This is still by far the best tutorial and performance on the push. Doesn't matter if you're using the push 2 or 3, the principles are the same. This man inspired me a lot!
So many people ,complaining about the music in a DEMO. It's a fucking demostration not an art exhibition. You wanna listen to great innovative music? Go and make some by yourself
Interesting. I see what you mean about the layering. It wasn't till the end, though, when he started "jamming over the top" that I got a sense that you could really have fun with it. It seemed a very "technical" instrument up to that point. Still not sure the sounds grab me as much as some of the other synths I've heard (lacking some depth or something?) but it's an interesting little beast!
Mike Tschudi in this corner, push 1.0. In the other corner, 808-san, the true drum master. Prepare for battle, ye who challenge the mighty 808 champion!
What are the kits and sounds that he is using? I know "Idm Pluck" is part of the factory library, but what are the "chord" sounds and the drum kit sounds? Similarly, what is the effect rack that he use's towards the end of the video to do the live drum tweaking? Are these sounds, kits and effect racks from packs he's bought or has he put them together/programmed them himself?
Very cool! Thank you Mike & Nick. I would love to be that well versed with ANY gear - expert stuff thanks for an overview of your creative process. Much appreciated.
I have the original maschine and the workflow of the Pushlooks way better. Looks like it is worth the money to me. I'm thinking about picking one up tomorrow. I could get the maschine studio for about the same price but then I will have all the plug in issues that have plagued my NI experience over the past few years. Going to keep watching videos on it before I pull the trigger though.
This is awesome! It would be super helpful for us noobs if there was a video that broke down every aspect of how you made this with the push if you already havent 😊
For someone who is just into music making, this video suggests that with a little work, you can make a track just if you buy this Push machine. Thats very wrong, the process of creating is not the only process wich have to been done. Also arrangement and the most important mixdown have to been done. Especially mix down is a very long taking process. Furthermore, the use of packs is in my opinion something you dont want to do in the beginning of your music making trip. It will make your track wont stand out against the mass, its a little bit the same as only using presets for your VSTi. Learn some things about sampling, synthese, arranging and mix down first if you want to make a track sounding proper. Its not the funniest thing to do but eventually you will get the hand of it! And it will make your tracks a lot better. I like this Push though! Think i´m gonna buy it. I like the Maschine Studio also, but I think the Push is more suitable for my workflow and it´s a lot cheaper.
the most popular songs go off of standard sounds, its all in the making of music is what stands out and if ya have a sweet beat, layout and theme you can win.
There used to be a guy on public tv named Bob Ross. He would show you how to make a pretty painting in 30 or so minutes. I always thought that his whole approach cheapened the art. But now that I'm older I realize that he made a lot of people interested in painting that never would have tried. I'm sure he inspired a lot of horrible art but...who knows...maybe it was a spring board for someone of merit. I don't like a lot of electronic music..but this demo might inspre some folks how to work outside the boundaries of the genre...you see how easy it is...now go out there and make something challenging. I can see both sides of the argument a lot of you are making. Nonetheless...thanks for the demo.
The problem with this type of composition is you end up with one big multitracked loop with no real changes. Just bringing parts in and out all in the same key with the same progression is a very boring way to compose.
i agree with your comment , a lot of dancemusic is just one big longwinded 'intro' stretched for 7 mins , if the soundfield is then generated purely by vsti things really get uninteresting
You can actually, contrary to popular belief, compose in this style and make a dynamic and interesting composition. This is just a quick and easy way to lay down the basics. Nobody's saying you have to stop there. Plenty of great musicians use VST instruments to create interesting and inspiring music, y'all just don't wanna put in the effort to find them
Yeah, it's a great demo, but the problem with all these kind of 'live' demos is you know the guy has spent hours prepping the demo in advance.. Let's see his Ableton project *before* he started 'just jamming'
I can tell you from experience that won't be true. Mike taught me for 3 years and most of his sessions were structured in terms of content but improvised musically. As well as having great technical knowledge he's also a great musician. Even with a modest sound library it takes about a minute to put together some sound sources to create a track like this on Push, that's the whole point of the device.
