True & the question is how are the policticians allowing their natural habitat to be bulldozed for real estate developments & beef farming, these bush fires could well drive an already threatened species into its final extinction we are being told. So many of us are helping doing all we can but they are up against a wall with an ever dwindling food supply. That alone could be their end. Sigh, we all must do what we can. That's all we can do. : )
I agree, and the simple answer to this would be to take all the existing wildlife of Australia, like Noah's Ark, and spread them across protected sanctuaries across Australia, and the world to insure these Australian native species do not go extinct. Maybe a zoo type setting would be the only answer to maintaining there food and vet care, from revenue and donations. Also eucalyptus can be grown in the U.S as well.🤔😥🤠

This is almost as if your childhood teddy bear comes to life... I saw the Heartbreaking video of the Koala hurt and badly burned in the Wildfires and I couldn't stop thinking about how something so amazing and innocent can die such a horrible death. I literally couldn't sleep so I decided to find a video of a koala enjoying life. It helped. Thank you

But this tragedy has brought out a lot of goodness in ordinary people (forget about the federal government!). Thousands of people have expressed their sadness, donated time, goods, food, equipment, money, and other things to help those animals and people devastated... The tragedy is ongoing, although it may not be in the news any more... Recently some burned areas suffered flash-flooding, and starving animals drowned, because rescuers were not allowed in to help them. :'(

It never ceases to amaze me how wild animals respond to being loved. They may lose a life in the wild, but they seem to gain something from interaction with humans. I remember seeing a vid of a hippo that was adopted by a couple in Africa, she had a massage every night to heal some wounds and went to sleep on a bed. Even my snakes respond to being stroked. I even had a discus fish years ago that liked being stroked ! Keep us posted with Imogen's progress, she is one cute cookie !
Every living creature responds well to love, except psychopaths. Perhaps animals are higher up the evolutionary scale than are humans.
Interacting and caring for animals brings out "the human " in most people, except psychopaths.
Youknowwhat, call me crazy if you want but my plants grow faster and better if I pet their leafs and/or sing.
Sometimes (which I'll admit is out of loneliness) I'll walk past the window, rustle the long leafs of the Chlorophytum-plant and go; Ohhh hey, you doin' alright?' as I'm opening the window to check the weather.
Or I sit next to the window and fold laundry and sing. Or I rustle the leafs of the oak-tree that I'm trying to plant. Everyone said it wouldn't work, planting an oak-tree in a pot, but it's half a meter so far, it's going great. I whisper encouraging comments if I notice there's a leaf/mould-infection or when the wind is blowing and there's ice/snow/heavy rain or kids in the neighbourhood that like to break the brenches and damage the leafs.
And so far, he's made it. :)

I was in Australia in 1993 and I was lucky enough to be able to pet a Koala in a pet-zoo in Perth. I bought a fluffy stuffed Koala at the exit and it looks and feels very much like a real one. He is still here sitting in the living room and I watch him every day and now I am thinking of your misery with that fire.

Oh my. How do you stand it? It's cuteness overload. I am totally in love with these little darlins. We used to rescue and raise raccoons. Pretty much the same with the all hands on deck 24/7 haha. One night I awoke to our little Ernie industriously attempting to remove a good stud from my ear. With a locking back....ouch!! She played with our cats and our turtles and any children but she was fiercely protective and would not allow unknown adults near without inspecting them. And yes she growled at them. Just like the dog we couldn't have. I hope you are all still well and we're able to help many more little sweethearts. Thankyou and God bless!🐾😍🐨

Millions of yrs ago we were much further south, near Antarctica! Eucalyptus oil in our trees was antifreeze against the cold! Nor it’s so hot and fires burn too well with that oil! We will lose koalas and other species if we can’t stop fires before too much damage is done! Very sad!!

Janet Bryant I just noticed your comment. Yes, you are right. Very sad.. I have an idea that might seem nutty. Actually my Mom and I have several ideas that might help, but don't know who to speak to about it.
I don't know the cost of these fires, but a proactive solution would be to keep things from getting too dry. They could build a huge network of sprinkler systems. When you have no rain, have the sprinklers put out the proper amount. This would be a great way to combat this problem. Expensive, but cheaper in the long run than the cost to nature of the fires.
It could be a public works project!
