In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about the history of Kohinoor Diamond and the blue Sapphire ‘Star of India’. The first mention of Kohinoor in history is during the time of Mughal Emperor Babur. Later the diamond was lodged at the very top of the Peacock throne of Shah Jahan. 1739 Nader Shah looted Delhi and took Kohinoor with him to Persia. Sikh Maharaja Ranjeet Singh got hold on Kohinoor in 1813 and when British Won the Second Ango British War, the diamond gem travelled to Britain and became a part of crown jewel of Queen Victoria.
Another fabled gem of India was 'Star of India’, a Blue Star Sapphire that was first taken to Britain and then American Museum of natural History in New York. In 1964, Star of India was stolen during a heist and later recovered.