Can someone please HELP??????????????? At 04.11 he places 4 fingers on the Push but it doesn't play a chord sound its plays like a riff/arp sequence..... how did he select this and what was the arp pattern?
Is it possible to achieve similar use with the Launchpads? Or APC's? Step sequencing and/or in-scale/highlighted scale keys use? Or is that only possible on the Push?
***** yes ive somewhat recently discovered this, I may have to invest in a mini, apparently live 9 lite will work with the script so maybe I could get some use out of it, while it certainly wouldn't be as great as the real thing, I'm sure some of the workflow carries over, and if nothing else it would be useful for triggering clips for arrangement and putting things down in a more free flowing way than I typically do
I'm 1 month into Ableton and blew my mind. Just selled some gear and got the Launchpad S + Launchpad95 script. Adding few midi controllers and is better than everything that i got on my life. Anyway push is really expensive, but you can afford the flow with an S + controllers with knobs and stuff.
Real quick dumb question... what's more conducive to live performance, launchpad pro or Push? I'm proficient in Ableton when it comes to studio production but I'm taking some stuff live for the first time and am clueless. I have to make a decision within the next 4 hours.
When you we recording live into Ableton on your computer, were the effects that you were using getting translated to envelopes that you can later alter or remove? Or do they become a permanent part of the track?
There doesn't seem like a way to 'go back in' really quickly. He misses the drop at the end. I think a simple button to remember a certain state of how things are, and a simple button the quickly return everything to that state, may help the user to bring drops in at the right time instead of fiddling through buttons where every second counts.
pretty cool! what about designing your own sounds on it though? that's a pretty big part of ableton. I did see him tweaking a preset which was encouraging.
sonicstate How does this guy play and simultaneously record clips onto live? Does he have suite version? I have live standard version but havent been able to record clips like he does on the video , any tips or advive would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the video aswell very informative
What clips are you talking about?...I've intro version, and I can do all he does in the video. Maybe i don't understand what you mean with clips. Can you be more specific? Nice video for newcomers.
Just got Ableton live 9 intro and Push. Wont to do this and need to know how? Please provide guidance.... true learner and eager to achieve..... Please advise/help
Does anyone know where in Ableton I can find the glitch fx he's using here. (I'm assuming it's included in the Live 9 Suite or they wouldn't use it in this advertisement). Thanks!
i know nothing about music production, but i want to learn very bad. Would this be good to buy and learn of this? or is this to advanced? Would this be great and with a couple of months of practicing, ill start to get it?
EmeraldGamingNewz i love abelton software and im noob when comes music, but making funky loops etc its no problem with this DAW i love it. i love how easy is to draw animations in loops etc
+Devin Frioud Have a Push 1 myself, and tried a Push 2 recently. The biggest difference is actually the feel of the pads. I was thinking it seemed like a pointless upgrade, but now i'm not so sure. If i was buying new, and didn't have the Push 1 already, i'd probably splash for a Push 2.
I got the Push pretty much down now, but I had a little problem while recording a song yesterday. I had it finished and I knew exactly where to put everything, but when I wanted to play my recording back to see if it was good, I couldn't hear anything. I also tried to play it in some media players, but absolutely nothing happened. And I am sure I pressed Record in the program itself. Did I do something wrong? I need help, please 0.O
I love this piece of hardware. I got it two days ago and I am already making a bunch of stuff. Not anything worth mentioning though because I am still learning it. I love it though and it has to be one of the best investments I have made so far.
Good stuff , but nobody can see exactly hoe you record automations or how you configure your vst's as macros to the knobs that would be not made in 10 minutes . complete tutorial for this? ??
