I once sat in the back seat of the B-1B. It was like sitting in the back seat of a police car, only with no windows to see out of, just a tiny 3 inch by 5 inch "day/night" indicator window on the side. I got claustrophobia almost immediately. The Navigator/WSO's on the B-1B have to have balls of steel to be able to sit there and perform their jobs.
One blasted down low, less than 500 feet ? with wings swept back, making huge wingtip vortices, directly over base housing on Anderson AFB, Guam. Part of an exercise . Freaking devastatingly loud and very impressive
They were nicknamed the Bone, because the first ones delivered were a bone white to better reflect the flash from a nuclear blast. Dates back to the B-1A.
I’ve thought about it a long time, and the bone must be the most elegantly designed aircraft, ever. Just a beautiful aircraft. It’s pretty from every angle, and I am torn, as I love the blackbird as much, but I think the lancer is just the best looking plane of all time.
This bird is out of Ellsworth, South Dakota. EL on the vertical tabilzer identifies it as such. I was stationed there for 4 years as Law Enforcement I either was in this aircraft or was around underneath it during the hundreds of exercises we had on Mid Shift. I sure do miss hearing these birds wake me up every morning as I also lived in base housing... !
I was thinking that. About them being in South Dakota. I live in Buffalo Wyoming. And can remember see them fly as I traveled through Rapid city. Miss those military planes.
I’ve never heard an aircraft this loud on any airfield ever. It’s not only earth shattering but it gets you right in the gut, the sound waves cascade on each other. It’s just next level.
I helped paint all 100 that Rockwell built back in the 80’s including the last white B-1A that was at Edwards AFB. I have been all over the B1 inside and out !!!
I remember feeling like my chest was going to implode when I was out by the flightline as one of these took off at full afterburner. That is one helluva loud, but beautiful bird.
One of the best videos on aircraft that I have seen on RUclips ever. You didn't put all that music into it, or hear people in the background talking. One of my best scenes was seeing it head on taking off in the other was taken off with Vegas in the background in the evening . Great job!!
AS a rookie designer I came on board as a draftsman on this aircraft. Working overtime on a Friday, then coming in on the following Monday to be told to pack up ALL OUR drawing to be part of the cancellation of the PROGRAM. Years later it was revived by President Reagan as the new iteration as the B1b. When I’d walk into the fuselage mock up and see this wicked creation because what is purpose was to destroy and kill. It appeared to be moving fast just sitting still. I was shocked to be in the presence of such a man made device. It was really created by those of North American Aviation, not the Corporate BIG FISH that but their label on it. -Stephen Skinner
As an airport employee for 12+ years the bone strikes me as a challenging plane to work around regarding noise. Engines even at idle has a penetrating hiss, and on top of that comes the APU
I was in Nam, on the U.s.s. ranger. Filled in for one of our crew. The job? When the RA5C Vigalante photo recon was hooked up to the catpult. And blash shield raised. In full after! Burner. Had to make sure what was known as the, " TURKEY FEATHERS" WERE FULLY OPEN. THAT SOUND? WAS A CRACKLE NOISE! I will never forget. Even with proper ear protection! It was, RATTLING!
We were in Kandahar Province on the enemy supply trail at 6500 ft and got ambushed so we dug in behind the boulders and requested air support. We were advised the A10's could not be on site for 30 minutes at best and my response was we would not last that long but we would hold in place. The next thing I heard was a strange voice telling us to dig in place and that THEIR mission had been canceled, but could deliver lots of gifts to buy us some time and it was COVER ears time! When that B1 arrived it was only five minutes after the call. Most of us were visible elevated off the sandy ground when that bomb run exploded right in front of our now covered faces and ears! IMPRESED DOES NOT EVEN BEGINE TO DISCRIBE THE AMAZING DISPLAY BY A SINGLE BI. I HAD TO SET UP STEAK DINNERS AT A BAR HANG OUT BACK NEAR THE BASE IN SOUTH DAKOTA FOR AFTER THEIR 30 HOUR RETURN WITH A NOW EMPTY BOMB RUN LOAD AS A HEARTFUL THANKS!
Thats the most beautiful piece of ugliness you will ever see , like the a10 warthog its design puts its purpose ahead of its looks so you end up with the most badass effective killing machine with a touch of grace about it, lancer is beautiful have to say,i could watch it take off and land all day long ,id love to see one take off for real just to hear those engines amazing engineering
The radar cross-section is more impacted by the general shape of the aircraft and the paint it has on it. The unique shape and the radar-absorbing paint are very good at making the B-1b look small.
5 months late but, supersonic tactical bomber is more precise term. Since it was designed as such, strategic B-1 was B-1As, not B-1B. Also strategic bombing is taken by B-52s and B-2s.
I've been into aviation literally my entire life and my parents took me to an airshow at Joint Base Lewis-McCord when I was very young and I saw one of these beauties. The pilot broke the sound barrier 100ft over us and let's just say my little 4yr old self wanted to leave right after that XD. Apparently the pilot got into a lot of trouble for that too.
I think the Blackbird and the B1 are among the most beautiful aircrafts ever build.

