I love that moment when you turned blue. Before that point, Papyrus was a joke character where his traps failed miserably and he’s not too bright. Even the beginning of the fight felt like a joke fight because his supposed “attacks” takes zero effort to dodge. But the moment you turn blue and his attack actually hurts you, this “joke fight” transformed into a legitimate boss fight.
The way Papyrus battles has always been very intriguing to me. Almost every enemy in the game employs consistent and structured attack patterns, Sans being a good example. But Papyrus, on the otherhand- his patterns are constantly shifting and changing, combining different patterns in the same turn to confuse the enemy. He predicts what you'll do to confuse you. For example: using a very simple and consistent attack pattern, but then having a short, very different pattern at the end to catch you off guard. I think this is what makes him a genuinely challenging boss for first-time players
Yeah also the fact he isnt taking the fight seriusly notice how his hardest last attack is a súper cool REGULAR attack And Toby literally took out his special attack he is clearly holding back in the entire fight and Even undyne accepts he is very tough papyrus Even hints his special attack to be a gaster blaster on neutral if You abort genocide In the end of the fight where he is " tired " he doesnt Even sweat and as soon as You spare him he is energetic again Even if it had just been a Few seconds Hell he cared more about his popularity / date than the actual fight Also he can control his Magic to NEVER kill You not Even toriel who is almost as strong as asgore can't do Even she can accidentally kill You
Paparyus is actually overpowered, he holds back (Theory: More animated you are shows how much trying in the fight, sans doesnt move a lot but in fights he does cause he is trying, paparyus is really energetic but in fights he holds back so that why he isnt super animated.)
Also if you say you have no standards he yells "your meeting all my standards!" After a bit. (I'm too lazy to correct bad grammar, trust me I can do better then this)
it isn't brought up a lot when singing undertale's praises, but I really REALLY love the moment that is the "blue attack." the way the drums come in, the twist that this combat has more than you realize... it's just one of the incredibly well executed moments undertale has to offer. it legit has me coming back to watch this video any time I think about it, just to recapture that moment.

Just coming back here to say thank you, this video literally changed the course of my whole life. It was in my recommended videos. Because it was so funny I bought Undertale and played the game. Undertale made me want to start drawing again. I enrolled in animation school since drawing was fun again. I met my new boyfriend in school and he got me out of a unhappy relationship I was in. Out of all the fights in the Pacifist Run, I found Papyrus to actually be rather tough, Undyne doesn't like when she says he's pretty freaking Tough, Undynes fight can be tricky, but the Green soul is actually really easy to use, sometimes the Blue soul attacks Papyrus use can be tough to avoid, Muffet beats him in difficulty, but not in fun factoring, Papyrus is probably the best Normal fight imo normal meaning, non final boss fights, Like sans, Flowey, Asgore, or Asriel.
I just realized Papyrus is the easiest boss (except for some Genocide bosses) because he can't kill you no matter what, and being captured enough times makes him stop fighting you.

I found out something Both Sans and Papyrus' fight have the songs start after they use their strongest attack first. Sans: no music, just silence, until you realize that he dodges your attacks. Papyrus: his theme, until he says "you're blue now, that's my attack."
Actually, in the Sans fight, the music starts after you survive his first attack. The lack of battle music supports the little shock you feel as you are obliterated in an instant because you were expecting to attack first.

no,he is harmless. he may hurt you a little,but if you do kill him ur kinda doing harm to yourself,and ur also killing 3rd strongest characters brother, and Papyrus doesn't even kill you he locks you in the "bone zone" aka garage so no it's not weird to not kill Papyrus...
Can we just talk about the fact that if Papyrus was genuinely trying trying to kill you so he could get into the royal guard, this battle would be close to equivalent to Sans. If we were to fight Papyrus at the end of Genocide instead of Sans the battle would be way harder.
I adore the subversion of our expectations for this fight. At this point in the game, Undertale has been established as a game to have a lot of funny moments no matter on what's happening at the moment. Papyrus has already been established as someone to not be taken too seriously, and the beginning of the fight follows that as well. Just like the player, the music isn't very focus on the fight at hand, due to the attacks being very simple to dodge. The subversion starts when Papyrus mentions his "blue attack" which the game tricks us into thinking that the "blue attack" is a very simple attack to dodge by literally not having to move at all, which we have already learned at this point. The subversion finally explodes when the music goes silent. The plot twist that the "blue attack" is actually a new mechanic that we have to immediately have to adjust to is perfect, and the music follows that subversion by playing more focused and engaged version of the theme we just heard. A+ fight

I found out something
Both Sans and Papyrus' fight have the songs start after they use their strongest attack first.
Sans: no music, just silence, until you realize that he dodges your attacks.
Papyrus: his theme, until he says "you're blue now, that's my attack."
Actually, in the Sans fight, the music starts after you survive his first attack. The lack of battle music supports the little shock you feel as you are obliterated in an instant because you were expecting to attack first.

Can we just talk about the fact that if Papyrus was genuinely trying trying to kill you so he could get into the royal guard, this battle would be close to equivalent to Sans. If we were to fight Papyrus at the end of Genocide instead of Sans the battle would be way harder.

I like how it seems like a joke fight at first.
And then the drums kick in.
I adore the subversion of our expectations for this fight. At this point in the game, Undertale has been established as a game to have a lot of funny moments no matter on what's happening at the moment. Papyrus has already been established as someone to not be taken too seriously, and the beginning of the fight follows that as well. Just like the player, the music isn't very focus on the fight at hand, due to the attacks being very simple to dodge. The subversion starts when Papyrus mentions his "blue attack" which the game tricks us into thinking that the "blue attack" is a very simple attack to dodge by literally not having to move at all, which we have already learned at this point. The subversion finally explodes when the music goes silent. The plot twist that the "blue attack" is actually a new mechanic that we have to immediately have to adjust to is perfect, and the music follows that subversion by playing more focused and engaged version of the theme we just heard. A+ fight

Why doesn't he have animation tho? You can literally see his cape flying in the air but it doesn't move. Papyrus literally has the laziest battle in the entire game