When he creates tha baseline, how does he get this view? I am a rookie an i just played bass in the note modus, so i can´t see a running bar like it is at the drums? It´s pretty cool. can somebody tell me how i can get this vissualisation an the push? Thanx
First of all, you need to have a 9.1 version or higher. Once you do and you are in the instrument you want to play you just gotta hit the "Note" pad, next to the "Session" pad to trigger the note view. This allows you to set notes just like you would with a drum rack, allowing you to change the length, etc.
No...it is not that kind of music..I tryed to add more chords changes with that kind of music/beat and it simply doesn't work. What is nice though, it's when you switch to the next song (in a live situation for example), the change really mean something and is very effective. This kind of idea is used a lot in Trance music...but you have to be patient and endure usually 8-10 minutes of the same chord to really feel the effect. Listen to ThrillSeekers, the first 15-20 minutes of almost every albums contain that effect.

Almost a decade later and this demo is still awesome.
Man I love the way he operates it, its like he is making it love with his fingers!
Brilliant well done! Plus the Scots Lad managed not to swear for over 10 minutes! A World Record!
Jamie O'Callaghan I’m Scottish and totally agree. We have an unfortunate habit of swearing a lot!
@@whangie1 That's just pish!!!
Ah fuck.
FUCK!
Bastard, pure fucked it!
Look at the statisfaction on his face in the end. Every producer deserves that, don't stop until you have that.
" ...and then we'll come back in." loved it, nice set.
his sniffing and moves are a perfect match xD
6 years old, still this is the best demo on youtube about how to use the push.
9 years old)
This performance blows my mind every time I watch it. Fucking solid song that came out of that!
i loved his "give me money" hand
A very very nice demonstration - much neater than a lot of demos I've seen in recent times. Many thanks guys!!
So many people ,complaining about the music in a DEMO. It's a fucking demostration not an art exhibition. You wanna listen to great innovative music? Go and make some by yourself
Mate, you just showed me where I want to go next in life. I'm not even joking. Massively inspiring.
This is the first Push video that really makes me want one! Really excellent and can now see the creative potential.
Interesting. I see what you mean about the layering. It wasn't till the end, though, when he started "jamming over the top" that I got a sense that you could really have fun with it. i was thinking of buying one, and this 10 minutes convinced me to defo get one
Just love your interraction with that piece and the fun in creativity. Music is life.
Why is that 808 just literally sat there staring at him?
there should be much more 808s staring at us in every aspect of live!
Mike Tschudi in this corner, push 1.0. In the other corner, 808-san, the true drum master. Prepare for battle, ye who challenge the mighty 808 champion!
🤣

Gareth Thomas exactly this are my questions as well there should be a second part
Very cool! Thank you Mike & Nick. I would love to be that well versed with ANY gear - expert stuff thanks for an overview of your creative process. Much appreciated.
Mike Greig is a Boss an electronic music guru..my old teacher and mentor ..great guy
THIS IS HONESTLY THE GREATEST PREVIEW TO THE ABLETON PUSH! THANK YOU MIKE FOR INSPIRING ME8) Good vibes your way! Thank you thank you thank you!
very helpful video. It helps to have a Push for a while, get to know it, and then revisit this video.
If ther camera angle wasn't jumping around so much, we might actually be able to see what he's doing!
or if his hands weren't flapping so much...
Wehey! Mike used to teach me Ableton at uni.
You can save with this thing like 7hrs of your life just entering the sounds in your head into this push thing, amazing..
yeah but its not that cheap
I have the original maschine and the workflow of the Pushlooks way better. Looks like it is worth the money to me. I'm thinking about picking one up tomorrow. Tobias Prins well said.I take at least a day to make my own sound palettes before getting onto the push.
Tobias Prins Im sure he said he uses it for quickly getting ideas down
the most popular songs go off of standard sounds, its all in the making of music is what stands out and if ya have a sweet beat, layout and theme you can win.

Ok..good point.
You thought Bob Ross cheapened art? That's dark.
This man indeed is, the Paul ross of abelton.
ive seen neither side of that argument but can appreciate this as a standalone comment, nonetheless

No one is saying you have to stay in the same key? Although, if that is your criteria in order to enjoy music, you rule out a hell of a lot of it...
