almost always takes at least a little bit of time. No one figures things out immediately and acts on things immediately or rarely. This storyline was messy, but human. That's all I'm saying.
