Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my! Besides Red Rocks, this show had the highest demand for tickets on this tour, being Jerry’s 40th. The night before in Austin ended after midnight, so he already received a round of good wishes. This left a tight window to get to Ok City, where the show was to start at 4:00 PM, if I remember correctly. It was 105 degrees. Most of us, including the band drove straight through from Austin hoping to catch a few winks before the show. Not to be, just too hot. Whether is was the heat, I’m not sure, but the show started after a delay late in the day. Jer and the boys were still cooking in the sun and like us, looked worse for wear and they seemed wired jittery. I’ve always thought this was the event combined with his excesses that marked the start of Jerry’s health issues and decline. That said, this was a lovely venue, about 6000 capacity. You could roam around freely even down in front of the stage. And who could forget the four dollar gallon jugs of beer they were selling- drink fast, it won’t stay cold long.

A couple hundred people on a beautiful evening among the tall redwoods. Near Arcata, and Mckinleyville Calif. For myself, I miss Brett Myland and Jerry the most. Have to be thankful that one has experienced the Dead and the Jerry Band. 😊