TjMoon91 It is one element, an important one, but just one.

Mind blown!! After getting Push all my other controllers are collecting dust.
Great demo. Sold!
what device is he macroing in that Glitchme and Itchy rack, at 6:05 ? some kind of beat repeat... but cant really tell.
Maybe "Glitch 2" vst ? I ask myself the same...
Can someone please HELP???????????????
At 04.11 he places 4 fingers on the Push but it doesn't play a chord sound its plays like a riff/arp sequence..... how did he select this and what was the arp pattern?
geeetube i think he either has an instrument rack with an arpeggiator or a rack with a grain delay on it
Just scooped up Push and Ableton from the WeHo Guitar Center. Stoked!
Is it possible to achieve similar use with the Launchpads? Or APC's? Step sequencing and/or in-scale/highlighted scale keys use? Or is that only possible on the Push?

This sounds great. Were the sounds used stock Ableton sounds? Or third party samples/vst instruments?
I also would like to know that. Someone?
I'm 1 month into Ableton and blew my mind. Just selled some gear and got the Launchpad S + Launchpad95 script. Adding few midi controllers and is better than everything that i got on my life. Anyway push is really expensive, but you can afford the flow with an S + controllers with knobs and stuff.

A meeting of flannelette minds
and bald heads :)
luap ekcol yeah we did it on the spur of the moment, no time to check wardrobes! But I have more hair....
When you we recording live into Ableton on your computer, were the effects that you were using getting translated to envelopes that you can later alter or remove? Or do they become a permanent part of the track?
The envelopes are fully editable.
still waiting for this track
Thanks for the demo. Also picked up some ideas for percussion, cool!
Was this song actually released?? can't find it anywhere!
There doesn't seem like a way to 'go back in' really quickly. He misses the drop at the end. I think a simple button to remember a certain state of how things are, and a simple button the quickly return everything to that state, may help the user to bring drops in at the right time instead of fiddling through buttons where every second counts.
You can set it up to fit your workflow in user mode. Can pretty much make any button or nob do what you want.
Hi didn't miss the drop. He went back in right on time. This unit is wicked. Anyone with half of a creative mind will do damage with it.
Im looking in getting a maschine, but would it be worth it if i get push?
pretty cool! what about designing your own sounds on it though? that's a pretty big part of ableton. I did see him tweaking a preset which was encouraging.
Totally f-ing brilliant. Love it!
Are those GlitchMe and Itchy effects that I can buy somewhere, or is it build into Push?
most likely abletons fx, push is just a controller
sonicstate How does this guy play and simultaneously record clips onto live? Does he have suite version? I have live standard version but havent been able to record clips like he does on the video , any tips or advive would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the video aswell very informative
What clips are you talking about?...I've intro version, and I can do all he does in the video. Maybe i don't understand what you mean with clips. Can you be more specific? Nice video for newcomers.
Any chance you guys could post the instruments/presets he was using for his bass and chords instruments??
nice work - please make a tutorial how you arranged this and mixed and mastered it for exporting to soundcloud only with the push
This was a ride... Loved it! Thanks, now i want a Push 😋
Make a loop in 10 minutes building everything using Ableton Operator: ruclips.net/user/my_videos_annotate?v=HmUB308NZnM
music made this way is expression in its rawest form. all done in the moment.
Awesome demonstration of the product.
Next time let us see an overhead view of the operation the entire time!
:)
amazing demo.....would love to know where i can get that ambient guitar sound
That's great, very intuitive once you've set it up right
Just got Ableton live 9 intro and Push. Wont to do this and need to know how? Please provide guidance.... true learner and eager to achieve..... Please advise/help
Sniff that! Sounds good :D
How to recreate the GlitchMe, Itchy and FLT UP effects he uses in the drum rack? Thanks!
be quick but not in a hurry
total control on Push,yeah...a good prepared track and nice session live..thank´s
Does anyone know where in Ableton I can find the glitch fx he's using here. (I'm assuming it's included in the Live 9 Suite or they wouldn't use it in this advertisement). Thanks!