They are taught focus by being slapped with rubber chickens while they work.

Same thing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Best flyover EVER.

Or… you know B - ONE = BONE.
@@stellert69 you mean B + One = Bone
Also because being at its control while about to deliver a nuke gives you a boner.
Who could blame It? 🤣
I was stationed at Nellis with the F-111A's. This just never gets old.
B1 Lancer
This is probably the most beautiful bomber ever created.
Great footage.
Love to see the take offs and landings.
B 22
most beautiful plane ever made, in my opinion...
The B2 might be better looking
I concur, just beautiful.
@@kevinbaboolal4225 Obviously Sir' you have poor taste in airplanes. That B2 is hideous.
The most Beautiful aircraft to grace our skies. What a Magnificent Lady. The Bomber who thought it was a fighter.
The most beautifully designed/engineered modern(1970+} aircraft to fly. Just perfect in every way. If I could do it all over again....
After all these decades, still a master- piece in design to me!
They are a maintenance nightmare

I see what you are saying. I’m partial to the B58.

What a plane! It looks to be going 1000 mph just sitting on the runway! Awesome!

What a beautiful, magnificent bird! Graceful shape ... And it's a war machine.
I'm a pilot with lots of hours over the desert..the lancer is an amazing aircraft...
I've watched one at the air show
and you would not believe that something so big can come up so slowly and quietly.
that sunset take off though...Awesome!
That shot was so cool I had to watch it on my big tv!

I've seen some of them over South TX in low-level flights with their wings swept back. Awesome sight.

And most deadly!!

Most Beautiful Plane Ever Built!
The best friend of a Front line German Soldier in Afghanistan under Heavy Fire. Thanks for safing my ass down there
One of the most graceful planes, ever, this Lancer.
@Hammerschlägen M It can do some fighter jet maneuvers. It is quite amazing watching this huge bomber do aileron rolls.
As an airport employee for 12+ years the bone strikes me as a challenging plane to work around regarding noise. Engines even at idle has a penetrating hiss, and on top of that comes the APU
This bird outclassed the Blackbird! A Beauty! Beautifully deadly.
like the B2 sprit , this is and still are a magnificent plane

This is what I call beautiful. I find it hard to believe that it has 1m radar cross section because of engines.
The radar cross-section is more impacted by the general shape of the aircraft and the paint it has on it. The unique shape and the radar-absorbing paint are very good at making the B-1b look small.
It's amazing how clearly you can see the wingtip vortices in slow flight in this video!
It's a dead ringer for the Avro Aero.

Badass plane with Badass Videography. Crisp and superb job.
That landing gear best in it's class, USA quality❤
Used to love Marshaling them out and recovering them back in dyess AFB.
I'm glad to see that America still has at least one swing wing type aircraft still flying.

The angel of death.............................beautiful aircraft
Its a beauty
It does not have the scary, significant look of the B2 but this has got to be one of the best looking planes ever! Beats the Avro Vulcan!
the B - 1 is a very handsome aircraft in every respect .
They are old ladies for the United States Air Force but they all are deadly beautiful. This bomber it was designed back in the 80's and still sexy.
The B1B Lancer is a beautiful bomber, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the b21 raider.
NICE Video !!!
What a beautiful bird...USA!!!
