I actually watched The Thing last night before putting this episode on. It stands the test of time for sure. I would like to add 4K 1982 version of The Cat People which does get a bit rude nudie at times but definitely an important film. It is also based on the 1942 Cat People which was the first horror film made your side of the trench. It was made by RKO and explores themes of sexuality etc, which is so central to this genre.

It's got that 80's neon / colorful lighting, great practical effects, vampires...I never see anyone talk about it, but it is a fun 80s vampire flick...it's as 80s as 80s gets.

Oddly I only have a single 4K in the horror genere in my collection and that's my most recently purchased copy of The Thing from Carpenter. You will have to let me know if In the Mouth of Madness ends up being worth the upgrade when you do finally get it. Despite it being my favorite film genere with plenty of DVD's and regular Blu-ray's that reflect this, I just haven't gotten anything else in that kind of format in that genere. You are the one who convinced me to pick up Night of the Creeps: Directors Cut on Blu-ray. I forgot how much I really liked that one until I watched it again. It's strange how that one doesn’t get the recognition it really deserves as a great homage to B horror films and their creators without being an actual remake. I have that Dawn of the Dead set on DVD that has all the cuts of that film.

IMO, for some reason high definition restoration and wide screen aspect ratios does not work with some movies eg The Efficiency Expert aka Spotswood. The restoration robs the feel and tone of the movie set in a factory in Australia in the 1970s. I wonder what John Carpenter's Dark Star would look like in 4K. Silent Running for that matter by Douglas Trumbull.
American Werewolf is spoiled on Blu Ray. All the puppeteering is now blatantly obvious. Some movies don't stand up to close scrutiny. It's still a fantastic film but better suited to lower resolution formats.
@@jimbrown2688 American Werewolf in Paris gets a bad rap but I love it.