Fantastik indeed! :D great performance, and great hardware!
I have not learned a thing, except this guy can push buttons really fast.
i know nothing about music production, but i want to learn very bad. Would this be good to buy and learn of this? or is this to advanced? Would this be great and with a couple of months of practicing, ill start to get it?
EmeraldGamingNewz I recommend starting with a DAW called audiotool. It's free and everything runs in the browser.
www.audiotool.com/
EmeraldGamingNewz i love abelton software and im noob when comes music, but making funky loops etc its no problem with this DAW i love it.
i love how easy is to draw animations in loops etc
Was totally debating on whether to get a minisynth of push. Going to get push.
Push 2 is a beasttttrr
+OG Jawdinz twice the price though...399 for regular push
+ALEXANDERS LEGION yeah man I'm not gonna spend twice as much for a color screen
I was wondering how far can this go in Cubase or other DAWs? I supposed Maschine was created to fill in the void for the other daws?
this was so great!
Really nice sounding dub and a great demo. Remindered me of a Vince Watson track.
when you buy the push in a store do you have to buy the software or it comes with it?
You have to buy where I live or else buy push suite, costs about $800 more for standard push..
Great stuff Mike!
Why the hate? This is great!
Because nowadays everybody knows it better and hating is "cool". Pathetic shitkidz behind the screen!
Sniffing was part of the track ? Did he use a sniffing sample ?
I got the Push pretty much down now, but I had a little problem while recording a song yesterday. I had it finished and I knew exactly where to put everything, but when I wanted to play my recording back to see if it was good, I couldn't hear anything. I also tried to play it in some media players, but absolutely nothing happened. And I am sure I pressed Record in the program itself. Did I do something wrong? I need help, please 0.O
Thomas Janssen U have to export it first as a wav file. .als files are only recognized by Ableton
Awesome stuff. Push looks ace
Does Ableton push is good for creating melodies? to compare with piano :)
Nicely done, and also, you should sample yourself saying 'groove'. it is funky
Very good.
I love this piece of hardware. I got it two days ago and I am already making a bunch of stuff. Not anything worth mentioning though because I am still learning it. I love it though and it has to be one of the best investments I have made so far.
very impressed
Good stuff , but nobody can see exactly hoe you record automations or how you configure your vst's as macros to the knobs that would be not made in 10 minutes . complete tutorial for this? ??
I would like to know what does he have on nose :D
i think he loves a drugs.. ;)
No marching dust guys I promise, it was cold day and my damn nose was dribbling. But thanks for the comments, it really cheered me up! Nice One!
Jetson Blowfinger do you swear? :D :D
When he creates tha baseline, how does he get this view? I am a rookie an i just played bass in the note modus, so i can´t see a running bar like it is at the drums?
It´s pretty cool. can somebody tell me how i can get this vissualisation an the push?
Thanx
same question here.
First of all, you need to have a 9.1 version or higher. Once you do and you are in the instrument you want to play you just gotta hit the "Note" pad, next to the "Session" pad to trigger the note view. This allows you to set notes just like you would with a drum rack, allowing you to change the length, etc.
Excellent.
Nice groove
Can we change chords at some point, please? :p
Soo True! - The sweet tastes better after the sour!
I can't remember when it was the last time that I found an electronic device so sexy!
There was some time spent setting up the sounds for this demo prior to the quip minutes.
Legend has it this guy produced the beat for CoCo by OT Genesis
This is a great video thanks !
@sonicstate that track up on soundcloud?
Is it possible to download the track somewhere? Its fuckin awesome :-)
Well done.
I just got one; I wonder if i do need a soecific program to use it?
did you need any additional programs or anything else to use it or did it work as a stand alone system??
most irish DJ ever ^^good stuff man
Sounded Scottish to me...?
Brutal! Wow 2020 actual
