    I do hope you see this note. The video is 3 years old.
    First, I want to say a big thank you. I only learned about the NanoVNA several months ago. Throughout my life, I’ve only used an SWR meter. I built and matched my first antenna at the age of 13 For CB radio.
    I’m almost 63 now and what a neat device this is. I’ve never been to school for electronics. I’ve always learned on my own through trial and error. I bought this device because of an antenna I was rebuilding that is 50 years old. Your teachings are phenomenal! I do believe if I had not found your site, I would not have bought this device because I would have been afraid of it.
    I am very much looking forward to watching all of your videos and learning vicariously through them!

    Best description of nano nano I’ve ever found. I particularly appreciated the paper at the end. That’s the best way to do that. Thanks very much for your video

      the old quote:
      "never eat anything bigger than your head"
      but really, only chew off small parts that you can understand, if you don't understand the part was too big

    EXCELLENT video, now I really understand how these little gadgets work ! I purchased 3 of them to play with and it's allot easier to carry than my 8712 lol

    Nice video and thanks. I followed what you said somewhat. I did not quite understand the S parameters, although I have read and own some directional couplers from MiniCircuits. Could you go into the 4 S paramters and what they are?

    Reminder: mHz is milli-Hertz, and MHz is mega-Hertz. Sorry to be so pedantic, otherwise a great video!

      yes I'm guilty. I can't remember when I ever needed to use milli Hertz.

    There is a V2 version that just became available on eBay from China. It goes up to 3.5 Ghz but at 3X the price ($150). I will wait until the price drops below $50 before buying one.

      nanorfe.com/nanovna-v2.html In this link you can see where to buy the "original NanoVNA v2". It's already down to $60. I can't confirm the information in the link, it's just something I found whilst googling around.

    How NanoVNA measure complex impedance? To my feeling its can can be done by measurements of amplitude and phase of the reflected signal on the bridge...

    • @IMSAIGuy
      @IMSAIGuy  5 лет назад

      yes you are correct.

      Note: The TLV320 (codec) always works with a "reference" (internally connected to the TLV320) and either the S11 or S21 ports also connected to the TLV320, so, known phase comparisons can be performed, after calibration constants have been determined by doing SOLT.

    The Si5351 is NOT a DDS, it's a multi sync fractional divider.

    • @IMSAIGuy
      @IMSAIGuy  5 лет назад

      That seems to be true. but it has a PLL also. not really familiar with that type of design

    • @uploadJ
      @uploadJ 4 года назад

      Ya - DDS is where you 'step' through a "PROM"/data table and create a sine (or any) waveshape through a look-up table output to a DAC .. PLL technique uses programmable divisor, a known reference freq and a phase/freq comparative, an error amp/charge pump and a VCO ..

    One thing that has made me wondering: How do they get rid of the base frequency and the unwanted harmonic when they use the harmonic as signal source? Obviously the measurement must be done using only one frequency. Does it have some switchable filter?

    • @IMSAIGuy
      @IMSAIGuy  5 лет назад

      I assume the data captured by the sound chip could have a software filter applied to it

    • @adilmalik7066
      @adilmalik7066 4 года назад

      The harmonics are useful. Infact how do you think a 300MHz clock gen chip measure upto 900MHz? It uses the third harmonic...

    IMSAI guy,
    Based on the last part of your video about reduced output from the Si5351A above 300MHz, I read that you could insert a cheap Chinese LNA. Have you considered that possibility and where you would include it in the schematic?

    • @IMSAIGuy
      @IMSAIGuy  4 года назад

      I have not looked at any modification of the design. I'm not sure what the limitations are. adding gain might not fix everything

    • @uploadJ
      @uploadJ 4 года назад

      That should be doable; perhaps also incorporate a high-pass filter, then calibrate using SOLT ...

    100 kHz is not audio under any circumstance; depending on how you want to look at it, it is ultrasonic if referenced to audio measurement techniques, or Very Low Frequency (VLF) if referenced to RF measurement techniques. Sorry, I just had to pick nits. Otherwise, good video.

      you need a spectrum analyzer. I can recommend the TinySA ULTRA model.

    Oh my gosh. Good explanation but the camera work is pretty bad, needs some tight editing and putting your hand between the camera and the drawing it just focuses on your hand.
