Really solid advice in this video.. Unless you require the terminal ballistics of rounds like the 338 Lapua delivered into a target downrange you're just throwing away money.. You can get the same trajectories using high capacity cases in 6.5 and 7mm loaded with any number of ELD type bullets from various Manufacturers and keep your handloading costs under or at $1 per round.. Most LRPS will have all their requirements satisfied with factory loaded 6.5CM .. That will easily get you out to 1000 and beyond. And got those of us east of the Mississippi, you'll be hard pressed to find an area or facility that lets you explore any distances beyond that..
Stumbled onto your channel but appreciate this aspect into the reality. Like everything else, compromise is where I land. Do I want a 375 Cheytac, 338 Sniptac, 338 Norma? Yes, but I’ve got kids, a Bronco money pit, and a 308 that I need to dial in, and others. Don’t at the present posses a bolt rifle, but when I pull the trigger it’ll probably be a 6.8 western, Winchester XPR, with a FFP Arken. That’s my compromise. My hope is to make it reach 1200 yards. Thanks again for the reminder 😊
Just bought a 338 Lapua Weatherby Accumark Mark V. I looked at the Savage as well, but it came down to the way the Weatherby felt in my hands, the ease in which it comes to my shoulder, etc... From past experience, Savage makes the most accurate "out of the box", non-boutique barrels. But something about that Weatherby was just too alluring to pass up. Looking for recommendations on a riser/ scope base with a 30 MoA cant. I am planning on a 100 yard zero with most range outings being in the 500 to 1000 yard range, but able to reach my eventual goal of the elusive 1 mile (1760 yard) shot.
I am in the process of "thinning the herd" of my current collection of over a dozen rifles down to 1 or 2 22lr, 1 or 2 AR-15 in .223/5.56, 1 in .308/7.62NATO, 1 in 338Lapua, & 1 in 375 H&H.
Yes sir my buddy's were like omg you bought a RPR 338 lapua magnum rifle. Then they asked how much is the ammo I said $100 for 20 rounds $5 a shot I then said good thing I have been hand loading for 20 years.
What can you get the (per round) price down to by handloading? What's the per unit cost of the cheapest high BC ELD projectiles available in that caliber.. Primers and propellants are the lowest cost components in reloading so Im fairly confident those come in well under .50 cents a round even with boutique propellants..
Simple reason one would spend so much more on the optic and the rifle is the fact that the rifle is ultimately a very simple machine. Diminishing returns come so much quicker on the rifle than they do with the optic. Lower priced optics are starting to catch up though if budget is a serious concern.
They arrive pretty quickly with optics as well.. A $500 Arken 6-24x has been shown by respected testers like TiborasaurusRex to have less than 1% tracking error and shooters on youtube are making LRP hits out to 1800 yards and beyond with these sub $1000 dollar optics.. If anything, affordable optics are advancing faster than the rifles.. The $500 dollar Target Turret scopes of today have demonstrably better tracking than a Leupold or Nightforce only a decade prior..
A lot lol if you don't reload. Basic rifle 1500-1700...then there are upgrades. Ammo is what gets ya. Good thing I love to reload! But we are here to help make it less painful and fun. Call us at 833-AIM-FIRE or 731-607-6527 24-7

Thanks for being honest didn’t disinterest me in this rifle at all. Already looked at the ammo prices and saw their over double the price of 50 bmg.
These Savage 338s and 300 prcs are such good looking rifles.
